    Vizio E7-E3 Black Screen

I have a Vizio E7-E3 that started with half black screen and no the entire screen is black. The flashlight test shows the menu images.
Since I am working on this 70" by myself, I am wondering if anyone thinks this is a board or LED strip issue or possibly a driver board/ LCD issue?
I have searched for any photos of the back panel removed for this unit but have not found any online.
I have not yet removed the back so I do not know what boards are in this unit.
If it is possible that it is a board issue then I would go ahead with the repair. If it is a LED strip problem, I am not up to taking that on as I would be working in my garage and don't think it is clean enough due to saw dust and the like. I have a very clean garage I just don't think clean enough to keep the diffusers free of dust.
If it could be a board issue, then I would appreciate any help in where to begin testing with my volt meter on this unit.
I know it seems like a lazy question, but it is the size of the TV that makes it difficult for only me working on it.

    Re: Vizio E7-E3 Black Screen

    Hi,
I just fixed a E65u-D3 that I thought had bad leds. Fortunately, I checked the voltage going to the led strips on the power supply board and there was nothing. Since there was no power to the leds it also passed the "flashlight test". The actual problem was a bad diode and not the led strips.
I don't have the power supply board number in my notes but maybe your set uses the same or similar supply.
If you can find a photo of the power supply board for the E65U-D3 the part that I replaced was labeled D103 and was marked SF50JG.

      Re: Vizio E7-E3 Black Screen

      Update: I pulled the back.
The unit has a Power Supply Board, Main Board and I believe a T-Con board
      1) I tested the power supply connector going to the Main board. The LED power is 57v on 4 pins. The voltages are not listed, only LED Out on those 4 Pins and other listed voltages on the power supply board are correct.
2)The connector on the Main board going to what I believe to be the LEDs has Zero voltage on 4 red wire pins pins.
3)From the main board to the T-Con, there is 12v on 4 red wire pins.

I am guessing that this is a main board issue but not 100% sure.

you will likely get better response if you post picture of the back layout so people can see exactly how things are connected along with some good pictures of the boards in question.

Power Supply to Main Board on LED out is 57v on 4 pins
16v on other listed Pins on power supply
Main Board to T-con 12v on 4 pins
Main board to LED 0v on 4 pins

Check the voltage between the big filter capacitors, C1 and C2, negative meter lead on negative leg positive on positive leg, check with tv in standby/plugged in but off, then turn tv on see if it changes, report voltages here, AS ALWAYS BE VERY CAREFUL AS THIS IS THE HIGH VOLTAGE/DEADLY SIDE OF THE BOARD.

Standby on C1 and C2 is 168v on both
Power on on C1 and C2 is 297v on both

                1) Main/LED driver board: I cannot read the P/N as printed on the sticker.
                2) You need to report the Voltage readings of all the pins of the LED connector.
                3) You need to provide straight shot picture of the whole top side of the Main/LED driver board.
                4) Did you see the backlights even flash on for seconds?
                5) What are the Voltage reading of all the pins of the power supply connector that goes to the main board? You report the LED out Voltage but not the control Voltages, I.E. VSNS, AC-DET, PS-ON.

A little strip replacement tute. if it comes to that, notice that the screen is very flimsy, thats why theyre so easy to break. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocyEZ5eKjaU

If it comes to strip replacement, it will have to be done by someone else. My garage is not suitable for that repair. Although it is relatively clean, I do wood working and wouldn't want to risk throwing up any dust on the diffusers.

                          1) The main Board does not have a bar code but the board number is 1P-0165X00-4011

                          2) The LED connector has Zero Volts on All pins going to the what I believe is the LED strips since the wires run under the back frame.

                          3) I will get a full shot of the main board later today

                          4) No backlight flash

                          5) I did check those pins but don't recall what they were and will get those later today.

So even the all the red wires on that LED connector have ZERO Volt with ref to chassis GND? If that is the case, then I will need to see the bottom side of the main board too.
"1P-0165X00-4011" that is blank PCB P/N, there is sticker right next to the LVDS connector that goes to the T-CON board, the numbers printed on that sticker is what we need to identify the PCBA P/N.
BTW, TV model number is E70-E3, correct? Not E7-E3.

In the 185418 photo the LED connector is the top connector going to the panel as shown in the 185826 photo. I checked all pins on that connector and all had zero volts with the unit turned on and grounded to the chassis.

The lower Connector is the harness coming from the PSB and I will get all voltages later today.

Also, when checking the VSNS AC Detect and PS_On, should those be checked with the unit on or Off or when booting the Unit?

The LED connector (the one on the left in the picture), how many red wires and Black wires? I expect to see Voltages on the red wires, if I am correct, all the red wires should be all tied together to feed the + Voltage to the LED strip's Anode.

Did you test all the pins on CN201? test in standby then hit power record both readings for all pins.
