    Firefox.. WTF?!

    WTF happened to Firefox lately?
To me, it looks like my once so beloved browser has turned into a total POS lately..

constant lockups after a couple hours runtime, INSANE RAM usage (700MB for a couple windows with about 5 tabs each!?) and general instability/glitchyness..

i've never had problems like this with the old 2.x versions or the early 3.0.x versions..

i'll just leave this video here.. happened after less than 4 hours runtime.
started out as tiny 0.5sec. lockups on ebay (most noticable while scrolling). got worse and worse.. lockups got longer and longer and more and more frequent.. shortly after i recorded this video, firefox crashed completely..

everything's updated. i also tried disabling ALL of the plugins.. no go.. same BS..

i guess Firefox is no good anymore for powerusers like me who usually have more than just 3 windows with 5 tabs in total open..

    Re: Firefox.. WTF?!

I did this test a while ago.
.... Using an old P4 PC with 512Mb RAM and Win2k.
.... After a fresh reboot of the PC.
.... and with the phone line to the DSL modem disconnected.
I opened Firefox 3.2.x [I think it was] and went to a static [non-updating] page in the modem's web interface.
[The internet was PHYSICALLY disconnected, the modem generated web page had nothing to update, - no communication going on.]
-- THEN [With nothing else whatsoever being done on the PC.]
I checked memory use in Task manager. [System only had 1/2 GB.]
At the start it was something like 130-150 Mb.
A few hours later it was up around 750Mb [more RAM than the PC even had.] and the PC was locked up.

And people have tried to tell me the FF memory leaks aren't bad ot don't exist.

Firefox only functions fully if you remember to think in Russian.

or you could try disabling java or try Opera.

i disabled pretty much EVERY SINGLE PLUGIN.. this crap STILL happens no matter what..

trying to get used to SRWare Iron at the moment (which is a Google Chrome clone)
RAM usage is so-so.. but it's nowhere near as glitchy/buggy so far..

I've never had the sort of problems you're having. Admittedly, the memory usage is too high (as I type this firefox is using 104,320 K of memory according to task manager), but with 4GB of RAM, I have tons to spare.

that is not completely accurate.. for me, i have 3 tabs open.. it is using 130,040 k... but what you are forgetting about is the plugin-containere.exe file.. that adds about an extra 26 megs on top of the firefox amount.. and it is a firefox program..

FireFox is a Secret High Tech Russian Fighter "MiG 31" NATO code named "FireFox. It can do Mach 6, and is invisible to radar. I think flying the plane and using its weapons was by thought command. Hence this is why you had to think in Russian to make it work. Its a pretty good movie. Its not one of Clint Eastwood's best but its still ok. Anyway Clint went to Russia and took this aircraft. He was chased by a second FireFox and they had a big dogfight which Clint won. Thats about it. Look it up on the Wikipedia and read the plot line.

It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Agreed. I won't install ANYTHING on my system from a company that makes money from spam. I've used FF since v1.0 and still love it. So it has memory leaks.....my system has 24gb, I don't think it'll leak that much! Show me any program or OS that doesn't have a flaw or bug.......

IE blows goats, always has. Opera was ok, I just never really liked the 'feel' of it.

^ thats why i mentioned SRWare Iron. That's built from the chromium sourcecode and (supposedly) doesn't spy on you..

never really liked opera either.. not back in the days when it was shareware, and i still don't really like it today..

IE.. well.. no need to even mention that actually..

was totally happy with firefox up till the latest 2.x versions.. 3.0 gave me some bugs.. was ok though.. after that... instead of fixing the bugs, FFX kept getting more and more it seems.. quality took a massive nosedive..

and what else is left? safari? lol
just too bad there isn't anything else than those.. most of the "alternative browsers" are just skins for IE or FFX or whatever.. not real browsers.. :|

the new 10.6 opera probably feels very different,
for some reason they just switched from trolltech's QT library to GTK.
maybe because Nokia are involved and it's licensed.

They can sell it to advertising companies who use it to collect data on you to make sure you get the "correct" ads specially for you.

Relatively new to TV repair - as you will see. Rescued this TV from the curb. No backlights, but I could see an image on LCD with flashlight, so suspected bad LED strips. When I got to the part of lifting the LCD off the frame, it was stuck a little bit from some tape used to hold down a thin layer of foam around the frame. I saw 8 tabs on each side of the LCD that I haven't seen on any of the 3 TVs that I have taken apart before. I immediately thought, wow the engineers that designed this were thinking about the serviceman when they put these lift tabs on here - good for them. So I started yanking...

Now that I have your attention:

In the last few days, it looks like Firefox has changed their software terms so they are now evil and WILL sell your data.

I already use Palemoon for Win7 sometimes. Looks like I'll be switching to librewolf as well, as Youtuber Louis Rossman suggests. Palemoon still supports Win7, but sometimes pages don't work properly. The Google Chrome browser might also still work for Win7.

I will have no choice but to upgrade my Firefox, so that I can copy dozens of tabs into a document or spreadsheet, or go through the history to...

o, customer gave me this, keyboard had issues with keys and cleaning them did not seem to fix them, so replaced keyboard

On reassembly, MHF4 connectors on wifi antenna were warped, bent up wifi card connectors (didn't see until did a high magnification on them)

Ordered new a antenna, wifi card. Went to replace it and all the tabs where the screen cable/antenna holder broke when I was trying ti take it apart (non marring pry tool)

I noticed the keyboard had a copper sheet. Further looking into this, it's because how hot this thing ran (nvidia gpu and...

Toshiba TV bad panel half screen dark - pull tabs or not?
                                          by ashyt16
Hi fellas, I have a Toshiba 50u6863db (vestel crap) here belonging to a family member.
The TV was given me to repair (possibly) as it had developed a blank screen, just back lights and sound.

Upon further investigation it turned out one of her cats had sprayed on the screen as I could see it on the edge of the panel and tabs and it stank. Looks like it probably shorted the circuitry. I cleaned it up and still the same.

I initially suspected Tcon board as none of the test points were showing correct voltages. Tried removing one LVDS cable at a time, same result....
