Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
Yes this is a side tab issue. Just repaired one the other day same exact symptoms as the e701 series. This has a different bezel surround so it's a little more intricate to pull apart. All done from the back side. The driver boards on the side are located behind the panel on a black plastic housing assembly. You need to remove the screws hold the driver boards in slipping away disconnect the frame and pull it back and carefully remove all tabs feeling way from the panel on the defective side. This side would be your right side which is the darker side of the pictureDid I leave the soldering iron on?

unrepairable probably... but saveable maybe. The other test is disconnect the small corner cables at the bottom interconnecting the side boards to the bottom.... closest to the side in question. The whole picture on that side may go "darker" or similar to what you are seeing in the area currently. Then you could potentially try the "save" by removing the whole bad side and see if things improve... as a last resort. It sounds like its headed for the recycle bind.

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
thanks for the advice,
I did not remove any of the side tabs.. didnt see how those could cause a dark spot isolated in the center like that. The owner is going to use it the way it is.. if I remove the side tabs it will likely dramatically shorten the life as most of these repaired sets die in months from doubling the load to the remaining tabs=it seems.

Re: Vizio m701d-a3r disorted picture
Most likely. Could be aging panel. Possibly the panel is requiring more VCOM voltage or something. Best to leave alone anyway. Could get worse. A couple years ago I saw a vizio E701- a3 like this at target on display and it looked horrible. The ones that I've seen a couple of a were like this after doing the side tab surgery.Did I leave the soldering iron on?
