Sony XBR-52LX900 BL_ERR
by Nicktronic
Hi all, just curious if the BL_ERR signal is active high or low? TV has the 6 blink error code and I've changed the backlights as they tested questionable (4 strips tested - 203VDC, 203VDC, 203VDC and 175VDC). The new strips all tested at 175VDC. Now when I turn it on, it tries twice to come up and then the 6 blink code. During the this time the BL_ERR pin is high and drops low momentarily, then does it again on the 2nd try to boot (so Im assuming active low). The other thing is the backlight voltage ramps to ~280VDC from around ~160VDC and then back down as the TV tries to boot again. Does...

Corsair RM650 ATX, possibly struck by lightning
by Sam “Captain” W. C
Just starting out in electronics repair and teaching myself as I go.
I have here a Corsair RM650 ATX PSU, which I'm treating as a learning project that if successful may be used in my PC.
Fuse was blown, probable power surge from lightning, followed the circuit and found, a dead relay and all the diodes and resistors around the bridge rectifier shorted. Rectifier and MOSFETs seem fine on the LCR.
Also found these tiny diodes on the other side, a few shorted, the rest seem fine. But they're not all marked as Zener on the pcb. So I'm unsure what these should be replaced with....

Hisense 55H8F Emmc programming help
by EazyBone
I am extremely new to programming and dipping into this. I picked up a XGECU T48 Programmer and have the correct socket for EMMC.
I took the EMMC off a working main board with no problems and threw it into the programmer. I click analysis IC and it gives me a report (attached) of the current EMMC. Model H26M41204HPR

1) I manually found this chip(above model number) in the select IC section of the XGPRO 12.xx programmer software and it had a option for 4 bit and 1 bit. I chose 4... is this correct?

2) In the options section point number 2 operation says "30...

Testing motherboard VRM without CPU
by danny1ro
Hey guys, I'm new here and I'd like to say thanks for all the knowledge on this forum first of all.
I am learning electronics repair, been fixing GPUs and laptops mainly until now, and I'm slowly trying to fix desktop motherboards now.
I had a few successes until now, but I messed things up with one of my recent attempts, namely a Gigabyte H410M S2 with which I burned my test cpu.
I had identified a mosfet which was burned, removed it, cheched for shorts and I didn't find any.
When the new mosfet came, I put it on the board and checked for shorts again and didn't find any....

ASUS N550JK laptop reboots after 30 minute, BIOS extracted invalid...
by bschwand
Hi all,

as subject line says, I have a laptop that reboots after 30 minutes. Investigation leads me to believe that is due to intel ME as it happens everytime after 30 minute from boot, it just turns off, no overheating, nothing weird.
I found a lot of information about cleaning ME like this https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/guide-clean-dumped-intel-engine-cs-me-cs-txe-regions-with-data-initialization/31277 and this https://github.com/corna/me_cleaner
Anyway, first step is to dump the bios. I found the Winbond W25Q64FV chip on the motherboard, dumped...

Equipment Display Types
by Mark R
Most Displays I have worked with are of course LCD Or Blueish Fluorescent Types. I Have a Marantz PMD800 tuner with sort of a white display. The display area is a sealed rectangular shape in a Glass Case. Looks like some sort L.E.D. display only not your typical section number type. I picked up this Tuner cheap as the display is very Dim. In front of the circuit is a dull red Plastic lens.

The display is very week and hard to see. I've got my DC 5 Volts allover and also a DC 32 Volt that runs some other section. Power supply looks good front to back. Not familiar with this type...

Samsung WD80N645OOW died mid-cycle
by mrsith
Hi fellow lifesavers.

I have a Samsung washer-dryer WD80N645OOW which died mid-cycle. No response to anything, completely dead.

Checked the socket, the plug fuse, all good. Took it out to examine the boards.

There is a relay clicking on the mainboard. Upon applying power, I can see a diode flashing on inverter board, after a while a diode on main board lits up for a split second, then I can hear a relay clicking. This repeats a few times, then everything dies completely.

I've been trying to examine the main board, but it's a bit difficult becuse...

Unable to extract bios file from Lenovo bios exectuable
by survivalbloke
I'm trying to extract a flashable bios file(ch341a) from the lenovo bios executable download. I have tried the instructions from this site https://starkeblog.com/lenovo/uefi/2022/08/28/extracting-bios-image-from-lenovo-update-exe.html, which are not working. According to those instructions, after issuing the command
"innoextract 7wcn38ww.exe"
it should create an \app folder, inside which, I should find a newly created "7wcn38ww.exe" file. I should then be able to extract that using 7zip and find my .FD file.

The trouble I'm having is that...

MacBook A1706 Touch ID
by PITERPENY
They brought the MacBook after another service and the touch ID doesn’t work, and it’s not surprising because the cable is broken. How to get out of this situation so that the touch ID works? who did it? I’m still thinking about repairing the cable, but it’s not clear where the information is stored, on the cable or in the sensor itself?...

Vizio V585-J01 dancing lines and image doubling
by x_orange90_x
I got this tv yesterday and it shows a screen full of colored vertical bars and horizontal lines that move, change, and dance around. When the set is powered on there is a slight buzz from the tcon. I removed one ribbon at a time and this was the result:

Right side connected, left side disconnected = half image on right (somewhat distorted, see photo attached) white screen on left. NO buzzing from TCON

Left side connected, right side disconnected = right side black, left side white with distorted horizontal lines near top of screen. Buzzing from TCON

HP Elitebook 650 G9 Bios password reset needed
by ShadXo
Hi everyone,

I have a HP Elitebook 650 G9, where I made a dump.
I found on the internet that I need to edit the EC Bios. Something starting from Active till blank rows, which worked for a 840 G8 the guy was using, but didn't work for mine kept getting the 903-Computer Cover error.
It was worth a try and now i'm also stuck here after the 903 error it goes to the screen to enter the admin password.

I wonder if someone can help me with the edit of the dumps.
