I've been using VoptXp 7.12. Works great and its quick. There are versions out there for Vista, and Windows 7. If you want it for Xp shoot me a pm with an email adress in it and I will send it to you. Below is a screen shot of

I never defragment. I find that it rarely makes any difference in performance.I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Dont usually defrag myself since im on SSD, but on parents computer im using mydefrag (www.mydefrag.com) formerly known as jkdefrag. Does the job and have scheduling and all that stuff if you want to get advanced.Comment

for defrag, what is wrong with the one in xp? unless you really want to defrag system files ( for that, i plug the hd into another computer and defrag it that way. on my xp boxes, thats what i have used... and trust me, a defreg really does help. quicker access times. i once had one that was 80% fragged... it was sooo slow! a defrag helped it a lot.
linux does not need it as it stores files in a non-fragmenting manner.sigpic

Sorry for bad wording, but thing is i have SSD and normal ones in computer. Never defrag the SSD but i do defrag the normal ones (seldom though, almost never)
Maybe that didnt get through from what i wrote, sorry bout that.
And to answer ratdude, whats wrong with the built in in XP, well basically nothing wrong with it, apart from it being overly slow and dont have at all as much settings and optimizations one might want. Like it doesnt order files on file usage, only bunch them up so they are not fragmented.Comment

I use IObit Smart Defrag, and the latest version does SSD drives.My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.Comment

When transferring a machanical HDD partition to a SSG I use Perfectdisk
Because it allows to move the MFT backup copy, the MFT is at the middle of the partition, and this is the reason a NTFS partition can be shrinked a max of 50%
So I first shrink it 50%, then run Perfectdisk so it moves the MFT that is now at the end of the partition to the "new" middle of the resized partition
Then rinse and repeat untill the partition have been shrunken enough so it can be moved with Drive Snapshot to the new SSD disk
(If only the SSD's would come down in price, then this would not be necessary)

How on earth did you manage that? I just analysed my HDD. Volume fragmentation is 0%, File fragmentation is 1%. That's after a bit over a year of fairly heavy use. the reason i ask is for my brother in laws laptop the built in xp defragger doesnt work right and he has defraggler and that barrely works id put diskkeeper on it for him if i had the money to pay for it.My Computer.

If im not mistaken at least the win2000 built in defragger is actually a stripped down diskkeeper defragger. Not sure about the XP one though, someone else here might know.Comment

I don't defragment my hard drives anymore, though (at least not until the Windows XP defragmenter tells me I should).

I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.
I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow... -
Are there good brands for 'run capacitors' or 'start capacitors' that are used on electric motors or heat pump compressors? ... r are the good capacitor brands for electronics (power supplies, laptops, motherboards, etc.) also the good brands for run capacitors?
Yeah I know this might be a novice question, but I just wanted to be sure. I did do a search on the forum but did not see this question asked before.
