I have found on when upgrading the firmware on some of the Toshiba TV's that I have to format the usb drives not using the quick format option. I found that if I used the quick option when formatting the usb flash drive it would not accept the firmware (this was when using a Windows 10 OS). Worth a try?Comment

Hello i come back to this TV after a long time. I think the problem is that a have an italy(EIA) version of a batv board that i bought from italy and according the manual they use different firmware from EUA and i cant find anywhere the firmware(EIA) for italy, does anyone have it?Comment

I ran into the same issue. I want to take KDL-32EX720 mainboard (works fine in original TV) into the KDL-40EX726. G and Y Leds blinks, but USB fw update not starting, only 1 sec communication visible on status led. I use an old 4GB Kingstone pendrive, which worked well in any TV so far. Try this: after the LEDs start blinking, wait 30 - 40... seconds and only then insert the USB flash drive with the software into the TV. Old Sony TVs are very sensitive to the USB flash drive itself, try old ones with 512 - 1 - 2 Gb.

ok so was 16bit, try that so, i cant check every thing with a cellular, the idea was that, user can use google or what he wants,
fat16 -> up to 2gb..

the size of the Stick doesn't matter, it should be before formatted converted in MBR mode, so the TV will boot from it, most USB stick are GPT mode TV will pass themComment

the fact are, old USB from manifacture 2-4 Gb are all MBR , the later 8Gb and above they are GPT. so need to convert them to MBR. that's allt

I have copied "00000100_07e8046a.bin" to the pendrive from "sony_tvupdate_2011_4027_eua_auth.zip". There is no change if I wait for 30-40sec. after G-Y blinking. Also tried to rename upgrade.loader.pkg
I will try to obtain a max. 1GB pendrive and try again.
I also confirmed my stick has MBR partition.Comment

That was the problem: I copied only the file not the folder. And also a good news that, I reformatted my 4GB chinese led stick with RUFUS to MBR partition and USB update went down easily immediately, so doesn't need special low capacity stick for it.
PS: So far I have done many USB update, but almost all need to copy the (bin, pkg, etc.) file to root, not the folder. This is exception.Comment

Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about... -

I replaced the mainboard on a KDL60w685a, and now it blinks green and yellow. I think i need to update the firmware. But it's not available from Sony website.
Does anyone have the firmware for this TV? -
So I bought another main board from eBay and the same thing happened.
I got the firmware file from the Sony website. My model was listed and everything matched.
sony_tvupdate_2011_4027_aaa_auth.zip was the file.
Extracted to a folder: "sony_dtv0FA10A01A0A1_00000301"
with file: 00000301_07e8046a.bin inside.
Loaded it into the root of an otherwise empty USB thumbnail bought from around the same time as the TV. Not too old, not too new.. under 2Gig.
The file reads perfectly. Lots of "disk activity"... -

Docker Type-C Gen 2 - Model 40AS. Was given to me by a friend for free ,but with the problem that you cannot use the video output ports.
All ports work , USB , Ethernet, Type C ... but HDMI + Display Port don't work
