    Vizio E470VLE eeprom?

I have one of these that apparently has a common problem. Dead with orange light only.

I see plastered everywhere that people have a repair service for these things, but the root cause and actual fix is still elusive. I seen one auction on ebay stating that if any components were bad or blown that it wouldnt be repairable.

That automatically struck me as software issue. So i went hunting around for the firmware and absolutely cannot find it. Vizio service was no help either, they said they dont have service manuals for thier TVs and that the firmware cannot be reflashed (yea right).

Anyone know what the actual fix is, and if its firmware, where do i find it? i would have to build an SPI flash programmer as the onboad flash eeprom is SPI.

Do you have to replace the eeprom? or can i just pull the original and just reprogram it. Where can i get the actual binary file?

Do it! Everybody could come to you for an EEPROM.

Well the problem is, I need the bin file, and that means i would be stuck spending $200 for another board just to get it and be stuck with a spare board. And actually its not an eeprom, its an SPI flash memory IC.

Just buy another TV from walmart/sam's club and then return it when you are done with getting the file. Leave all the protective plastic on and everything!

Tell them you couldn't get your original NES to work with it and you want your money back.

Or it was too big for your shed.
Do NOT touch heatsinks when testing for voltages as they may be LIVE!

I contacted the guy on ebay who was selling the eeprom for a different model, he never responded... Someone should definetely figure this out how many Vizio main boards do you think have been replaced for this!?!

I also contacted Vizio about a TV that just had orange logo LED and they refused to send out their eeprom/firmware kit and claimed it was a hardware issue, which may very well be, but it would be nice to know for sure first.. Everytime I get a Vizio it seems main board related..

I have found this website selling TV parts and some Vizio firmware.
              They all $25 each

I brought the E470VL eeprom and now my HDTV is working great, I check voltages and re-flow a good portion of the main board and I found nothing wrong. the replacement eeprom fix the problem.

Thanks ecking767, I have a E470VL, dead with orange logo. I already ordered and received another main board but haven't put it in yet. I just ordered the eeprom so I will see what happens..

I fixed a Vizio 42VWLHD10A, Had Orange Logo Light Only and would not power on, the problem was low outout voltage on adjustable voltage regulator U7 (AMC1117) located on the mainboard, I replaced it and the set powered on and works fine, but being a different model and main board yours could be the eeprom.

These Vizio model: E320VL,E321VL,E371VL,E420VO, E421VL,E470VL,and E470VLE (and more) are known for bad eeprom. I have fix many of the Vizio LCD TV from the list with this problem. Sometime I will find poor solder joints. I rarely found bad voltage regulators

I bought a new Vizio a few years ago it's Model: E420VO, It has been working fine, now I know what to look for if it does fail, what are the symptoms when the eeprom fails or has bad solder connections?

The 'E' or economy series seem to be bad TV's, see so many people here and on the web are having problem with EEPROM, may be Vizio should have recalled them.

I received a new main board for this set that just had orange vizio logo LED but would not turn on, and it worked. Gonna try a new eeprom, which just arrived, on old board and see what happens. Unfortunately I was messing around with the old board swapping components first so Im not going to be 100% if that was problem..

Well installed new EEPROM and did not fix, still had orange Vizio logo and would not turn on.. Oh well worth a try. A new main board did fix tho..

Man, so EEPROM may or may not fix the problem, I did not run into this E series VIZIO yet, but I have a feelings I will be see quite a lot of them at the recycle place soon.

My guess was a main video processing IC failure with a power surge according to seller.. I had all voltages present when just plugged in to AC, even before hitting power button yet just had orange logo.. I will continue to seek out these Vizios out of curiousity..

Not sure what represents the "E" series, mine was a E470VL, not the E470VLE.

Wait you're saying you re-flowed a good portion of the main board Meaning what? re-flowed solder connections with a heat gun? did the replacement of the eeprom fix the problem? or was it the re-flow or both?

Before I replaced the eeprom chip, I will check out: fuses, LDOs and voltages regulators, I resolder places like power connector, the main processor crystral, caps, and re-flow area around the main board with a hot air gun the control off & on function.

if replacing the eeprom doesn't fix the problem,Then I will reflow the main process also with the ram memory chip.

I have came across all type of problems with Vizio E serie main board: bad eeprom, bad solder joints, poor soldering of the ram memory or the main processor and burn out processors.

We have most of the Vizio EEprom bin files if anyone needs them and, we have found that the Same exact Bin file will work for a lot of models. They can be re-flashed right in circuit using a SOIC8 adapter and, EEprom writer. which are relatively cheap.

After replacing the EEPROM on a E371VL, I still didn't have picture, but at least the TV turned on and I had sound. Initially, it was getting stuck on the Vizio logo on the screen.
                                        I have found a MUR460 bad diode.
