Possibly early-covid-pandemic-related QC slump! It's in the period where there's possibly an above-normal panel failure rate. Early-covid-pandemic, is suspected of being the worst for bad panels! Same for other components, where I suspect being indirectly related to early-pandemic, due to factories of supply-chain being disrupted....Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 01-15-2024, 06:04 PM.

Re: PCs aren't extinct! (version 2.0)
Well, even in summer of '21, I doubt it was even as reasonable as March of '22!
Even in late-March of '22, the prices were still higher than I liked!
That's when I got my Radeon RX 6600 XT and in July, 2022, my Radeon RX 6750 XT honker!...

1994 is indeed the "FDIV"-Pentium-bug-era!...

Re: LG TV recall re. bad X-class capacitors
21 years ago, that sure didn't help with my Deer DR-250-ATX!
A thunderstorm also killed the Crotched Mountain campus internet in July, 2001. The internet was down for easily roughly 1 week to possibly 2 weeks!
That was on top of random power outages due to the at least one of the campus generators, along with PSNH (Public Service of New Hampshire) at that time.
But most of the power troubles that were campus-generator-related, was mostly 2000 and maybe 2001, IIRC.

Re: Core 2 "gaming" build with SLI
Until I got rid of the MSI 845E Max, which honestly looked like a solid motherboard, which I was regularly using in 2007, the Northwood 2.4 @ 2.7 GHz was stable, as long as the air was really chilled! If not, if you had Windows 98 SE with Prime95 going, Prime95 would fail with an error box from Windows 98 SE, blaming Prime95.exe and a cascade of error boxes, was common, especially when 45+F outside and the sun shining.
(not a typo, I would definitely get an error at only 45 Fahrenheit for the outdoor temp, when cooling...Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 06-05-2023, 08:57 PM.

Re: Core 2 "gaming" build with SLI
At least it does better than my Q6600 that I have! My used Q6600 from early '08 is the meme of "Bus/Interconnect Error" "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" BSOD, which it gets stable for the most part, but only with very chilled air blowing on it, if I increase the FSB termination voltage to 1.35V, IIRC. Linpack is normally only good for core testing, so I didn't notice this until I ran Prime95 in blend mode.
It of course, also needed at least 1.39V for Vcore at only 3303 MHz. That's only 367 MHz FSB! ...Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 05-24-2023, 03:58 AM.

Re: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC wont post no debug lights
The B450-era motherboards seem prone to failure. In my case, what looks like bad MOSFETs.Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 05-19-2023, 07:35 PM.

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
Question: Did the Pentiums still had the "FDIV" bug? I thought that I got words that 120s and higher were OK, but don't know now. Looks like one that possibly squeaked by the "FDIV" bug. I know that 1996 and later chips are supposed to be fixed already.
Looks like the 1994 Pentiums definitely have the "FDIV" bug and not sure about the 1995 Pentiums. Looks like there were bad (with "FDIV" bug) Pentiums in 1995 and possibly fixed ones in 1995.
I bet there were both bad and good...Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 05-17-2023, 08:46 PM.

1995 for BIOS year=Pentium IIs didn't even exist in 1995 and it was when Pentium 100s were the buzz, LOL. ...

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
Was it from 2004 or 2005? Those seem more likely to go bad! Especially KZGs from those years....

Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1
My early socket 462 builds this reminds me of:
Via KT133 was really only a 100 MHz FSB chipset, so I needed a T-bird intended for 100 MHz FSB. You would be lucky to get 103 MHz FSB, LOL.
Stubborn me! I only had poopy PSUs before sometime in fall, 2003. Even when the Deer-based PSU that I got on July 1, 2003, was behaving a lot better than the past two PSUs!
I, for a short time, had a T-bird 1.3. (100x13.0 version) I broke it by accident.
RIP T-bird 1.3 GHz (July 5, 2002-October 13, 2002) (On October...Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 04-22-2023, 07:29 PM.

Re: Lumenia street light; LED power supply driver
Talking about ants, reminds me that my sister is dreading a bunch of tiny ants coming into our house!
In 2022, I already had to get rid of many ants in the other computer room, the same one where I had a motherboard failure already and it getting replaced with an X570 motherboard.

Re: 4 Blink Error Help: Sony Bravia KDL-65W850A
2014-built, which I suspect many don't do as well as the 2009-built one that my brother-in-law has.
He will be pissed, if his old Sony Bravia fails.Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 03-09-2023, 09:25 PM.

Re: failing hard drives after sitting for years...
Is the dew point regularly in the low 80s or very close to 80F?
I know that OTOH, a dew point of near 80F, is rare in Vermont and is also rare in a good chunk of New Hampshire.
IIRC, July, 2018 had an abnormally-high-dewpoint spell, it possibly hit 80F or was most likely 76F+! I remembered sweat pouring off of me when doing yard work, when "weed wacking", IIRC, LOL.
IIRC, 2006 was like that, too! And wouldn't be surprised if the case for 2011 as well. Those were soupy-wet...Last edited by RJARRRPCGP; 03-05-2023, 07:49 PM.
