ROG ally Z1 Extreme bios ok?
Hello,
I'm fighting with an rog ally that i bought broken and which will not start. I found that the ec chip was shorting out so i replaced it with a new and empty one, short's gone and values look good. unfortunately, the ec chip doesn't reprogramm itself although - according to experience from others I've checked with - it should rewrite itself. WHen i attach power, both ec-chip and bios get power supply. to dig further i decided to read bios, maybe there is some corruption going on in there. Bios chip is a Winbond 74m25jweiq, neoprogrammer/ch314b identifies it as W25Q256JW and reads it...

Thanks for the heads-up mcpisig123. I hadn't had a problem with soldering BGAs for ages but i took your advise serious. just desoldered, reballed and re-soldered the ec-chip but still no change of problem. Maybe i really am unlucky with the chip itself, that would be a bummer :-( I decided to check the bios, maybe it got faulty by the same fault that destroyed the original ec chip. I just read it and will ask the forum to check it as I have no clue what to look for when it comes to bios
keep you posted...

a small update: I ordered a new, pressumably empty EC chip. After desoldering the old one, the problem (1.8ohm short on a cap near ec chip and 3.3v ldo line only providing 2.7V) went away. so I'm pretty confident that the old ec chip was burnt and was the problem.
however, after soldering the new ec chip nothing happens. meter shows solid 20V with 0A current consumption. On the board, only the 3.3V ldo seems to be active, with a derived 1.8V for powering the Bios. Coils look fine ohms-wise, no suspicios shorts.
any ideas where to look next?

Asus ROG Ally - Super IO Chip replacement
Hello everyone,
anyone here who has experience with replacing the super IO chip of an ROG ally?
I have one on my bench which has a burnt super io (ITE 5125VG-192). On some devices the super-io downloads it's firmware from BIOS if it's empty. As i don't have a programmer for this chips i hope someone here has already changed the chip and can give me a hint if it's working with an empty chip if it needs external programming.
Thanks
Ongo

This Board has 6 six positions for resistors (RC110-RC115) that define the internal board id and, with it, the type and size of on-board memory, see picture attached. Three of those 6 positions are populated with a 10K resistor each.
Depending on the combination of the populated resistors, you define a board id. If you have a similar board you will have one of the first six combination from the list attached. I changed my combination to one of the two "reserved" states.
To be more precise you need to make sure that the positions RC110, RC112 and RC114 are populated with a...

Asus Rog Strix starts but no screen or other signs of life
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to repair this Asus ROG Strix notebook for a longer while now.
Mainboard is G531GW rev. r1.6
When attaching power notebook straight up turns on but no picture or similar signs of life. Voltages are all there (VCCCORE, VCCSA, NVVDD, 1.05V, 1.2V, 5V, 3V, 12V …. Only VCCGT is missing, but that is ok as far as I read), no obvious shorts on any rails. CPU gets hot quickly without heatsink, GPU gets moderately warm and PCH gets warm as well. EC should be good: power button responds to...3 Photos

Hi guys,
i need help with a possible corrupted bios.
I have an asus rog strix g531GV-AL022 which shows only black screen. As CPU/GPU get warm and keyboard animations work (and i don't have any shorts on the power rails) I suspect the bios to be corrupt.
I already dumped the original BIOS with CH314. I then tried reflashing with several versions, first the original from the website (.307-file which is 2KB bigger than the dump which didn't work). I then removed the encapsulation by opening the .307-file...

Surface go 2/3 - resistor values needed
I have a surface go 2/3 here which has problems with the battery showing/charging.
I played around with the resistors on the back of the battery connector but forgot to take good measurements beforehand.
can anyone help with the correct values of the attached resistors?
thanks ongo...

alexfts20, you my hero of the day. I had already looked at the memory configuration via resistors before, but as there was no option for deactiving the onboard memory, i didn't bother to dig any further. Now, with your feedback, I gave it a try and changed the config to one of the reserved ones (111) which actually disables the onboard modules :-)
Thanks a million

Lenovo E14 replaced ddr4 memory module resulting in no boot
I am still working on an Lenovo e14 AMD notebook with some problems. The laptop booted normally but had a ton of problems with the soldered ddr4 memory. I tried deactivating the memory via bios, but that didn't work.
As i have a matching donor here, I decided to change the module i suspect to be faulty and exchange it with one of the donors.
Did so, but now the laptop won't boot anymore.
Anyone here who already did that and can comfirn, that exchangeing one module alone would work? Or do I need to exchange all 4 of them to make it work?

I haven't worked any further on that thing, so i can provide any photos you need....

I don't have a EDM-040 board here, but after looking at the some google pics, measure around the IC top-right to the SB (CPU side up, USB/Hdmi-ports left). That should be the power supply of the SB

Desoldering the cap will change nothing.
If you have a short underneath the southbridge it's 99,9% a faulty southbridge.
Desolder sothbridge and check for shorts again. If short is gone, you have your fault

Check for shorts underneath the southbridge.
Also check for voltages underneath southbridge, those rails will come up when you hit the power button

Still doesn't work, but thanks for your effort.
one thing i noted: When i boot with original bios, after hitting the power button, the LEDs on Esc, F1, F4 and CAPS light up shortly, go off and a few seconds later LED on ESC and F1 light up, stay on and Bios information appear on the screen.
With the bioses posted so far, i only get black screen, no more LEDs or indicators compared to a "normal" behaviour.
ongo...
