I booted to a Linux environment and the problem is not present. To answer your question about what happens if you stop touching the touchpad/moving the mouse cursor, after a few seconds, the video will come back and appear normal - until you move the cursor again. I will have to check and see if Windows replaced my driver. Can't imagine it would have as the driver from intel was much newer, but who knows.... Windows...
**UPDATE** You nailed it. The video driver is back to the 2020 version, which is the old one....Last edited by survivalbloke; 05-08-2025, 02:32 PM.

HP ENVY HP 13-aq1013dx - screen flickering black if using touchpad or external mouse
HP ENVY HP 13-aq1013dx
SN: 8CG0213H8W
ProdID 3C311UA
This device came in due to the screen flickering if you use the touchpad or external mouse. It will flicker black when this occurs. If you use the touchscreen, the behavior does not appear. Also, if connected to external monitor, the external monitor is not affected by the flickering. I did a good amount of research on this, and concluded that it is due to the display driver. HP does not offer Windows 11 drivers for this model so I got the replacement drivers direct from Intel. I installed them and the problem...

Am I using the correct terminology?
This is a Lenovo Ideapad 3 15ITL05 SN: PF46W14C
Board: HS45A/HS55A NM-D461 Rev 1.0
device powers but no picture, blinking power button. Will continuously restart itself based on what I'm seeing on the power meter. I'm assuming the BIOS is messed up....

Thank you for the response! I did remove the WLAN adapter from the M.2 but the fault persists....

Lenovo Flex 5 14ITL05 - will only sleep if commanded to through start menu>power icon
This laptop refuses to sleep unless specifically commanded to sleep through Windows. If I close the lid, the screen does go dark just before the lid is closed, so it appears the hall sensor works. However, it will sit there, drawing 1.xx amps until the battery dies. If I command it to sleep, it drops down to normal sleeping current. If I have it sleeping with lid closed and I disconnect the power adapter, it will wake from sleep, even with the lid closed. I have updated the firmware, but still the fault persists. I've also verified power settings in Windows that the device is to sleep when the...Last edited by survivalbloke; 03-20-2025, 02:49 PM.

This is a Dell Latitude 5591, ST: B168QQ2, board# DDP80-LA-F712P Rev 1.0 (A00). I did quite a bit of searching because I'd really like to learn this skill for myself, for the future. I didn't find anything conclusive, though, so I was hoping one of the geniuses here could unlock this BIOS for me. I would so greatly appreciate it....

which solder board/adapter for my CH341a do I need to use a 25B256DYIG IC?
This is, I believe, the BIOS chip for this dell latitude 5591. It has a locked admin password on the BIOS, so I need to reflash, but I'm wondering which adapter I need to use with my CH341a. None of my board seem like the correct adapter.

HP ENVY 360 - no power, taking no current
HP ENVY x360
15-dr1072ms
SN 8CG0215FQ6
Prod 13Q17UA#ABA
Board# 448.0GB12.0011
This device came in as no power. It is taking 0a current. I noticed a little liquid damage to the LCD connector and cleaned that off. I have 19v at the input mosfets, and on the opposite side of the board, there are several (diodes?) which all have 19v. There is a cap there which has 19v on one side, but 6.5v on the other - how?
The only other live power rail I have found on the board, is 16V on one of the coils. There doesn't seem to be a 5V or 3.3V present. A couple...

MacBook Pro A2442, board 820-0298-A, no backlight
I'm working on a MacBook Pro A2442, board 820-0298-A. This device was liquid damaged and had no power. After I repaired the liquid damage, I find the device powers on and works with external video, but backlight is not working.
Anyway, I really want to improve my fault tracing skills, instead of having to rely on others to always tell me where to look and what to check. In this case, I have a question about navigating schematics. If I wanted to trace the backlight power circuit, how do I find where that circuit begins? If I search for "lcd" in the schamtic, it is listed...Last edited by survivalbloke; 11-21-2024, 11:52 AM.

Hey, supposing the instructions I listed in post#13 of this thread are correct, I did that but the device does the same thing. I power it up and the fan spins high, nothing else happening. Cooked board you think?...

OHHHH, so then, I would:
1. Open the original BIOS in a hex editor
2. Copy everything from 61BF00-63DF3F
3. Open new BIOS file
4. Paste that info into 61BF00-63DF3F
5. Save the BIOS file and flash to chip
Correct?...

but what does "@ 61BF00-63DF3F" mean? What are the instructions? I'm not experienced enough to understand, but I'll remember once I'm told....

I feel really stupid. Is that a repaired BIOS you've attached? I presume it is, so I'll go ahead and flash that, and thank you. I'm a bit confused on the second part. I've searched a bit and discovered DMI is the HP app to install the serial number, etc into the firmware, but what do you mean by "WINKEY @ 61BF00-63DF3F"? It's tough hanging with the big dogs on here lol....

Interesting, I searched for that on alldatasheets but it didn't pull up correctly. I think I found it up by the CPU. It's Winbond 25Q64. That must be it. I'll be back with the backup. Thank you SO much for the help....

Is it this one? This is the only other BIOS-looking chip on this side of the board. Perhaps it's on the bottom side?...
