Re: Requesting Help Identifying tiny Aluminium electrolytic
yes 10uf 16v.
gp leaded parts or mlcc/tantalum work as replacements.
replaced probably 5000 of those in motorola spectra/astro spectra alone.

Re: The Hall of Shame - Badcaps Photo Montage
Motorola quantar repeater supplies burn up just like that.
And its leaking electrolyte that set it off.
I recap them on sight.
Just did one for a uhf p25 system i am putting on the air....

Re: UPS issue
Random noname chinese/vietnamese agms are good for no more than 2 years if you are lucky.
I pick good quality metal units and run with external truck batteries.
Hours of backup rather than minutes.

Re: Callins capacitor?
those are always shot in anything i see them in.
just had a zenith trans oceanic where 1 was so leaky it exploded when the customer put in a set of charged nicads.
i suspect that epoxy seal cracked with thermal cycling and they (mostly) dry out.
they are replace on sight 1st step of restoration.
they were junk within a few years when the radios were relatively new.

Re: Dell P2412h LED monitor shows pink tint in white screens
look at the light shining through the translucent parts of the panel back.
or through holes.
normally led backlights look like daylight fluorescents or 6500-8000k.
i had a 24" samsung with the connector broke off the strip that i repaired.
when i tested the strip i notices the color was about 5000k with a noticeable red spike.
but the monitor looked perfect when i reassembled it.
its far more common though to fade to a dim blue.
just fixed some off road led lightbars for a...

Re: Computer jobs that are like kicking yourself in nuts.
its the old vista "upgrade".
which consisted of digging xp drivers for stuff that supported it but was intentionally not supported by the mfr of the system.
no doubt a kickback scheme from micro$not.
7 WILL become the new xp!...

Re: Razer Naga Mouse Keys Working but no Movement
its likely a bad optical sensor.
with luck its just the led but many nowadays are integrated.
razer stuff tends to be cheaply built and unreliable so no surprise.
i just replaced switches on a 6 month old deathadder.
our group now avoids razer stuff like the plague.

Re: [emission only] vacuum tube tester safety
this set must have been missing its isolation hardware.
not unusual for these parts to have degraded in the last 70+ years and replaced with metal parts by someone who did not understand why the chassis mounts were made of "cheap" plastic or rubber.
or used a metal knob in place of a plastic one.
aa5 sets require a bit of caution when testing/repairing them....

Re: Cordless Soldering Iron - recommendations?
btw a iso-tip with a high drain 21700 li-ion and a tp4056 board works great.
i also replace bulb with a white led and resistor in the bulb base.
the yellow package high efficiency tips work best.
the standard tips overheat and glow if you hold it down.
so you cycle it.
18650,20700,ect work too. but must be at least 15a rated.
tesla model 3 cells do ok in the one i did recently.
they can be a trick to connect to the recessed aluminum + contact but the right flux and a good iron will allow you...

Re: Cordless Soldering Iron - recommendations?
you are wasting your time with cells at 0 v.
anything much below 2v are usually not much good.
0v cells also carry a risk of dendrite shorts.
but the good news is that these cells are usually in such poor condition that even if they are directly shorted they dont have the energy to hit thermal runaway.
i have stripped hundreds of laptop and medical packs for cells to build solar banks with.
and have about 500 medical packs waiting to be stripped.
i love these.
they are max 2 years old and few...

Re: LED Circuit Aluminum Base
looks like you have at least 1 led bad on each board.
i would replace all leds with ones from a major brand.
and this gives you the opportunity to select color temp and cri.
the issue is that 1 goes open and takes that module out.
this raises the current to the other 2 by 33%.
when the next one goes the remaining module is overdriven 3x.
and when it loses a led that led gets fried when it opens due to the driver raising voltage in its attempt to hold the current setpoint.
this would be the burnt one you see...

Re: I'm getting windows 10
i wont use 10 myself.
if i get a machine that cant run 7 or linux it gets sold.
that tends to be those craptastic convertible tablet things mainly.
when micro$oft was giving free 10 "upgrades" i figured it was not for the benefit of users!
