Re: LG 32LX1D will not turn on

Thanks again Momaka, I think there is only one that Budm outlined in post #20...

While googling this issue there are quite a few posts and videos but having all the info in one place really helps. Folks don't alway update the outcome which really is ashame for others. Badcaps has been very helpful and I appreciate your help and guidance. I'll be sure to update my results.
tom66 and mdPhoenix - thanks for access to the manual. Based on the image wonderfully annotated by Budm, my board shows that capacitor labeled as "c126" - physically it is 47uf 50v but the manual lists that part as this: 0.1UF 50V 10% X7R 2012 R/TP - not sure what the story is there but I am replacing with the same thing I'm taking out. Fingers crossed...turning the soldering iron on now.. here goes!

Well, unfortunately, replacing that cap did not solve the problem. I guess I'll be looking at getting a new dmm and trying the voltage tests that were outlined above. Not sure if it's going to help or I should just go and get a new one :-(. Any recomendations for a better replacement than LG?

I would give a try and may you bring it back to life and it would not end up in a land fill

Just take your time and if you do not understand some thing or do not know what to next then ask questions and some one will help you

OH MY GOD! I can't tell you how much I miss my good old LG right now! I bit the bullet and went and got a Samsung 32UE5300 and I can't put into words how inferior the image is! The privacy disclaimer is great - They will "sync" and recommend for you but you can't seem to add anything without going thru them? I guess it just makes it easier for them to separate you from your money and collect data for the NSA's tracking activities. "Smart-TV", right! I was so much better using my laptop and home stereo hooked up for surround sound, DVD's, Photos, any web surfing, games or Netflix! Yeah sure it's nice to have integrated into the remote but I'D rather be the one in control of my content thank you. The image is so washed out it is incredible they sell so many of these. I've been happily getting over the air tv for the last 10 years on my LG with an awesome image and haven't spent a DIME for cable. Same antenna I was using on the LG gets about 2/3 of the channels on this thing! Lucky for me my homes location has no obstructions and normally gets great reception, now if I could just get a good tv!.

I see someone was nice enough to respond with some more ideas. THANK YOU but for the moment I'm going to take a break and then watch the ball drop. This is going back in the box in the morning. Sorry for the venting... Thanks everyone and Happy New Year!!!!!

            Sorry to hear that.

Yes, get a DMM and check the stand-by voltage. Cheap new DMMs can be found for as low as $5 (their quality isn't that good, though). If you plan on doing more repairs (either as a hobby or professionally), I would recommend you get something used on ebay for a little more. Very decent used meters can be found for $20 shipped quite often.

Also, maybe provide a picture of your power board (if you can), just to make sure we didn't miss something.

            I feel your pain.
My parents have a Samsung "smart" LED HDTV as well. Not that bad, overall, but I absolutely hate that SmartHUB sync/update feature. All it does is it constantly wants to update, and then only adds useless features to the TV. Me thinks it won't be too long before Samsung "accidentally" bricks the TV with those updates (meanwhile collecting who knows how much personal data... ooops I meant just harmlessly "sync-ing" ).
But at the same time, I like to have the TV connected to my home network since I can use Serviio to stream movies from my computer to the TV.

Oh yeah, don't you just love the sound from the TV's built-in speakers?
My grandmother says it sounds like a tin can . (and I don't think she's wrong on that).

OK, IC103, T102 are for the stby power supply. Check the DC voltage between chassis ground and the Cathode of the D301 to see if it has any output at all.

OK, remove power and heat up C126 with hair dryer for about 2 minutes then apply the power to see if the power supply will start up.

                          No change in the reading.
The positive side of C126 reads -43.6v respect to neutral ground. The voltage across the capacitor C126 is 13.6v

When you work on the primary side, the chassis is not the ref ground point, you must use the negative leg of the main filter cap (450V) as the Ground ref.
OK, the 13.6VDC may not be enough to tun the SMPS IC. You can disconnect the cables from the power supply that go to the main board and see if the STBY voltage will come on just in case the main board is loading down the STBY voltage.
We also need to P/N of that STBY SMPS IC get the spec and pin out of the IC.
Since you are working in the PRIMARY (Deadly side), do not touch anything with your hands or body, to be safe, you should plug this TV into GFCI outlet at least.

Those are numbers as printed on top of the IC103? That does not look right at all. That is the power supply number, NOT the P/N of the IC.
