Instead of fixing this electronic device that has never been actually proven to work, just call a good exterminator and let them inspect your spider problem.
This might be good to learn about troubleshooting and repairing electronics, but that device probably will not solve your spider issue.

And I used to think that spiders are harmless (Black Widow and Tarantula aside)...
A few articles about the brown recluse said it's common in the Midwest and SE states. That puts me somewhere near the border more or less. I guess I'll just try to avoid spiders that look like it next time.
Spiders were always very common in the house where I grew up, so that's likely why I'm still indifferent to them, though.
There's also one spider in the basement that caught a mid-sized centipede - and those just look nasty. Of course if it's one of those spiders with big, hairy and round bodies, I won't keep it either (I still don't kill it though).
Worst bugs are roaches. If you have those don't count on some electronic gimmick-of-a-gizmo to get rid of them. Call an exterminator immediately. Same goes for termites.
I think centipedes are the nastiest insects I've ever seen. I hate those things.
We had a neverending supply of roaches in Florida. It was just a fact of life that they were rampant in that area. Never had many in other places we lived.
Ok - so what if it's snake oil? I sleep easier for having it.
I would like to point out that I don't have an infestation of spiders (or anything else) in the house at the moment. So getting the house fumigated would not really help. The device is supposed to stop the spiders coming in. That's all .
Anyway, back on topic. I have removed the zener diode now marked in yellow and red, and tested it on my DMM, on the diode setting, both ways. I get readings of 001 in both directions. So I think I may have found the culprit. (Tested another similar looking diode on the PCB and got 001 in one direction and 717 in t'other).
The question now is where can I get another diode? The lettering on it is "1N4740A" with "5T" underneath.
(Well, the lights come on, and the test button emitts a sound, whether it will work as a repeller has already been debated on here!)
Good job. If it fails again, use one with a higher power rating.

new members that are not forum literate. That been said when I was new to forums I myself dug up the grave of many topics and posts till I worked out why I was getting grilled
On this side topic of spiders I love them but the sad thing is now white tail and red backs are in my town and one of them are in my house somewhere I know this I had 2 bites in as many years they are nasty.

Tell that to the people who have been permanently scarred and disfigured from brown recluse bites....
true. infact I was almost in that group but some smart doctor decided to use anti-leperacy medicine on the bit when I got bit (when I was like 7). and and healed without a scratch
regular spiders are good, they do keep the more annoying bug populations down, but if you see a reculse or widow (saw tons of widows in mansfield). kill it
As a matter of fact ultrasonic waves ARE vibrations.
That's why they call them waves.
And if they could be 'heard' they would not be ultrasonic.
Those things DO work - somewhat.
When I lived in Washington State my house was out in the woods.
We had an annual 'spider bloom' with millions of them hatching all at once.
It was all through the woods, an exterminator wasn't going to accomplish a damned thing.
Lasted a week or two until the babies got done eating each other.
I could keep them out of the house but the garage was another story.
I used on of those things.
A few would come in so you'd see some but they wouldn't stay in for long. [They didn't get 'thick' in there anymore.]

I just throw any dangerous spiders I find out the window
I hit one in Florida with bug spray.
It was big enough to hear the thump when it hit the floor.
