Just a 15V 1.5A Voltage regulator, that section is the charger circuit for the batteries.

Could I up the regulator to a larger output one to increase the output or would that tax the other hardware to much?

That small transformer on the PCB is not made to put out what you need which is 3A minimum + head room.

BTW, your 12VDC operating equipment to have, what is the Voltage range can they function, X~XX Volt?

everything except one piece is good to 14v and I have a 12v regulator wired in the power wire for it

and oh well back to the drawing board

ok thanks I will look do that I think I have a 6amp 12v adapter out in my workshop.

Now just for the sake of my curiosity and just to know if it was doable could I swap out the transformer and voltage regulators on the apc with larger output versions.

                    Thanks,

Re: help with a APC ups mod

Are you going to use the relay or Diodes for switching?
Please measure the DC Voltage right at the batteries terminal with the UPS plugged in, you do not even need to turn on the power switch because the charger is an always on.
                      From user manual:
The Back-UPS ES should charge for at least
16 hours to ensure sufficient runtime. The unit
is being charged whenever it is connected to
utility power, whether the unit is turned ON or
                      OFF
                      .
Then check your computer to see if you communicate with the unit.
The relay method is probably the best way with minimum power lost.
If you are going to use diode switching, the Wallwart will have to be around 15~16V range.

Re: help with a APC ups mod

I figured I would use the relay method.

now just for size of the new enclosure and less wires is there any reason I can't simply make a end and connect the wallwart to the 110v surge protecter outputs on the board.

                        Thanks,

Re: help with a APC ups mod

it would be so easy to pull that transformer and build a charger with a bridge,7815,and a diode or 2 to drop.
                          those units are trash.
i would suggest driving the inverter transformer from the ac line and using the primary as the lv side but these things are lousy too.run super hot since they are cheap.
its something to play with and learn from then recycle.

That little transformer on that board I have no idea how many secondary side windings it has, it has one for sure to run the batteries charger circuit, there may be another one to turn the controller for the USB, etc.

ok I am picking up another be350r tomorrow from a client that found out it was cheaper to buy a new ups then a battery locally. so if any one is game to help me out I want to make an attempt with it to pull the charging transformer and install a larger one. However I know very little about transformers so I am hoping someone may be willing to help me id the parts I should change out and the part I am really lost on is how do I know what pins/wires on a new transformer go where.

                                Thanks,

Take good clear pictures of the whole both sides of the board again, and then in 1/4 sections using good lights so we can clearly see the traces and the components.

I also see burnt trace on the bottom side around that transformer also.
