I've been preparing to unlock the BIOS password on my EliteBook 840 G5 for about a month. I got a T48 programmer along with a WSON8 8x6 adapter, but after removing the motherboard, I was surprised to find that the EC chip was actually in a WSON8 5x6 package.

From what I've read on this forum, only the 16MB EC chip is compatible with RCUnlocker, and since I don't have an adapter for this chip, I'm stuck. Ordering a WSON8 5x6 adapter from AliExpress would mean waiting at least 20 days, so I was wondering—do I have any other options?

Can I unlock the main BIOS instead, or is the EC chip the only way to remove the password? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Should I post the motherboard’s serial number and model number? The serial number on the back of the laptop doesn’t match the one shown in HP System Information—I think the previous owner might have replaced the back cover. Should I reassemble the laptop and send you the serial number from HP System Information instead?

So there is still EC chip, look for chips with number 128 or 256, for example: 25Q256VDS..

I can't read the EC chip because I don't have an adapter for it. It's the ISSI " ic25lp128 "

Mine is wson8 6*5 and since I only have an adapter for wson8 6*8. I was asking if there is another way to unlock my bios.

Mine is wson8 6*5 and since I only have an adapter for wson8 6*8. I was asking if there is another way to unlock my bios.
Only bios and EC, your computer can't be opened with bios then EC is the only way. Or you can solder wires to the extra pins to see.

Sorry for the long story. I have a Dell Latitude 5530 (i7) laptop (South Peak 15 MLK MB DDR4 203102-1 FK8VG$JA) with an admin BIOS password that I want to remove. Service Tag: HYKFPT3. Other than that the laptop worked OK.

I found a CH341A Black and went looking for the BIOS chip on the motherboard. After trying to read one chip that was a firmware chip but not the BIOS I think I found the BIOS chip labeled Winbond 25Q256JVEN. Altogether I think I found 4 different firmware chips in the laptop. The BIOS chip is a WSON8 6x8. I used the CH341A, NeoProgrammer, and a cheap pogo pin clip...

                                            Hi everyone,

I’m a student currently locked out of the BIOS on my HP EliteBook 830 G6. I bought the laptop second-hand, and the previous owner didn't provide the password. I really need access to the BIOS to change storage settings and boot orders for my studies.

                                            System Details:
                                            • Model: HP EliteBook 830 G6
                                            • Processor: Intel Core i5 (8th Gen)
                                            • Serial Number: 5CG0080LKD
                                            • Halt Code (from 3rd fail): qeh11u1kst

I'm hoping someone here can help me generate an SMC.bin file or provide a master password that works for this generation. Any guidance on how to get back...

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                                            Hello Hello,

I have been browsing the site and gotten so much useful info from here, including extremely helpful boardviews and several other very useful types of information. I am very grateful to this community, as I have actually eeked out a living from buying salvage PC's & Macbooks and repairing them. So, thank you all in advance!

I have searched and found some useful information regarding my issue, but my case is a bit different than the info I'm finding. But if anyone here can give me any useful advice, it would be highly appreciated.
