Probably going to be high.. 100 to 150.. Eye of the beholder. I love Pioneer, but only as much as it doesn;t become a constant pain in the ass. You have had 2 failures now within a year. Personally if it were me, i'd send it out to the pasture..

Funny you mention the Sony.. On my bench is still the XBR75X850C. Samsung panel.. Panel faulure which I think I have fixed however every tcon I order is toast already. Trying to find a workaround. The XBR65X850B still chugging along with the kids and Netflix.. Has alot of hrs on it.. But LG panel in that one.

The 900e uses manufacturer AUO for thier panel.. Ive had good and bad luck with AUO..

Most likely, however theres always the small chance that the short could have harmed the Y board also..

Oled! Lol those are pricy. Sony's a good tv but make sure you get a good warranty. Keep your backlights at max 60% you'll he happy if it goes out and it's warranted.

I personally like the older B series Sony because it's proved reliable, however it's not new.

There's nothing really wrong with the 900E, just as a repairman, I'm always biased against any brand given the intake of repairs of course. I will say that Sony is one of my least repairs when it comes to modern sets, LG, Sharp, Vizio, Samsung I see a few, but probably because those are the more purchased brands. They're cheap and readily available at Walmart if you know what I mean. You won't find Sony until you start going to the higher markets like Best Buy , HH Gregg places like that.

Love Pioneer however you're not going to find anything new as they went out of the TV making industry.

If you see anything made by elite it is not a Pioneer it is manufactured by sharp which also got out of the TV industry. All sharps you see now are manufactured by a Chinese off brand

Did Sharp admit defeat, after multiple panel driver failures?

Or is it the fault of one or more manufacturers that Sharp outsources to?

And the Elite tv name, sounds just like Elite caps! Better to stay away!

Right. Everything I see from sharp or Vizio using sharp panels are using a tcon with a Novatek processor.

Sold to the highest bidder!

There's nothing wrong with using a Novatek processor, they're an established player in custom silicon, not some one-hung-lo Chinese brand.

Sharp still makes its own panels in the large-screen (>60", I think) segment, and that's where you can get a decent TV, although as we know the failure rate of some of them is quite poor.

Interesting I always summed novatek up to a low end company. I've had 3 processor cilliers fail within 6 months where I get red bars from rom source drivers And a very badly looking section where the red streaks are when there is video playing With the psychedelic effect you would get between VESA and JEIDA. All with failed novatek tcon processors. All on Vizio 70 and 65 inch units.

However all came from the same company so probably something to do with whatever the hell They put their TV's through. Surprisingly within all 3 of those I had no failed LCD panels.

Hey guys....can u tell me where I can buy the chip I need? The repair chop said they don't make pioneer parts anymore. I don't think he understood me. I was just gonna buy the chip and then have someone install it.

Hi Tom and Shawn - I got the chip installed. See picture. The TV turns on and I get sound but no picture. The light is now green. The picture is mostly black but with white dots flickering faintly. I also hear a buzz when come in and out when the picture changes but I think this buzz is normal. It always make a small sounding buzz.

There was metal guard that covered the upper and lower IC scan boards that also clamped pressure on the panel to the ribbons (see picture). I have not put that guard back on yet....not sure if that would cause the no picture.

Not sure where to start. Maybe the hair dryer on some caps?

I guess its better news. He charged me $100.

So here is what the picture looks like. Now there is a black line across the screen and the green dots flicker randomly in different areas, some red, some white. I couldn't get a better picture. Most of the screen is dark.

I checked all connections and I put the guard back on that protects the panel ribbons.

That black line means that the chip he replaced is not making contact in one spot for 1 horizontal pixel. Not too sure if that's going to affect the black background but that looks more like the main board is not sending the signal out to the control board. Are you sure that's all connections between the main board or the signal processing board and the control board which is the one with the lights on it that we discussed earlier are connected? Also check all connections between the control board and the sustain boards
