      The switching relay is what I'm betting on is bad. There is no clicking noise when I turn it on. I want to try and check the other components like y'all said to do too. I feel like I can get a better understanding of what I'm doing if I follow your instructions.

        So you are saying all these Voltages below on all those connectors are OK as they should be?

        Can you tell us what those Voltages are?

          Check the videos on bridge rectifier testing, can be tricky if your a novice tester, it's IMPORTANT to set your meter on correct settings, again watch m over til you understand but if you did INDEED get all the correct readings? on powersupply while plugged in, then the BR is probably ok.

            You need to follow testing procedures in order, with meter on correct settings, do the test in buds post #103, he can guide you thru it, IMPORTANT in troubleshooting to test in order, that's how you eliminate things and narrow it down to whats wrong.

              The only way for the relay to turn on (CLICK) is if the +24 volt circuit is working. For the +24 volts to work it needs a min. of +160 volts on F820 fuse. This is so ____ easy to check, On the top of the board, look for the location where C821 would normaly be. place the black probe on the silver rivit near the white square, place the red probe on the fuse F820, check both side of the fuse, IS THERE 160 VOLTS THERE????
              This 160 volts is also REQUIERD for the standby 5.1 to work.
              If there is NO 160 volts on that cap C820/C821 either the main fuse F801 is bad or R850 is open

                Ok, I finally have time to work on the TV again. Would it be acceptable to use a power strip/surge protector to plug the TV into? The closest gfci is in my kitchen, I can use the one in my garage too though. Safety is a lot cheaper than a trip to the hospital... or worse.

                  Checking continuity gives me 258v on both sides of the fuse when I put the black probe on c821 negative. When black probe is on positive I get 0v. Did I have it on the correct setting. Board is unplugged.

                    Ok, can I use a power strip to test with the board on? Or do I have to use a gfci?

                    When I test black probe goes to ground, and red goes to each position? All the while on continuity?

                      Connect all the boards back up on the tv turn the tv on put the multi meter on dc volts put the black probe on a ground a mounting screw etc then use the red probe too test each voltage in turn let us know what the voltages are ie ps-on 5v
                      bl-on 5v etc etc

                        After plugging everything back in, screwing in a ground screw in, setting my meter to 20v I got the following results.

                        POW_DB = 0V
                        POWER_TV = 0V
                        POW_PRO = peaked at 1.7V and trickled down irregularly.
                        POW_SIG = 0V
                        AC_DET = 0V
                        POW_LCD =0V
                        12V_LCD = 0V
                        12V = 0V
                        5V1 = 2.56V and trickled down irregularly.
                        18V_AUDIO = 0V
                        24V = 0V

                        After checking R850 I have concluded that the OL and 1. Reading are equivalent? Correct me if I am wrong? I believe that means that R850 is indeed open.

                        (I am aware that the boards are not matching but I used the principles he described to check Everything that he checked.)

                          I do not understand why you keeping using the word continuity when checking the Voltage. Is the meter set to CONTINUITY mode or what?
                          258V is no way correct since there is no circuit that will generate 258V DC on the main filter cap. Are you sure the meter is good and being used correctly? Right now we are getting so many wrong DATA per your reported readings which is not helping at all, this thread is getting way to long for me and we are not getting any where with it due to wrong data.
                          Buy a new board and try it out if it fixes the problem or not.

                              Based on the instructions on post 106 I checked the fuse with the board unplugged. Because no instructions were given as to what setting to check it on I went with continuity = the arrow pointing to the right with the plus symbol. I also checked with my meter set to 20V = 0.0V 200V = 00.0. I should have included these #'s but that's why I stated what settings I was using. I realize now that I was on the wrong setting. I assumed that people with more experience than me would have seen such a simple error and corrected me. I was wrong and naive to assume anything that I have here.

                              This is a foreign language to me and I don't have ANY experience working with PCB's at all. I tried to be very specific but clearly there has been a lot of information lost in translation on my part.

                              If you want to give up that's fine. I get it. This is probably above the level of someone like me who is not even at the Novice level yet. I am not going to quit. I am going to sit here and teach myself until I get it. At least then I can say that I gained something from this experience, and did not make a complete waste of people's time.

                              Again, thank all of you for your time, I won't post anymore if I have made this thread too long. I can even delete my account if I have broken any rules. I was just trying to keep this TV out of a landfill. I even went out and bought a new multimeter just to make sure that it wasn't my equipment.

                              I did my best to utilize the help that I was given and report the information that I was able to gather. I feel like I have wasted your time and I am truly sorry for that.

                              But allow me to make one last thing CRYSTAL CLEAR. I never meant to upset anyone, and I apologize for obviously doing so. Especially since so many of you have given me time out of your day. Thanks again for everything, I really mean it! Please forgive my incompetence.

                                Last suggestion: Read the meter user manual so you will know what each setting of the meter is used for, you need to know how to use the meter first.
                                Get some fuses and learn to how what they are and how to test them.
                                Get some resistor and learn how to test them and how to read the meter display to know the difference between Ohm, K Ohm, M Ohm and know what it means.
                                Get some batteries and learn how to red the Voltage and know what Volt, mV mean.
                                Working on the circuit board is no difference than working on the other assembly, instead of using wires it uses traces to connect point A to Point B.
                                Fuses, resistors, pr what ever on the circuit board are no difference, it is just mounted on the circuit board, it still function the same.
                                I think the problem right now is that you lack the basic understanding and try to work on something that you have no basic understanding of what each component does. You cannot skip the basic. So learn about what each components are, you have no idea how lucky you are to be able to do research and learn from the WEB.
                                I went and search the user manual for your meter which you could have done, so at least study the manual, see post #68.

                                BTW: Post 106 did ask you to check of there is 160V or not, what other instruction do you need to check the +160V? What do you think the meter should be set to? Read the meter manual?

                                  May I also suggest watching some YouTube videos on how to use a meter. Plenty of good videos that tell you what each setting is for and how to use those settings to perform tests.

                                      Set th fucing meter to 20 VDC, NOT continuity mode, NOT AC mode, NOT diode mode, 20 VDC, in this case you are checking direct current, the tv WILL BE PLUGGED IN, for this measurement, watch the videos.

                                        No it's not your fault, it's mine. I was taking ownership of my mistakes. I was trying to confirm my understanding as I thought what I was doing was correct but I was dead wrong. I was also trying to be cautious and not hurt myself or the electrical components themselves. I got the terms mixed up, and the settings on my meter too. I've never blamed anyone for my mistakes and I am never going to.

                                        Look, I was using an older style meter that was different than the ones being used in the instructional videos. Plus, you are right, I do not have a good understanding of how to test this stuff. This whole process is new to me, I have said this multiple times now.

                                        I was trying to run when I could barely crawl. You also made a point about me getting hurt and I was being extra cautious. I should have gotten a book like PCB'S for
                                        Dummies, or something like that before I even tried to ask questions.

                                          I wish I would have seen this sooner. With all the people commenting and having to spend time away from this I completely missed this. Ugh, this would have made everything so much easier. This answers pretty much all the questions I was trying to figure out on my own.
