You can take the suspected filter capacitor out of circuit and test it, I think you said your meter can test capacitance correct?

Yes I believe so C825 and D820? They run at 598 ohms.

Which one is that? The big 450 uf? AC it goes 553 and then 1312 ohms then it won't read at all. Dc = 713 ohms and then 1256 ohms and shuts off... I think I'm doing something wrong. I'm on the capacitance setting with the arrow and line, and red is on + black on negative.

Yes, the arrow that points to the line? Which one is the filter capacitor?

with power OFF, check the rsistance of the fuses F820 & F840.
If you feel comfortable working on this with power applied...
Measure the DC voltage accross C820 (220uf/450v) If there IS voltage is it 160v or closer to 400v?
Keeping your negative probe on the (-) of C820, check the voltage on both sides of the fuses, F820 & F840. IS there voltage on both sides of these fuses
Ugh, I just realized that my Simpson meter says 1 and nothing else when testing the resistor at R850. It gives me no reading. However, on my harbor freight multimeter it says 0. Not just 1.

I will try one more time. R850 should check just like a piece of wire, zero, short, not open.
If it measures 0 or 1 or 2 ohms it is good!

with the board in the tv do you here the relay click when you plug the tv in?

Ok, zero it is then. No I do not. I thought it might but it never has.

I agree with budm. I could have you check some things with power applied but you might hurt yourself or the power supply.

Yes that manual was very helpful, thanks for sending it learned a few things from it. For continuity, it on (obviously) I have the ohms option pushed in along with the 2K button. AC gives me the tone, but only momentarily on this component I am not sure why. Both of my meters give me inconsistent readings and then nothing back to 1. Should I have it plugged into the gfci? If I am supposed to I feel really dense right now.

That's understandable, I'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong with my meters. I'm doing it just like the Tampa Tech guy on YouTube and his board is not powered up.

I am always reluctant to blame my equipment as I can generally account for my mistakes. However, I've read the manual and I'm still coming up short. I've worked on all kinds of equipment in the past from power tools to lawnmowers, washing machines dryers, and cars/trucks. This is just not computing for me. I would never want to try any of y'all's patience and I am really grateful for getting this far. I feel like I'm almost there though. The switch component theory is pretty convincing to me. But I can't get a reading no matter how I position my probes on said component. The component at C820 has me stumped. I am trying to which it off but there's these weird metal petals holding it on under the solder.

My probes read zero when I touch them BTW I'm not sure if I have ever mentioned that.

Yes, we used to start Dad's truck like that. He would never let me do it though, and he always said grandma's radio was just as dangerous so I don't play with electricity. I have not had it hooked up in 24hrs. Is that not long enough, for the sake of safety? Probably closer to 36 by now.

Yes I've watched her. Maybe I need to buy a Fluke or take a trip to Harbor Freight. I don't have alligator clamps, and my components are all soldered to the board.

I am leaning on the side of it not bulging. My multimeters keep giving me readings that flash and disappear quickly when I go red to + and black to -. Same if I switch them.I am so confused at this point.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                            Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                            Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Carver CM-1090 - Power relay clicking on & off, then fuse blown after 20-30 seconds of power cycling.

I gotten a Carver CM-1090 amplifier from a friend who has kept it in storage for decades. Opened it up, thick layer of dust cumulated everywhere. Vacuumed it semi-cleaned, and blown off as much as possible the remaining dust. This is a 220V version.

On initial powered up with nothing connected - it works with all the lights and button indicator lit up as pressed, etc. I then powered off, connected a CD player into the CD RCA input and powered it on. It seemed to work for a short while and when I turned the volume up and down to see the the VUs works, the power started to clicked off...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply

I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
