My first ever PC build was a bit like that... AMD Duron 1.3GHz and I thought more paste was better.. wondered why the thing always ran hot...

HP did this in my old laptop. The thermal pad doesn't touch anything.
I added some crappy paste between the "heatsink" and the metal block on the right that cools an inductor. They did the same thing that they did here. There was a thermal pad next to that block that was not touching anything.Last edited by lti; 05-05-2014, 07:52 PM.
