Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
I see from sj pictures the cap does not use a plastic cap so if it's bulged it needs replacing
This digikey link should get you close, then measure it and the lead spacing

If you go to harbor freight, it's the cen-tech 11 function $21.99, usually some coupons at their site and in mailers they send out.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
Taking that 450VDC cap is the LAST thing you will want to do.
1) We have not seen the pictures of YOUR board yet. Your Power supply board P/N????
2) What Voltages do you have on the connectors on the cold side of the power supply.
3) Is the TV plugged into the GFCI out let at this point?
4) Which meter are you using right now? Did you figure out yet how to set the meter properly to read Ohm, DC Voltage, AC Voltage?
5) I am really CONCERNED about you getting electrocuted!Last edited by budm; 05-28-2018, 08:29 PM.Never stop learning

Just be careful to only touch the legs with the meter leads, keep your hands away.Comment

Wouldn't be my first suggestion either, he thought it was bulging, so what do you do with a bulging cap, you replace it VERY CAREFULLY.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
Is this your board? if so it's going to be a little harder checking voltage on the big cap, because the cap is upright and not lying on it's side.

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
If this is the board it is very easy to measure the voltage on that cap. See location C821....
Regarding C820, The cap on this board does not have the plastic cap, so if it IS bulged then it should be replaced.
This what I was referring to regarding the bulged plastic top: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.p...citors.421456/
This happens a lot, and the cap. is fineLast edited by R_J; 05-28-2018, 09:10 PM.Comment

I was actually reading the meter right, I incorrectly assumed that the reading would be close to the uf on the capacitor. I guess I misunderstood. It actually just kept going up infinitly like a good capacitor should.
Currently trying to upload pictures. My board is the PE0546A version.
I feel bad about worrying you never my intention, I am so grateful for everyone too. I will try to get back to this board later in the week. I bet it's that switch. NEVER plugging anything in while I have the top off unless I know I'm safe.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
Yes... I want to learn, but not waste people's time. I am not very good at board troubleshooting. My Grandma was, she used to work on stuff like this back in the day. Old IBM stuff that was real big. I just want to try and find a board that is compatible and won't go haywire on me too.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
The only thing poped on those in the link is the plastic, the caps are fine. But some caps don't use that plastic, Then if you see the bare aluminum bulged they are bad
Now post pictures of your board so we can HELP YOULast edited by R_J; 05-28-2018, 09:45 PM.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
Maybe I should have started out with pictures. I gurssI have been assuming too much lately. This TV used about 3-4 boards in its lifetime. I'm not gonna lie I am seriously thinking about replacing mine but I wanna try a and figure that relay out SR81 I believe. I feel like I've caused a few headaches believe me that was not what I set out to do here. I blame Tampatec he makes it look too easy.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
We should have started with the basics, that's checking voltages at the powersupply connector/s, p860, p810A and P811A, check the second video below, has a demo.Last edited by nomoresonys; 05-29-2018, 03:57 AM.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42rv530u wont power on
When you're comfortable with your meter, measure the voltages on those connectors, will be with meter set to 20 vdc, in this case negative lead is to groung/tv chassis is ok and red lead to pin, will test with tv plugged in, will take reading with tv in standby which is just plugged in, then hit power on and see if anything changes on the meter and report both conditions, need description of pin and expected voltage, here's an example of how to report it:
CNxxxx
1/2 - UD: 14V=14v standby, 14v tv on
3/4 - PWM_BLU: 14V=14v stby, 14v tv on
5/6 - PS_ON: 14V=0v stby, 14v tv on.
7/8 - GND: 15V
9/10 - GND: 0V something to that effect.Last edited by nomoresonys; 05-29-2018, 04:55 AM.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by beetle1303I gotten a Carver CM-1090 amplifier from a friend who has kept it in storage for decades. Opened it up, thick layer of dust cumulated everywhere. Vacuumed it semi-cleaned, and blown off as much as possible the remaining dust. This is a 220V version.
On initial powered up with nothing connected - it works with all the lights and button indicator lit up as pressed, etc. I then powered off, connected a CD player into the CD RCA input and powered it on. It seemed to work for a short while and when I turned the volume up and down to see the the VUs works, the power started to clicked off...3 Photos-

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... - Loading...
