sammy LCD ln40b530p7f standby light on, but no power
Hey I was given this TV and am trying to figure out which board is bad. It only has the standby light on and does not respond at all to any button. I do not have the remote for it. Any thoughts is much appreciated. Thanks

update i found a similar board for a different model, looks exactly the same just a couple things are different, i decided to use the replacement as a guide to repairing the old one, i started at the plug and worked my way though only checking for continuity that lead to a shorted mosfet (EY43 if anyone cares) ordered a couple new ones well see how that works out thanks peopleLeave a comment:

that is a mosfet, this is what happens multi meter set to 200k ohms
- probe set on the source + on gate = meter shows 9.9
- on source + on drain ohms climb to about 168 then shows open then stays open when checked a few min later flashes anywhere from 168 to 192 then shows open
- on gate + on drain same as above
i already downloaded both those links, the service manual doesnt go into detail on the PSU board and the other schematic, the board is too different

Hey guys (and gals if any ) got this tv no power at all opened it up and circled cap was blown and left some soot on the board, replaced it and the fuse and as soon as i plug it in it just blows the fuse. I checked resistance at the plug and it shows starts at 5M ohms and climbs to 14.5M ohms and holds does that mean nothing is shorted?
I searched for service manual but i nothing for this exact model (board is PLHL-T828A)
any ideas which direction to go next ? Thanks -

so i got the TV to display random moving lines with some color only on one side of the screen by disconnecting the other side, the side that displayed something was the windex effected side
does this give any clue on the part that is at fault? would i be wasting $60 on a t-con board by giving it a shot?Leave a comment:

just an update i was able to update the firmware (blind) and now i can get the audio to play (only HDMI tested) but still no video it seems like the TV is working as normal besides displaying the video, the chip on the t-con board get pretty warm
i also attached the service manual, for future reference for anyone searching, and it seems like theres no real way of testing, just replace and if it doesnt work replace the next board and so on

if the t-con didnt get wet could it still have shorted out from the other board getting wet?

i did this no change
YES this is the case i found blue residue on the board that is hard connected to the actual display, it was on one a small area and some of the connector
So i pretty much took the whole TV apart and cleaned up all the residue and the connector still same result and again its the whole screen not just one side, i have inspected the t-con nothing looks obviously bad and the 2 fuses are continuous

this one with the suffix AD wasnt the easiest to find but i think he has another and i have seen a few others on the bay site ill see if he want to toss some money back my way
so once i started testing the boards trying to narrow down which baord needed to be replaced, the TV just started working im guessing a reseat of the ribbon did it
but now i am getting a buzzing from the SS but ONLY when there is video or something being displayed if the screen is BLACK i dont hear it or its very low, there might alos be buzzing...Last edited by smai; 02-11-2014, 04:33 PM.Leave a comment:

got a new A board plugged it in, now 7 blinks points to the SU SD board
did the jumper test, powered on, no blinks so that clears the SC board
i cant seem to find a way diagnosis just the su or just sd board any tips?
and are the SD/SU boards interchangeable between models or different versions of the same tv i need TNPA5340 but found TNPA5340AK they have different pany part numbers

i just briefly talked to the previous owner they said they cleaned it with windex and it happend.... i dont think that would do anything unless you doused it in windex

when the unit is powered on i will get the sound of static (see video) OR the sound of analog tv with bad reception kind of static for about 5 seconds then blank screen, some buttons make noises some dont, cant change inputs, cant bring up any menus, its just a black lit screen.. (actually now that i think of it, when i 1st plugged it in it showed static like channel 3 on analog but it faded to black and now is only)
the video attached however is me "resetting" the tv by holding the up arrow on the remote and pressing the power button strange result
