    Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

    Did you read POST #56?
Repeat again, look at your meter display, is it 96.3V OR 96.3mV? NO WAY IT CAN BE 96V without the TV blowing up.
    Bad DATA = Bad troubleshooting.
Take the picture of your meter showing 96.3V.

Yes, I did read that post. Hence, I tried to be as detailed and clear in my answer as possible. I do now have a photo of the multimeter at 96.3. You can also see in it that the meter is set on DC. It has only 4 settings. You will simply have to trust that the positive probe is on pin 12. All I need to know is how to upload the photo. I've no clue how to do it. Thanks.

96.3mV ( or 0.963V) as I suspected as you can see on the screen of your meter. Not 96.3V!

              Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

Having reread my posts I clearly did not claim it was 96.3V. (That to me is AC.) I set the dial to DCV & explained that I did not change the dial while testing all the pins. And I did not claim it was not mV as I have absolutely no clue what mV is. I didn't join this thread to be right or wrong, I came for help.

As stated in my first post "From all that I've read I'm thinking my power card is working and the problem lies in my main board. Are there any DVs I can test on the main board to confirm it is the problem?" Or can anybody here confirm or tell me how to confirm that the main board is indeed the one that is broken? Thanks.

                Your Post #55:
I took the readings again of the DCVs.

                Pin Off On
                1
                2 5.22 5.22
                3 5.22 5.22
                4 4.7 4.7
                5 24.6 24.6
                6 24.6 24.6
                7 GND
                8 GND
                9 GND
                10 12.37 12.3
                11 12.36 12.3
                12 96.3 47
                13 57.7 30

So I am not going to argue with you at this point, we just want to get the correct DATA, bad DATA does not help. Always show what is being display on the meter.
Your main board is not sending out the command signals.

                    Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

The main board seems to be out of stock everywhere I click. All that I can find is repair kits containing 4 eeproms.

Is there a way I can test the eeproms on the main board to determine if, indeed, one or all are the source of my problem?

                      Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

you can freeze the eeprom chips to normally get them to work if they are failing.

have you checked the voltage regulators?

Freeze eeproms? How does one do that?

How do I check the voltage regulators and where are they?

                        Thank you!!!!!

                          Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

i am only a hobbyist, just one that spends way too much time playing with these things. bud is the true pro here. i'm always learning something from him.

i have marked out your regulators, but there could be others under the metal cover or underneath on the under side of the board.
there is probably only one that has any voltage on it at this point, but we need to know.

list your findings with the top row of writing on each ic and board placement, then measure from the side that has the 3 legs from left to right. make sure you list if it is v or mv. vital information.

                          eg.
                          ic 201
                          dg117-adj
                          1.25v
                          2.46v
                          5.01v

the easiest way to freeze a component is just with a can of air duster, turn it upside down and spray the component. wait a few seconds and hit it again. it will literally freeze as you are hitting it with a refrigerant. always a several seconds for it to truly freeze the component internally.

If "freezing" the eeproms doesn't work, try heating them up with a hair dryer. I've seen it work both ways.

I have to use a magnifying glass to see these tiny things so I already pulled the main board off the back of the TV & probably, therefore, I won't get any kind of volts. A lot of what you guys are offering is going over my head. I'm trying to learn and trouble shoot for myself as Vizio was totally useless. They want me to buy a new Vizio; this one didn't last a full 4 years.

Those items you circled, attainteddragon, look like items Tampatec tried to show how to test in his youtube "How to check fuses, diodes, transistors, voltage regulators." If yes then can I test these using other settings on my multimeter? Starting from the top right ics that you circled and moving counter clockwise, the 1st is U702, then U703, then U701, and the last on the bottom is U102. Using the + and 1 probes can I find the culprit?

You will need to reinstall board and test under power. The eeprom looks to be 8 pin ic just above the metal shield with the white dot. It probably has a 24 or 25 in part number. Freeze it and then try to turn on tv
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

You can use canned air duster up side down as cooling spray. That is what I use.

you have to test regulators with power applied as they normally tend to go slightly out of tolerance.
