Walmart is disgusting. Ethical issues aside (China, anti-competitive etc.), they sell a lot of really cheaply made shit and the one near my house always looks as if everything could use a really good cleaning (except the merchandise itself).

Sanyo is low quality and when needs service be prepared to pay wide open even TV is cheap to begin with. Good LCDs don't burn.

Three errors in one sentence? I'm not sure if that is a record, but it could be.

          1. The company name is Wal-Mart.

          2. The lady's name is Hillary

          3. She hasn't been on the board of Directors since 1992.

Recent Consumer Reports surveys show that Sanyo LCDs have one of the lowest failure rates. Actually I don't think they reveal any statistically significant difference in failures except for Mitsubishi and the worst brands, like Westinghouse and Polaroid.

I gotta wonder if that is a plasma and not an LCD. Maybe some employee saw a sticker on the floor and put it on the wrong tv? I have never seen LCDs with burn in. In school they told us that it was impossible, but not everything I learned was totally true.

Really? Sanyo is junk? I personally like the Sanyo product and company. Even the crts in the 90's I thought were good value (cheap) products.
I agree sir. I believe the problem with your television is that you need the picture tube replaced.

i have seen image persistance on lcd sets.mostly on cheap panels like the chi mei in an audiovox 26" on my bench.
it goes away quickly and is most easily spotted on a still image with a brightly colored area.a negative of that colored area will be seen in some scenes later.
example is a webpage with bluegreen stripes down the sides.on a white screen you will see pink stripes.

I've never seen a LCD burn-in like that.....even at our local walfart, which never shuts theirs off. I've seen burns on some of their plasmas though, all Sanyo's ironically enough. I think our local walmart rotates the stock often enough to prevent most of this. they periodically sell floor models dirt cheap.

I do know that LCDs do not burn in, but plasmas do.
Apparently, they are not aware of the need to prevent this happening!

Vizio is horrible, at least they are simple to fix.

"Burn in", while descriptive of the appearance is probably not a good term, but a permanent image on an LCD panel is possible.

An LCD panel works by using a polarizing voltage across the cells in the panel. Under some circumstances (usually an electronic failure) they will electrolyze the liquid in the cells. It won't happen in a panel that is working properly, but the chearper they build them the more likely it is.

My Sanyo 26" LCD TV also gets image burn in.
At first it would go away after awhile but this last burn in that happened from falling asleep while it was on a show that was 4:3 ratio and the sides are a permanent burn in now.

I always thought LCD's were pretty safe from burn in owning this sanyo has proven different also have seen the old Dell LCD TV's get burn in.

Purchased the Philips 5000 series LCD 4 months ago and noticed right away it does not get burn in like my Sanyo does.

I had read on another video forum that people were getting burn-in images on HD sets that were getting 'pillarbox' mode images. Either side of the display would have a different brightness and/or color level displayed by the pixels that had not gotten as much usage when a full-screen HD image was displayed.

These panels are meant to be driven with a high frequency AC signal, so there is no overall DC bias across each cell. If there is a failure like you mention, DC might be applied to the cells. This happens with LCDs from calculators etc. Try connecting a battery to the segments. They will work but they will be damaged if left for a while.

I guess the most common fault would be T-con going bad, it's possible it could fail in a way that the picture continues to work but a DC bias is applied. Like some amplifiers can kill speakers by keeping a DC bias across the output terminals - yet you probably wouldn't notice the difference in audio.

As long as the burn-in isn't really severe, you can usually get rid of it by displaying a solid white picture for a relatively long time (couple hours or more)

Well I have a friend of mine that has a 27" TV that he uses as a CCTV monitor, its going on 5 years old. the gridlines are burned into the LCD display.

                                        Just so you know ;-)
