  • Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

I've received the repair kit from shopjimmy.com with 4 caps in it. Because sj.com would not offer before purchase the caps to be replaced nor the PNs of the caps to be used for the replacement, I'm offering that info for the next person needing help. I've noted each in the photo I will upload. I've ID'ed the caps to be replaced along with the PNs of the replacement caps in red except the cap to replace U409 is in purple as it is quite lengthy. For the record they are:
    U705: 0272 G5676,
    U409: MXIC MX 25L6445E M2I-10G 3T862100 L16755,...

No, not yet. I still need to learn about how to ID the bum part. Why? Because I just might want to learn how to do it myself. I'm thinking shopjimmy does not provide until AFTER the sale the P/Ns of the 4 ICs it sells because those ICs could be purchased elsewhere for pennies. If can can ID which ICs don't work then I'd have more leverage with a repair shop where, rather than blindly asking that they find and fix it, I tell them exactly what I need done. I know this is a simple problem with a simple fix. I just want to uncover it all.

Thanks, budm. Finding somebody to replace the bum part is not a problem. IDing the bum part is my goal. Indeed, the kit appears to address the needed fix but I still want to ID the bum IC. Looking at the voltages I found in my tests it looks to my untrained eyes that eeprom U705 may be the bum IC. Can anybody confirm?

With all due respect, budm, you may be an electronics wizard, but your command of English is lacking to the degree that what you write is not intelligible. Your sentences are incomplete and incomprehensible.

NOT A COMPREHENSIBLE SENTENCE: Post 89 #5 "5) Or get EEPROM (u409? or U403? due to more than one version of the main board) from shopjimmy or main board repair kit.
NOT A COMPREHENSIBLE SENTENCE: Go to shopjimmy .com and type in your TV model number and then which main board you have, shopjimmy shows you how to get the correct...

I'm sorry, dskall, you feel that way. It seems the underlying assumption by most participants here is that I understand everything said and how to execute on all suggestions given. I don't. I need an "ICs for Dummies" manual. So I've watched oodles of videos, including, budm, the one you linked re the Vizio e320-A0.

Of all the videos I've watched ONLY 2 have either shown or mentioned to what the black probe should be connected to ground. One said "on the main board near the ic being tested" the other simply grounded...

So, where can I go for help? Will somebody answer my questions re how to test or tell me about another online place that can?"

  • Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

From watching youtube videos by repair guys, Vizios have a lot of problems similar to mine. One vidio specifically addressed my problem but on the E320-A0; mine is the -A1 which is a bit more detailed. The repair guy tested an eight-pin eeprom similar to the one pointed out by dskall in post #76.

Assuming the black probe should be grounded via something on the pcb itself, like a screw, I tested each of the 8 pins and some were around 3.3 dcvs and some were mVs and some were 0 whatever. So I am guessing that eeprom may have problem. ...

I sprayed until it got nice and frosty, then pressed the on button more than once. The same thing happened that has been happening for the past several days...nothing. So now do I test the ics? If yes I need instructions please and thanks.

I've reinstalled the main board. The PN of the little 8 pin eeprom with the white dot does begin with 25. So I have 5 items to test. How to test each and what I am looking for is not clear to me. Can anybody please instruct me?

Any suggestions where to purchase a can of freezing spray? A local type store rather than over the internet?

  • Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

I have to use a magnifying glass to see these tiny things so I already pulled the main board off the back of the TV & probably, therefore, I won't get any kind of volts. A lot of what you guys are offering is going over my head. I'm trying to learn and trouble shoot for myself as Vizio was totally useless. They want me to buy a new Vizio; this one didn't last a full 4 years.

Those items you circled, attainteddragon, look like items Tampatec tried to show how to test in his youtube "How to check fuses, diodes, transistors, voltage...

Thank you, attainteddragon, for responding. I willingly admit I am not an electrician or anything related. I am a mathematician, a DYI type, and a person not afraid to do my own fixes.

I'm here to learn from you experts on this forum.

Freeze eeproms? How does one do that?

How do I check the voltage regulators and where are they?

    Thank you!!!!!

The main board seems to be out of stock everywhere I click. All that I can find is repair kits containing 4 eeproms.

Is there a way I can test the eeproms on the main board to determine if, indeed, one or all are the source of my problem?

  • Re: vizio E320-A1 not working

Having reread my posts I clearly did not claim it was 96.3V. (That to me is AC.) I set the dial to DCV & explained that I did not change the dial while testing all the pins. And I did not claim it was not mV as I have absolutely no clue what mV is. I didn't join this thread to be right or wrong, I came for help.

As stated in my first post "From all that I've read I'm thinking my power card is working and the problem lies in my main board. Are there any DVs I can test on the main board to confirm it is the problem?" Or can...

Yes, I did read that post. Hence, I tried to be as detailed and clear in my answer as possible. I do now have a photo of the multimeter at 96.3. You can also see in it that the meter is set on DC. It has only 4 settings. You will simply have to trust that the positive probe is on pin 12. All I need to know is how to upload the photo. I've no clue how to do it. Thanks.
