I have same problem with my m701d-a3r.
Do you find a solution? -
Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
I would check the backlight circuit and backlights first to rule them out as the defect.Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
I'm not 100% certain but it looks very much like a side tab issue which has been discussed widely on the forum. Do a forum search and see what you think.Willing to help but I'm no expert.Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
Yes this is a side tab issue. Just repaired one the other day same exact symptoms as the e701 series. This has a different bezel surround so it's a little more intricate to pull apart. All done from the back side. The driver boards on the side are located behind the panel on a black plastic housing assembly. You need to remove the screws hold the driver boards in slipping away disconnect the frame and pull it back and carefully remove all tabs feeling way from the panel on the defective side. This side would be your right side which is the darker side of the pictureDid I leave the soldering iron on?Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
i already put it back together the owner is picking it up today... the panel is likely unrepairable right? I did inspect them and couldnt find any obvious damage or discoloration.Last edited by augiedoggy; 12-09-2017, 09:39 AM.Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
unrepairable probably... but saveable maybe. The other test is disconnect the small corner cables at the bottom interconnecting the side boards to the bottom.... closest to the side in question. The whole picture on that side may go "darker" or similar to what you are seeing in the area currently. Then you could potentially try the "save" by removing the whole bad side and see if things improve... as a last resort. It sounds like its headed for the recycle bind.Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
I seen this on some sharp LCD panels. Has this one had the side tabs removed off of 1 side yet? I have especially seen it on a few repairs and I have done removing the side drivers that have shorted previously.Did I leave the soldering iron on?Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
thanks for the advice,
I did not remove any of the side tabs.. didnt see how those could cause a dark spot isolated in the center like that. The owner is going to use it the way it is.. if I remove the side tabs it will likely dramatically shorten the life as most of these repaired sets die in months from doubling the load to the remaining tabs=it seems.Comment

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
Most likely. Could be aging panel. Possibly the panel is requiring more VCOM voltage or something. Best to leave alone anyway. Could get worse. A couple years ago I saw a vizio E701- a3 like this at target on display and it looked horrible. The ones that I've seen a couple of a were like this after doing the side tab surgery.Did I leave the soldering iron on?Comment

by gavricHello, i am working on Vizio M70-C3. It can hardly power on, it takes 15 power button presses or remote. Seems like eeprom problem that I seen before but all reading online says that this tv has power board or main board problem.
When tv powers on vizio V logo shows nice on whole screen. picture 1
When it goes into tv mode it only shows good picture on left side of screen, right is all scrabbled up. pic 2
When i start youtube picture shows on left side fine, right is all scrambled. pic 2

by ggil44Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

by maricmHI all,
hope someone point to the possible issue before I start buying replacement parts.
Tv starts normal and responds to remote fine, PSU voltages mesured fine 19v was 18.9V under load and 19V with main board disconnected.
Backlight stays on all the time,
Sound works fine.
screen keeps changing form black to full picture in about 1sec intervals.
Picture looks fine with no visible artifacts.
I have disconnected backlights and flashlight test confirmed that picture is still doing the same.
Disconnecting left and right ribbons on... -
by rblack711Relatively new to TV repair - as you will see. Rescued this TV from the curb. No backlights, but I could see an image on LCD with flashlight, so suspected bad LED strips. When I got to the part of lifting the LCD off the frame, it was stuck a little bit from some tape used to hold down a thin layer of foam around the frame. I saw 8 tabs on each side of the LCD that I haven't seen on any of the 3 TVs that I have taken apart before. I immediately thought, wow the engineers that designed this were thinking about the serviceman when they put these lift tabs on here - good for them. So I started yanking...

Hi,
I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.
If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and... - Loading...
