TCON did it! The board I recieved was different than the board pictured in the auction (had a different serial in the box) but solved it none the less.

For future reference, if anyone encounters the 14 blink problem on the 52W4100, and quite likely the other sizes (40W4100, 46W4100), Replace the TCON board.

Coincidentally (sort of miraculously, really), I found the exact same TV in mint condition in a dumpster where I was grabbing some boxes I needed. It has very occasional tab bond issues. The bottom third of the image scrolls sometimes, but I watched it for 4 hours and only saw it do so for 3 or 4 minutes. I'm going to try some compression tape across the ribbons at some point when I have tome to take it apart, but I'm very happy with the quality of the TV. Unlike other flatscreens I've seen, this one has fantastic and loud sound.

Incidentally, for anyone with this problem, there is a pico fuse on the TCON board that had been shorted. I don't know why I didn't notice this beforehand. Test that, and if it's shot, you are fairly certain to fix your problem by replacing the board. If you can figure out which component is shorting, please share.

wups, something popped up. After only a few hours of watching this thing, The left half of the screen has become darker. It's not a backlight thing, it's a panel thing as the dark half is pixel sharp to the light half. Problem seems to be intermittent and perhaps worsen the longer the TV is on. TCON, tabs, or main? Next time I'm home I'll fiddle with some connections and make better observations.

any thoughts before I open this thing back up (for the 1 millionth time)? I'm thinking TCON or TCON to panel ribbons.

Did you clean up the ribbon cable and connector between the panel and T-con and LVDS cable?

A little readjustment worked, but for good measure, I took the ribbons out, cleaned them with alcohol and put them snugly back in there. Thanks all! Hopefully, I won't have to go back in there for a LONG time. I'm tired of taking the 8 billion screws off the back of the case. On to some other projects!

just curious if the sticker with the serial number was in the lower right corner under "52" or if it was under "46" (top middle) or next to "40" (top left)

it appears that the sony part numbers 1-857-130-11 is for 40inch 1-857-131-11 is for the 46 in 1-857-132-11 is for 52 inch and they put the sticker in the respective spots

they all share 404652ASNC6LV3.7, im trying to figure out if they are interchangeable meaning if you got a board from a 46 or 40 inch and it solved the issue

someone earlier in the thread said they interchanged boards, i would like to confirm and elaborate on this, i used a 46" board in a 52" TV but you do have to make sure Voltage printed on the board is the same thanks guys!!

I've got a 52W4100 with 13 blinks. Bulbs are ok (i loosened the bulb holders a smidge so i could see each one fire up). Removed connectors from TCon - no change. Checked test points on the inverters and got way crazy readings - Almost all of them shoot up to between 16-24VAC when the bulbs try to fire up. Only the 3rd pin down on the 4th one down from the top (goes to the 2nd pin down on the 5th transformer) is different - it reads 0V (on both the Left and Right sides). All the transformers have continuity. Something hisses when the bulbs fire up on the LU inverter board (I can't pinpoint where the noise is coming from). I replaced all 4 inverter boards with known working ones - no change. There are no blown caps visible on any boards. From the troubleshooting directions posted above - i noticed that the CN1410 it states up there is actually CN1401 on my TV. BAL_ERR starts at 0V and goes up to 2V when the bulbs try to fire. INV_ERR starts at 12V and drops to 0V when the bulbs try to fire. CN6706 pins 6 and 7 Start at 12V and drop to 0V when the bulbs try to fire. So far nothing i have done has changed anything. Still get 13 blinks... Any tips or suggested other troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I had a KDL 46W5500 with similar symptoms.
Brief period on, some audio, no backlight, no pixels moving upon shining a torch, 12v ok, abort with 14 blink error code.
Most of the previous monitor devices that I encountered needed re-capping, however most of the caps in this Sony were solid and the wet cans looked ok.
I carefully pondered this thread and a couple of related videos.

I reached the conclusion that a TCON replacment was likely needed, but wanted to confirm backlight operation before placing an order.
After removing the 5 pin connector including BACKLIGHT, I was able to pull up that line on the power board via a 470k resistor to 12v and was rewarded with full backlight operation and INV_ERR = 0, BAL_ERR = 0.

I would not have otherwise so readily mustered the confidence to order a new TCON, via ebay from a Shanghai vendor. It worked fine.

snme: Interested in your post, as I have a KDL 40W4100 with same symptoms as yours--primarily 1) Click on/SONY lights up, 2) no Backlight, 3) clicks OFF with 14 blink error code.

I'd like to do the same test you did for the Backlight, before purchasing a TCON online.
Would you mind clarifying a bit what steps you took to test the backlight? I am new to this, and would benefit from some additional description of the steps for that test.
