JBL Flip Essentials - Bluetooth not connecting after a fall - video of board
video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-xBu7m6SwE
Hi all. I was given this JBL Flip Essential speaker that 'fell from about 8 feet' and then the bluetooth would no longer function. It seems to power on normally and responds to button presses, but it will not showup on bluetooth for any device I try to connect to it.
The bluetooth daughter board has a 26mhz oscillator that I could not get to read the proper frequency so I tried replacing that to no avail. Thought maybe something was wrong with the bluetooth IC it's connected to, so I tried replacing that as...

JBL Flip Essentials - Bluetooth not connecting
hi all, first time repairing (attempting to repair) a bluetooth speaker. Main issue is that bluetooth devices don't seem to recognize it exists when the unit is set to search. It seems to enter search mode as the lights change when you press the bluetooth button, but it remains unseen. I've got it opened up, and im looking around the area that the antenna connects to, havent seen anything out of place or shorted, or anything of the like. User said he dropped it and it stopped working so presumably could be anything. I've gone over the board for missing components, checked legs are soldered on...

Right. Ok. Well I guess I’ll try swapping or maybe just reballing the ram and see what happens! This is mostly for fun/education at this point… Air 2 is pretty old at this point.
thanks...

any luck? Thanks
i thought it kind of strange that only the ram shoots up to 70+ and the board doesn’t even really power on. Seems like it’s triggering a safety to turn off with its power cycling....

added.
i checked around this area as best I could for shorts and didn't really come up with anything. Definitely some very low resistance spots, but they are >1ohm, not sure if that necessarily is short or not. I think ram areas are normally low resistance? Still kind of learning this stuff.
fyi the two capacitors at the bottom of the ram chip that look kind of black are just discolored from the black glue stuff they put on the chips, they measured fine.
thanks...

So I connected it to USB power and just had a look with a thermal cam... looks like the SDRAM is spiking up to nearly 70c immediately while everything else remains cool. So perhaps the SDRAM is bad. Swapping these seems like a major pain in the ass as it is surrounded by microscopic caps and is glued to the board with that gunk they use.

Apple iPad Air 2 (A1566) - Seems to be power cycling, no display, new battery/Tristar
Using an ammeter, original battery was only taking 90mA or so... then down to 0, up to 90mA, down to 0, etc, in a repeatable pattern. This iPad was very old, so first thing I did was swap the battery for a good one, and it came pre-charged. The old battery had negligible voltage.
Now the iPad go up to about 1.5-1.6amps charge, then it drops to 0 after a few seconds... rinse/repeat as before. I tried changing the Tristar chip to see if that would help (and also my first real BGA chip!) but it seems to make no difference. Where should I look next?
I should poke around the...

iPad Gen 3 - Plugged in, continuously beeps as though disconnecting/reconnecting
The actual port is clean, and it is taking a consistent 930 mA, no dips.
Just did a battery replacement, the iPad did not work before either -- plugging in previously did a charging loop but went up to 930mA and down to 0, cycling, but it wasn't beeping at all. That battery is VERY dead, measured something like 24mV or something. So perhaps my replacement battery just has enough charge to make the beep, and the actual problem persists. Could this be a PMIC issue? It is not a Tristar on these but rather an Apple branded IC I believe.
Not that I suspect this matters, but...

So… I hate that this worked, but on the A1430 iPad I tried this “trick” of basically running a hairdryer on the back of the iPad to heat it up and then it magically will charge…
It seems to have worked as it has now booted and has 23% battery. Going to let it go overnight and see where we land with that.
The theory, and this may be 100% made up is something about a sensor in the battery, and when heat is applied to it it allows a charge to start. No idea if that holds any water.

A few Gen 3 iPads with differing charging issues (A1403, A1430, A1416) & iPad Air 2 (A1566)
I purchased some broken iPads (non-charging), trying to repair something a little trickier than retro consoles... I have all the necessary tools.
A1430 - Draws 930mA consistent, screen is black with red/empty battery icon, no charging symbol.
A1403 and A1416 - Draw 930mA, wait 3 seconds, dip to 0, repeat.
A1566 - Similar to the previous issue, it draws some power for a few seconds, then resets my ammeter, and repeats. Waiting for my lightning port tester to come to check the tristar.
Seeing as these are old, and likely have been dead for ages, is a battery...

Xbox One Controller - Phantom stick activity (sticks completely uninstalled)
Hi All,
I bought some used Xbox one controllers "as is/untested" and they both have the same issue. The joysticks go wild for no reason while plugged in.
https://youtube.com/shorts/YTYtjUPkBX0?feature=share
I removed both joysticks assuming it was an issue with the sticks, but the video posted here is the activity of the sticks with no sticks installed! My only guess is one of the tiny IC's that reads the inputs is broken. There are two small ones near either joystick, and then one larger one. I found a replacement on Aliexpress for the...

Diagnosing Sega CD 2
Hey all,
Hopefully someone here knows about “vintage” game systems.
I have a Sega CD and it runs perfectly fine except for two specific things I've seen so far.
1. The boot menu music is distorted, that is the jingle that plays on the loading screen with no disc inserted. It seems that is it specifically the bass line of the jingle. It is fully distorted/scratchy sounding.
2. I've only come across this issue in Spider-Man so far. During any cutscene when dialogue is playing, the audio will intermittently skip, the same way every time....

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi all! I’m new here. Found out about the forum through the Learn Electronics YouTube channel, thought I’d give it a shot. I’m interested in repairing mostly old game consoles. Hoping to get some insight on here!
Thanks
