Hi
This is more of an info thread if anyone else happens stuble uppon a similar problem with a Nikon flash. And if youre planning on working on a flash, beware of the huge cap wich in this case is housed in the upper part of flash.
Background is that many ppl have trouble with them just randomly stop powering up. You can sometime get them to work somewhat through just slowly close battery lid until it lights up and hold it there. But when you close it completely more often then not it just dies again. What i found is that its due to either bent contact springs in...

Re: Wireless throughput in A band (N300)
Have you ruled out any kind of interference? Some cheaply built electronics can really mess up wireless performance. Try moving the router at least a meter or more from any other electrical device. Turn of as many electronic devices as possible just to check.
Another thing to try is to change the orientation of your router, just tilting it on its side can make a massive difference if there is interference around. If your router have external antennas, try moving them around at different angles.

Re: DD-WRT software help.
I used to use that router with dd-wrt and from what i remember some of the builds had a problem with the usb driver. Some kind of memory leak wich would make it slower over time. Just turn the usb feature of if youre not using it and see how that works for you....

Re: Best tape for a cracked case?
There are many ways one could go about fixing that, depending on how good it has to look and what time and money you have to spend.
If you have all the parts to the broken of stands you could probably use glue to fix it, what glue depends on the plastic.
For a quick fix i would probably do something like drill small holes and put zip ties in to hold it together. That would hopefully not wear out as tape would. Beware though so you don't drill into anything that is vital. Best would probably be to take it apart for...

Re: Fluke 179 won't tun on
From your last pics it looks as if there is a break and/or short on the bottom side of the 14 pin ic. Might just be graphics artifacts due to picture compression though. The board also seems discolored around there?

Re: PC Ultra Low Framerate
This may seem completely wrong but try the 128x textures and see how that goes, or if there is such a thing as 32x you could try that to. Don't remember where i have read it but i have a vague memory of people having trouble with certain cards in combination with certain texture resolutions.
There is also tons of settings you can poke around at in java. One that comes to mind is the one that limits the RAM usage of the java engine.

Re: old toshiba P10
Sounds to me like the short protection or similar kicks in, could be just about anything causing it. Try to remove non essential to boot parts like keyboard maybe and see if it will keep on.

Re: Help finding replacement part ACST6S
The heatsink was just a test to see if that resolved the issue, it didn't (and yes it wasn't grounded). Got it back to working intermittently after reflowing the solder joints.
Thanks for all suggestions, will look them over in more detail this weekend and see where i can source a replacement from.

Re: Help finding replacement part ACST6S
Thanks, but that's surface mount, i need TO220 or something easy enough to bodge in there.
They call it AC Power Switch in their datasheet. But what would one call something that worked in a similar way? I mean its basically a fancy on/off switch so should be replaceable by something else even if that would have less protection or something? Sorry for my non technical English, im not educated in the ways of electronics...

Help finding replacement part ACST6S
Hi everyone
Need help finding a replacement part for a washing machine that got dumped in my lap from a friend. The problem im pretty sure of, the component in question looks to have run super hot and intermittently doesn't work. Trying to fit a heatsink to it i think i broke it completely.
Tried to find a replacement part but seems that no one carry the exact part. The datasheet link included below. Its a TO220 package and the exact numbers on my part is
ACST67S
GKONW VU
CHN 70S

Re: Need firmware and guide to flash Benq T903
From your description of the problem i would say its more then just firmware acting up here. I would check out the power supply, measure the voltages, check for bad caps / crappy solder joints and so on. The many tries/ long time to turn on suggests its a capacitor problem but might not be.
Either way, fix the hard to turn on problem first. If you're lucky you solved the input problem as well in one go.

Re: Question about clamp meters.
Its an oldschool one with two transformers.
Have checked the magnetrons with ohm meter, the cans are a *insert curse word of choice* to open so i wont bother with opening them.
Found that the diodes are busted so will swap those out. The caps seems fine and the magnetrons are fine (ohm wise). If the magnetrons are busted i will probably just toss it, probably way to expensive considering the age of the microwave....

Re: Question about clamp meters.
Thanks for replies. It was more a curiosity question more then anything else. If you dont ask you dont learn anything
Ill take the components apart and measure them the old fashioned way i guess. Atm its outputing around 800W-1000W inside the microwave, wich is about half of what its rated for so im guessing that either a cap or diode failed.
budm: It has one beefy transformer for each magnetron (2 of them, upper and lower) with one cap on each for boosting the voltage.

Question about clamp meters.
Hi
I have Uni-T UT203 clamp meter i use for troubleshooting things like heating elements and stuff at work. Now a microwave was dropped in my lap and i need to troubleshoot it.
My question is, would it be safe as in not damage the clamp meter if i used the clamp on the High Voltage side after the transformers in the microwave? Not sure what voltage is supposed to be there but quite a lot more then mains voltage. Don't have any meters that would handle that kind of voltage directly but thought it would be a quite good quick check if the clamp meter could tell me if...

Re: How bad are my soldering tools?
Look for the make and model of your unit to make sure its the same, might just look very similar, but i believe the ones i got was these. http://www.electrokit.com/lodspetsar-4-st-for-ap2-vtss4.44882 Not 100% sure though so make a good google investigation before you buy. Need to be the right ones or they wont fit in the iron.
On the other hand the tip you have on there doesn't look in super bad shape, so try the one you have there before going out and buying stuff, maybe try on some spare scrap board and see how it ...

Re: How bad are my soldering tools?
The last iron you posted is the same one i used to use (keep it around as a spare). Tbh its a really good iron for its price. Definitely far from a professional iron but does a descent job. If memory serves me right its a 50W iron, so its a bit low on the power side if you want to do big groudplanes and stuff like that.
Like others said before, do watch out for a worn tip. A good tip does wonders to the solder quality. I think i got a pack of 5 different tips for something like 5$ for that iron.

Re: Samsung model PS50A556S2FXXU TAKES LONG TO TURN ON
As you say it sure could be a bad cap, but might be a bad solderjoint or something else as well. I would recommend taking as detailed pictures as possible of the psu board and post here for people to be able to assist you better.

Re: Toshiba NB200 Weird Problem
What bus is the keyboard connected to? If its a usb keyboard and you have more usb stuff connected internally that might be why it helps to unplug the keyboard. Try disconnecting any bluetooth/3g/wifi or other stuff that is connected to usb bus....

Re: Haier Thermoelectric Cooler - Power Supply Output Anomaly
Those are the ones i meant. Im not an electronics engineer though so the package names and stuff is not my strong sideDid the swapping do any difference at all? Like did it sound in another way or anything?
If i remember tomorrow ill look for the order confirmation on the parts i ordered for it.Last edited by digge; 05-21-2013, 02:14 PM.
