Re: help with a APC ups mod
nothing it will not even turn on without a connected battery I am assuming it has something todo with the blown TL780-15

Re: help with a APC ups mod
ok would it be possible to use something along the lines of what you posted earlier that but to use a relay to use an external charger instead of the built-in charger or would this cause the ups to be unable to detect the battery? the reason for this being I don't want to kill the builtin charger pulling to much current or my deep cycles by not charging them with enough current.
Thanks,
Yonu...

Re: help with a APC ups mod
Ok I have been going over the PCB and I have no idea on the regulator as they are all heatskinked and you can't read the labels

Re: help with a APC ups mod
first on the 350 I found the problem with the charging circuit apparently the TL780-15 blew out as it is only outputting 1.5volts.
now on the backups 400 do you happen to know what the charger can output as I have no interest in the inverter portion of the unit only the 12vdc side but I had to plow the charging circuit the first time I hook it up as I will be pulling roughly 3amps eventually 5amps,
Thanks,
Yonu

Re: help with a APC ups mod
it has a db9 I haven't hooked it up to see what data it will pass

Re: help with a APC ups mod
ok question I have a couple of old metal back-ups 400 that are fully working would I be better off attempting to mod one of them forgot I had them.
Thanks,
Yonu

Re: help with a APC ups mod
ok I am picking up another be350r tomorrow from a client that found out it was cheaper to buy a new ups then a battery locally. so if any one is game to help me out I want to make an attempt with it to pull the charging transformer and install a larger one. However I know very little about transformers so I am hoping someone may be willing to help me id the parts I should change out and the part I am really lost on is how do I know what pins/wires on a new transformer go where.
Thanks,
yonu

Re: help with a APC ups mod
I figured I would use the relay method.
now just for size of the new enclosure and less wires is there any reason I can't simply make a end and connect the wallwart to the 110v surge protecter outputs on the board.
Thanks,
Yonu...

Re: help with a APC ups mod
ok thanks I will look do that I think I have a 6amp 12v adapter out in my workshop.
Now just for the sake of my curiosity and just to know if it was doable could I swap out the transformer and voltage regulators on the apc with larger output versions.
Thanks,
Yonu

Re: help with a APC ups mod
everything except one piece is good to 14v and I have a 12v regulator wired in the power wire for it
and oh well back to the drawing board

Re: help with a APC ups mod
Could I up the regulator to a larger output one to increase the output or would that tax the other hardware to much?

Sure it is
6CM490E
TL780-15
