  • Re: Vizio D55un-E1 COF Lifting Tabs - Not!

I don't understand what "duplicate each other" means. They really don't back each other up, because if only 1 out of 16 fails (or detaches), the TV image is nearly useless. But if 8 out of 16 fail (or detach), the TV works perfect. That doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, because my TV is now running with 1 side only taking the full load, does this mean the life expectancy has now diminished significantly?...

  • Vizio D55un-E1 COF Lifting Tabs - Not!

Relatively new to TV repair - as you will see. Rescued this TV from the curb. No backlights, but I could see an image on LCD with flashlight, so suspected bad LED strips. When I got to the part of lifting the LCD off the frame, it was stuck a little bit from some tape used to hold down a thin layer of foam around the frame. I saw 8 tabs on each side of the LCD that I haven't seen on any of the 3 TVs that I have taken apart before. I immediately thought, wow the engineers that designed this were thinking about the serviceman when they put these lift tabs on here - good for them. So I started yanking...

  • Re: Samsung LN46A550 Power Cycling

I also just had success getting an LN46A550P3F working again by replacing C102. Thanks for this helpful post, budm!

I noticed there is a kit on Ebay (see attachment) for repairing these Samsung boards and it includes a replacement C102, C131, IC101, and a resistor. I wonder which resistor may need replacement?...

  • LG 47LG70 Salvaged

I picked up this 47" TV and it didn't have a picture or sound, but it did have backlights. No visible damage on any of the boards, and all the voltages were normal on the power supply. I figured it was probably the main board, but could not find one available for this model right now anywhere. I thought I might as well try reflowing the large BGA chip as I have seen others have success doing it. I heated it with my cheapo hot air rework station for a few minutes, monitored the temp with a thermocouple, trying to keep the temperature around 450-500 deg F.

    I was very surprised...

  • Samsung LNS4092DX/XAA Inverter Board Connector

I've seen many electrical connectors, but not this type and it has me stupified as how to disconnect it from the board. This is connector CN104 on the left side inverter board (SIT400WD20B00). I've tugged and pryed it and no luck getting it off. Don't want to break it. It almost appears that the entire thing is mounted to the board and the pinned wires were latched into it one by one, but surely that can't be the case. Making me feel pretty stupid! Anyone have any idea what the trick is?...

  • Re: Toshiba 42RV530U Won't Startup

Just to close the book on this one...

I bought a main board on Ebay for a good price, and the TV now works!. So not sure what is wrong with the old board (probably a $1 component went bad or f/w, etc.), but it's too bad nobody toubleshoots & repairs these old boards for a reasonable price anymore. I hate to shitcan it, but it is what it is.

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping me isolate the problem to the main board.

  • Need Firmware for Toshiba Model 42RV530U

Looking for the latest firmware file(s) for the main board (P/N PE0541, aka V28A000722A1) of a Toshiba model 42RV530U. I know it's a long shot. I still have to try.

  • Re: Toshiba 42RV530U Won't Startup

It looks that way. I'm almost tempted to jump 3v to POW_SIG to test it, but I'd rather just get the main board working (or replaced) so it can do it, along with any other important control logic it needs to do for TV turn-on....

This is going to drive me in-Seine

So, I decided that I want to try reloading the firmware. Called Toshiba, which is now handled by Dynabook, to get the latest f/w for this set. Recording tells me that to go to website if my TV is older than 2015. Go to website, enter model number - no software available. WTF, this TV isn't from 1985 - it's a 2008 (most of my socks are older than that and they probably have 10 years left on them).

My search for the f/w is going as well as my search for the...

  • Re: Toshiba 42RV530U Won't Startup

Thanks RJ, I found that one, but it's more like just a regular user's manual. There is a version (I think it is 2.01 or something like that) that is about 75 pages and has the all the detailed technical data and schematics in it. I cannot find a pdf of it so far.

Would you agree that it appears the power supply is functioning normally on this TV or is there anything else to test? There is an SD slot on the main board for updating firmware - maybe it somehow became corrupted. This manual indicates that yellow blinking LED...

Thanks for uploading that - I couldn't find it anywhere. I have found the service manual but it is in some form that requires an abstract software called Zeus that I can't get to work....

No voltage at 12VLCD. I disconnected the t-con cable and still no voltage at 24INV.

I wonder if there is a problem with the main board then if it is supposed to be sending the POWER_SIG signal? I still have the blinking yellow led happening at the front of the TV, so maybe it isn't "initializing" correctly (if that's the correct term). It's definitely sending the POWER_TV signal but not sure what that does (beside turn on the 24v/12v transformer)....

You could be right - there is a pin called "Pow_Sig", but I never see voltage on it. See pics....

  • Re: Toshiba 42RV530U Won't Startup

Ha. So, when I was pulling the cables off to take pictures of the connectors, I discovered a pin named "24v" that was hiding behind the wire bundle. So, my mistake, I do have 24v at that pin, in fact, 24.5v. I have it when I first plug in the TV or when I press the power button to turn the TV on. And it acts in the same manner as the 12v pins in that it slowly decays to 0v in about 10 minutes when power is turned off (or automatically shutoff by the TV). The pins that I never have 24v on are the ones going to the inverters...

What's the question for 24v? It is 0v in standby and when power button is pressed, and when invertor connectors are disconnected. No 24v at any time....

The solder joints look good on T860. Secondary fuses F870 and F871 are good as well.

This is stranger than I first thought. When the TV is plugged in, POWER_TV=3.3v (without pressing the ON button), then after about a minute it goes to 0v.

The 12V pins are at 11.8 volts, but then when POWER_TV goes to 0v, the voltage very slowly decreases and after about 10 minutes or so, goes to 0. When the power button is pressed, 12V returns to 11.8v and remains steady until either I press the power button again, or the TV automatically turns itself off (POWER_TV=0), which happens in about a minute. The...

  • Toshiba 42RV530U Won't Startup

Trying to resurrect a Toshiba 42RV530U, and was hoping I could get some clues from you guys. Blinking yellow led on the front of the TV and a relay click - otherwise no life.

Power supply has 122VAC at the bridge input and 168vdc at the output. The large bulk capacitor (C820) has 165vdc when the TV is in standby and 391vdc when the TV is turned on.

Here's the voltage I measured at the power supply connectors when the TV is plugged in:
    Pin V
    5V1 5.0
    12V 11.8
    POWER_PRO 3.0

    And when the power...

  • Re: Service manuals available free

Newb here! I downloaded a service manual (42RV503U), but it requires Zeus software to view. It looks like Zeus requires an older version of IE (like 6.0). I'm running Windows 10 on a 64-bit system, and IE6 won't install. Is there some type of workaround to getting this to work on a modern PC?
