by Arc717I am trying to downgrade my bios on my Alienware so I can undervolt & overclock my CPU, and overclock my ram. I need to get to bios 1.2.2 for this. Dell doesn't allow downgrades, and their bios file is an exe compiled in c++, so I can't decompile it easily. I am wondering if I can flash the bios manually using a usb flasher. I would like to know if this is possible, and if so, where the bios chip would be. I know flashers are pretty cheap and the bios chip is 8-pin. There are two of these chips only when I open the back panel of the laptop. I'm not sure if there are any on the other side of...05-17-2024, 03:34 PM

by jm1234Hi,
I'm troubleshooting SN board of Panasonic plasma TV and I'm curious about a component that looks like an optocoupler, it has 5 legs though. I tried to check between legs 1-2, but no diode junction there, it's open. So either that is not a diode there or it's burnt.
For future searches, the part num is B3PBE0000060, the label on the component says 9157 and N219.
Any idea?

by paoloxpHello everyone,
my old Panasonic plasma TH-42PX70E starts to show a reddish picture every time that it gets warm. Let's say about 15 mins after power on.
You can see an example on this other post:

Is there something specific to check on this model? A board that I could try to exchange, maybe?
Thank you all in advance!Hello everyone,

by abajorI'm about to take a journey into repairing this 3 Channel ICE amp. It's got a bunch of fun components I am not familiar with like Direct Stream Digital chips. It also has some onboard Digital Signal Processor which I haven't identified yet.
I am not familiar with ICE amp circuits other than they are a type of PWM amplifier so I'm assuming they require a ton of high frequency filtering on the output. I'm also assuming that the output of the DSD chips probably directly feed the ICE amp signal since DSD is also essentially PWM or creating an averaged AC signal using high frequency ~2MHz...-

by Nikan.eGreetings and salutations!
I have a device that uses an N32G455RE. Unfortunately, its flash got corrupted. I have a dump of a working chip.
How can I program a specific region of the flash or the whole flash without touching the RAM, option registers, etc.?
I do not have a J-Link debugger and won't buy one, as I am not rich.
I have flashed a Nucleo board with an ST-Link to a J-Link just to find out that the ST-J-Link only supports ST chips.
What would be the cheapest and easiest option to program the Nations chip's flash without touching registers etc.?...-

by FrozenHaxorHey, I'm repairing a board from liquid damaged laptop, managed to get 5V and 3.3V rails up, some passives were corroded away. Only problem right now is no reaction to power button, there is no PCH_PWR_EN signal, DPWROK_EC is 2.5V, +1.0VALW is missing. Replaced KBC with brand new one, reprogrammed. No change. Any ideas? Schematic and boardview are available, attached them at the bottom. Boardview file can be opened by "BoardViewer" software.
Please don't mind the damage near UC4, it was caused by liquid damage and there is battery connector on the other side,...2 PhotosYesterday, 11:10 AM -
by earwig_nickHello all,
I'm working on an Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-54) with motherboard EH5VF LA-501P with a short on the power rail.
I'm just learning board level diagnostic, but here is what I've found so far.
I injected 1.5v to one of the positive leads on the DC jack connector (PJP101) and read about 1.4a to ground.
I felt around for heat and found the MOSFET at PQB12 is rippin hot!
when i pulled the MOSFET from the board the short went away. In my mind it was a faulty MOSFET.
Ordered a replacement and got it installed only to find it gets very hot again and the short returns....Yesterday, 06:07 PM -

Here is the bypass solution for several Lenovo ECs.
This has worked on many ECs.
Only works if password is contained in EC
I succeeded on many models

by sewsulleGood afternoon,
I'd appreciate help diagnosing my A2442 that's only taking 5v and 0a
This was my personal laptop and I had closed it at the end of a class and opened it in the next class when it just didn't wake up from sleep (The battery was charged). I connected a charger later that night and it booted right up but touch ID stopped working. The next day it did the same thing but never turned back on when I plugged in a charger.
I though the touch ID issue was weird but I'm not sure if that info helps.
When this happened months ago I tried to diagnose...05-22-2024, 07:56 PM -
by AimbitI purchased some broken iPads (non-charging), trying to repair something a little trickier than retro consoles... I have all the necessary tools.
A1430 - Draws 930mA consistent, screen is black with red/empty battery icon, no charging symbol.
A1403 and A1416 - Draw 930mA, wait 3 seconds, dip to 0, repeat.
A1566 - Similar to the previous issue, it draws some power for a few seconds, then resets my ammeter, and repeats. Waiting for my lightning port tester to come to check the tristar.
Seeing as these are old, and likely have been dead for ages, is a battery...Yesterday, 06:36 PM -

by ScarfycakeHi all,
I sent my ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (H7600, 12th Gen Intel) to the local repair guys to have a very simple DC in port replaced. I sourced the part myself on accessoires-asus (french company) after struggling to find the right part in the UK. It looked completely the same to the installed part from what I can tell. Originally the only issue with the laptop was a bad / loose DC connection, and so the computer and battery acted completely normal aside from a very poor connection that would fail at certain angles. After the repair was completed I brought it home and used...5 Photos05-21-2024, 08:16 AM
