Re: LG 32LX1D will not turn on

I assume when you want the 5v rail resistance measured, we're talking from ground to the 5v standby? From a ground pin, to standby I get a slow build up in resistance. It stops at 9.3k.

I didn't ask if AC or DC across gigantocap. I can't tell if it's before or after the rectifier. Anyway, I get 157DC. Nothing on AC.

Yeah, that's it. Measuremet looks good. I just wanted to make sure there isn't something that's shorted on the 5V standby supply, thus causing it to turn on and off like it does now.

Yeah, it's DC. AC across an electrolytic capacitor =

If the 157V DC is stable and not oscillating, then your problem is likely that standby start-up cap budm circled.

Awesome. Consider that guy replaced tonight.

And duh. Electrolytic Cap = DC. hurrr.

I used to be good at this stuff in High School. I just kinda strayed. Need to get back into it.

Thanks for the help. Stay tuned.

BOOYA! All fixed guys! I can't thank you enough! Free TV on Craigslist, some talented individuals, a tiny replacement part, and now my kids have a decent TV for their game room.

          Thanks so much again!

            Congrats on the fix!
            Feels good, doesn't it?
If you ever get random flaky problems with that TV again, I would suggest you also change the rest of the caps as SAMYOUNG and SAMWHA are not very reliable. But other than that, enjoy!

Yeah man. Pretty awesome. I fix monitors with blown caps a lot. But hunting down something like the good ole days - that's something special. I've got another TV somewhere around here. I'll start another thread for it.

              Thanks again!

You'll be surprised how common it is for them to go bad. And not just in TVs, but in almost all power supplies that use inferior caps. For this reason, I always keep a small pack of 50V 47 uF caps.

Glad to hear it was just the bad start up cap.

So I am pretty much in the same boat. I got a free tv off Craigslist and it won't start up. Not even a blink. So I checked the ceramic fuse by replacing it but nothing. So then I searched google and landed here. I got as far as removing all the covers but when I took a look at the 5vstby cap it had two. One is 47uF and the other, smaller one is 22uF. Any ideas as to whether I should change both? Thanks in advance. See attached photo.

Wouldn't hurt one single bit. The more of those SAMWHA and Sam Young capacitors you change, the better anyways.

I would say check the voltage on pin ST5.0V first. If you do NOT get 5V, then definitely replace both of those small caps. And if you get absolutely no voltage on ST5.0V (like not even 1V), then check the voltage on the big primary cap (see post #19). Also check resistance on ST5.0V rail (remove power first, as mentioned in post 19 again).

Just opened up GFs 32lx1d that had no power, no red led, nothing.

Googled the model number, and knew the 'badcaps' result was the one I wanted.

                            Had around .6~.9Vdc on ST5.0v.

Scavenged a 47uF 63v from something in the junk box, and the tv is back to health.

Sure is nice to have a resource like this on the web.

Yeah, the measured voltage across the wires on each capacitor Small holds 12v, then rapidly falls off. Large remains constant at less than .3v.

So i thought maybe lcd stripe is faulty, i removed the bottom cover, disconnected main battery, reset the cmos by disconnecting battery for 1 min, then slighty move the lcd stripe. Conncted power supply and tuned on my laptop, the lcd turn on, it started to load os, then it turn off, after a second it turn on, then after like 3 seconds turn off again, and so on. Removed power supply, waited...

                                            Hi all,

I am working on a sound processor, it tends to overheat so I fitted a fan inside. The fan is connected to the +15V of the PSU via a DC-DC converter based on the LM2596 to reduce the voltage to around 10.5V.

Unfortunately the analogue circuitry is picking up the noise from the fan in two ways:
                                            1. The fan is close to the analogue section, the motor itself gets into the outputs so I'll have to move it somewhere else
                                            2. Even with the fan running outside of the case, there is still some noise which is clearly going back to the processor via power line....

                                            To all the members here...

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.

So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But...

Onkyo TX-SR805 noise in one channel
                                            by MegaZAC
Surprisingly enough, this receiver doesn't have the DSP chip issue. The HDMI board does not get hot, and sound over HDMI works fine.

Regardless of the input, the right channel has noise that is clearly noticeable even on average volume level. The only cases when there's no noise is when VCR input is selected (some tracks on the board are damaged, maybe that's why), or if HDMI input is selected but nothing plugged into it. In all other cases, even when no input is connected I still have the noise.

There's some logic behind it. As soon as I select an input I get only left...

Acer Aspire 4520 won't turn on after reboot

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.

It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.

The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.

                                            If I remove the...
