no, they are the ones that keep asking for a security smartcard or password to boot.

the intel chipset needs a heatsink, but they designed it wih the wifi card going over the chip before they realised it.
so they bodged it by sticking a sheet of thick ally foil over the chip - then fitting the wifi card.

the result is it lasts about as long as a european warranty, then the soldering fails.
you have to remove the wifi, and the foil.
then reflow the chip and bond a real heatsink to it.
obviously the space for the wifi is then gone.

What I really hate is the E series APUs. I have an ASUS laptop with an E-350 APU right next to me now which I am fixing for a customer. I can't believe anyone would put up with a PC this sluggish. Then again, the Intel Bay Trail based Celerons (N2806 for instance) aren't much better.
hey, i love my dell inspiron 1122 (m102z) i was silly enough in 2012 to buy a $900 pc based around an amd e-350, it did have a half-a-day battery life though (and still does). Honestly, they are good for a 11.6" notebook with a fast drive and a decent amount of ram, i only bought it as it was relatively light (if only i had known about lenovo x series back then).

I know the Nc6000's were plagued with max1986 chips of doom... I got a dead one to part many moons ago (I was lucky, it had a 1gb DDR module in it!)

          max1986 chips?
          what's that about?

the problem i know is with the main large intel bga.
i got a dead one with 4gig of ram and a 1.7ghz cpu for free btw just needed a drive.
          (and a reflow)

Some weird IC that was failure prone... and would cause a no-POST condition. A new chip would last only as long as the old one did too.

dit- it's the max1987 chip, not 1986. bad memory over here.

A netbook, maybe. But there's no excuse under the sun for using the E series in a full sized 15.6" laptop. You can easily fit a bigger chip in there, and, unless you really strip windows 7 back (like in the starter edition bundled with netbooks), or run XP, they are horribly slow.

Not the chips. The position in which they were fitted in. On the NC6000 motherboard, the MAX1987 controlling the CPU Vcore, is very very close to the edge of the board, and there's a screw right next to it. If you move the notebook a lot, the connections to the MAX1987 will break due to board flexing. It's a design flaw of this particular notebook.

Last month I had a NC6000 in for servicing with several issues (no sound/no touchpad/random no POST). The sound was due to a broken headphone jack, the touchpad ribbon had shorted out due to someone's negligence (could have actually been my own, last year when i cleaned it), and the no POST was the MAX1987.

All i did was redo the soldering on the MAX1987 and all was fine. And you know, it's around 9 years old. I'd say it held up fine.

                              Hi,

I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
                              • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
                              • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket
                              ...

I have a PlayStation 5 CH-1215A with a Disk drive not reading disks anymore. (accepting and ejecting very slowly.)
Knowing the PS5 has a married daughter board for the disk drive I made sure to use that and replace the rest of the disk tray as it* was owned previously by an indoor smoker.
Once the job was complete and put back everything together, I tried to insert a disk with no luck at all...
So, I checked voltage going from the ps5 to the daughter board and am only getting the 5V rail.
With that knowledge I preceded to check all the fuses for the 12v rail on the main...

I bought 6 second hands odd $5 at a flea market and I found that 2 odd(GCC-4521B,TS-H192) won't read any disk.
But I measured all ESR value of SMD capacitor which is located on the TS-H192's PCB and replaced two capacitor which has higher ESR value.
And To My joy, this TS-H192 odd finally recognized burned CD as well as pressed CD.😂
But there was no more good fortune for GCC-4521B..In order to dead GCC-4521B back to life, I replaced three capacitor which has higher ESR value and I rubbed silicon grease on the every glides.I even brushed lens with cotton swab which was soaked...

                              Hi

I've an Apple macbook A1707 with Hdd defect.

This product don't work with a normal Hard disk, but the hard disk it's a BGA component on the logic board.

                              My question is:
Can i exchange the hard disk, by desolder the bga Hard disk and replacing this?

Can i replace with a different one (es 500 gb instead of 250 gb)

This Macbook has T1 security check.

                              Thanks and best regards

                              Luca
