okay, so i had a bit of a look, VR_ON (enables SoC VCC) is pulled low, seems to come from the embedded controller. however DDR_PWROK is at +1.35V, not sure what the go is to be honest. as i get DDR_PWROK but no VR_ON and no obvious damage on the PCB

This laptop has been pretty abused, no liquid damage, though practically every port is mangled beyond recognition, none of them are shorted iirc, probably should check better. Just trying to fix it in my spare time
My thought was the same, i've never seen Intel silicon fail, this is just behaving odd. Something did let a bit of smoke out once the 3v rail was connected, had a bit of a look but could not find any particularly ruined passive components. hey, i have a 15" inspiron with a bay trail SoC. it seems like the soc is bad as even in an S5 state the SoC gets extremely hot. i have 5VALW present and 3VALW, noticed the RTC circuit was shorted too and it seems to only go to the SoC (RTC not populated on this PCB). i do also get 1.35V for the dram if i press the power button. but no SoC_VCC
Just curious if anyone's seen bay trail SoC's die. if it were working correctly i'd at least expect it to keep cool when its not on.

I've found that you can get some genuine stuff off of ebay new, you just have to be very selective about the seller. Generally the ones with a bit of a brand going that put genuine in or oem in the title and description are the only ones who actually sell genuine bits...Leave a comment:

Its a possibility, it looks like i'm not actually getting a pwm signal for the FETs. Though looking at the boot order the igpu voltage should come on at the same time the cpu core power does. I get cpu core power but no igpu power. I'm leaning toward a failed mosfet driver or power management IC myself. Unless igpu power is not required for it to boot.Leave a comment:

I think what people are trying to say ratdude, is that you're using your money to build a computer that really isnt fit for the modern age. I mean sure it'll work, but theres no real garuntee that it will continue to work. Even most car guys just dont use all old parts. You should probably look at buying a new laptop that has some decent specs and try not to spend too much on well outdated equipment.

I've got to the stage where i get run_ok and some cpu power but the uncore power ok signal is not sent. Meaning the CPU does not initialise causing the 1 capslock flashLeave a comment:

hey guys, i need a schematic for a Quanta TE7 motherboard, the only ones i've seen are hidden behind a paywall. i was wondering if anyone here had a copy of it? i need it for a laptop that works fine but when left powered off for a while will refuse to turn back on until the battery is pulled and replaced.

Probably, tested the 2720qm in a toshiba board i had lying around, the cpu is perfectly fine, i think the pch could be the problem as the laptop went through something that fried the ac adaptor. Might need to inspect the ethernet NIC and a few other thingsLeave a comment:

I know its considered a cpu fault, but at this stage i've tried 3 different cpu's that work in other laptops. They all produce the same error

Hey everyone, its been a while.
I have a hp dv6, model 6027tx with an intel core i7 and dedicated graphics that has a slight problem.
When the system is plugged in and the power button pressed, it turns on and flashes the caps lock key once (backlight does not come on, no image) and then turns off. It will not repeat this until you unplug the power and plug it back in, i have tested it also with a core i3 i had lying around and no change.
It will occasionally turn on a second time without being unplugged and then immediately turn off.

asus n53j weird problem.
I have an asus n53j (first gen i5, nvidia gt425m) that initially would not turn on at all, and on the one occasion it did work it froze in bios after about 30 seconds. I had the random idea to solder a 470uF cap near the cpu as there were a large amount of blank spaces for capacitors and the system now boots reliably and is rather bullrtproof. However, if an intensive task is run for more than ~2 minutes, be it a game like skyrim or something like 3dmark or prime95, the laptop will randomly shut down and refuse to start for about 30 mins (as if something is cooling down) and then will work normally.... -

hey, i love my dell inspiron 1122 (m102z) i was silly enough in 2012 to buy a $900 pc based around an amd e-350, it did have a half-a-day battery life though (and still does). Honestly, they are good for a 11.6" notebook with a fast drive and a decent amount of ram, i only bought it as it was relatively light (if only i had known about lenovo x series back then)....Leave a comment:

I have an a1181 at the moment, do the fans spin up or anything when you plug it in, does the magsafe light go green and have you inspected the board for any obviously damaged components?
