Re: Will recapping an ASUS Xonar DG change sound quality?
I finally had the time to recap my ASUS Xonar DG sound card with the Panasonic FC capacitors I ordered:
I don't believe there was any perceivable change in sound quality after replacing the stock Lelon caps with the Panasonic FC caps, however I have peace of mind knowing it's more reliable now.

Re: Will recapping an ASUS Xonar DG change sound quality?
Thank you for all the responses to my question.
My primary purpose of replacing the Lelon caps with Panasonic caps was to improve the physical quality of my sound card, with Lelon being a known bad brand, however I was curious whether the Panasonic caps would have any other benefits.
I will report back on here when I receive all the Panasonic caps and perform the recap.

Will recapping an ASUS Xonar DG change sound quality?
Recently I purchased an inexpensive ASUS Xonar DG PCI sound card, and so far it works nicely, making my games and music sound much better than the VIA VT1708S onboard audio that I had been using for the past few years. However, the capacitors on it are cheap Taiwanese caps:
* Lelon RGA 100uF 16V 6.3x11mm (x3)
* Lelon RGA 47uF 25V 5x11mm (x3)
* Lelon RGA 22uF 16V 5x11mm (x4)
* Lelon RGA 3.3uF 50V 5x11mm (x6)
I have placed orders on eBay from different highly-rated sellers for these caps to replace the Lelon caps:
* Panasonic FC...Last edited by Newbie2; 10-18-2013, 04:46 PM.

Re: "POWER PC" ML915 350W power supply
Some pictures of this "POWER PC" ML915 power supply in its current form (sorry, they're not the best quality):
Slightly-blurry overhead shot of the overall PSU internals.
The two United Chemicon SMG 560uf 200V primary caps.
The transient filtering stage components I installed.
I replaced every single cap in this PSU with Japanese caps; the small Panasonic caps are visible in the area where the transformers are.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've got more news on this power supply.
I finally have a decent PC setup to install it in (after a year):

Re: Newer stuff that isn't better
Well let's hope the 2nd-generation "Piledriver" FX-series processors are a viable competitor to Intel's mid-range Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge offerings, just like how AMD's Phenom II was a good improvement over the original Phenom series....Last edited by Newbie2; 05-11-2012, 09:48 AM.

Re: Newer stuff that isn't better
I'd have to say AMD FX regarding this topic; despite the higher-end FX-8150 having "eight cores" (four Bulldozer modules), their single-threaded performance is abysmal, being beat sometimes by its predecessor (the Phenom II X6), as well as being left in the dust by both Intel's Core i5-2500K and i7-2600K.Last edited by Newbie2; 05-11-2012, 09:25 AM.

Re: Favourite Computer Components
CPUs: I currently am a fan of both AMD's Phenom II series and Intel's Core i5/i7 series processors... not too big of a fan on the latest AMD FX processors
Motherboards: I swear by ASUS, GIGABYTE, and MSI; motherboards like ECS and ASRock are junk
Graphics cards: Usually I use ATI/AMD Radeon based graphics cards, but will use NVIDIA-based cards if performance is good and the price is right
Sound cards: Integrated audio from motherboard is good enough for me

Re: Fake primary capacitors
And now with decently-built power supplies from respectable brands (FSP, Seasonic, Antec Basiq series, etc.) that are priced between $40-$60, I believe their is really no reason to purchase $20-$30 gutless wonders. It is worth spending the extra $20-$40 (or more even) on a quality power supply, than to have hundreds of dollars worth of computer parts up in smoke by a gutless wonder.

Re: Fake primary capacitors
This looks like a very good reason not to go all cheap and purchase some $30 "500W" power supply; they come equipped with components that don't live up to their ratings!

Re: Fake primary capacitors
I had some genuine United Chemicon SMG 560uf 200V general-purpose caps ordered from Digikey that were used to replace the KDC 560uf 200V caps in my POWER PC 350W power supply, and the UCC caps felt like they had some weight to them in my hand. The KDC caps are as light as paper....

Re: Fake primary capacitors
After seeing this thread, I decided to pull out my father's old BK Precision 875A tester and test a pair of cheap "KDC" 560uf 200V primary caps taken out of my brand-new generic "POWER PC" 350W power supply and BH 330uf 200V caps taken from my "Delta Power" 450W power supply when it was around a year old. This tester is still accurate, with random good 1000uf caps I tested were measured between 970uf and 1010uf.
The "KDC" caps claim to be 560uf in capacitance on the sleeve, but the tester says otherwise......Last edited by Newbie2; 03-19-2012, 07:32 PM.

Re: Yet another victim of Antec! Q about cap replacement or RMA
I've actually had good experiences with using Antec-branded power supplies, apart from the Fuhjyyu-laden CWT built units. Antec's High Current Gamer and High Current Pro lines of power supplies come with all Japanese capacitors (my HCG-400 is loaded with UCC caps), which is a step in the right direction.

Re: LGA775 CPU's...
LGA775 is going to be a thing of the past, just like Socket 478 when LGA775 first came out. LGA775 was still the socket of choice in budget builds up until around now with the Wolfdale Celerons and Pentiums, because the only budget CPU for the short-lived LGA1156 (one of the two sockets that was supposed to replace LGA775) was the Pentium G9650, which wasn't too popular.
Now that LGA1155 has some pretty potent Sandy Bridge Celerons and Pentiums that outperform the old budget Intel Wolfdale LGA775 processors, I believe that LGA1155 will soon take...Last edited by Newbie2; 03-01-2012, 04:05 PM.

Re: HP Pavilion A850Y ASUS PTGD1-LA
Yes, those Rubycon capacitors linked to that eBay page will work (Rubycon MBZ are excellent motherboard capacitors). Regarding the other Ltec capacitor, yes you should replace it as well, since that one Ltec capacitor failing already shows that they don't have much life left to them. You're going to be ordering multiple capacitors anyway, so why not replace it?...Last edited by Newbie2; 02-23-2012, 09:05 PM.

Antec Neo ECO 400C 400W 80 PLUS PSU recap
Hello fellow Badcaps.net forum members,
Today I successfully recapped my old power supply, which was an Antec Neo ECO 400C 400W ATX12V v2.3 power supply from my main PC. Even though the power supply was in perfect working condition and none of the Su'scon capacitors inside it had failed, I did not trust those cheap brown caps and thus replaced every Su'scon cap in it (even the small caps below 470uf) with some quality Japanese capacitors (a mixture of Panasonic, Rubycon, and Nichicon) I had remaining from other recaps and projects in the past. The primary capacitor in this PSU is...
