I am not sure what it is, but I accidentally melted the plastic on this piece and I need to order another.

It has on it: MPX-X2 GMF
250v~ / 275~

It's a Dell E228WFPC power board, number: 715G2594-1-4

It is just X2 (across the line and Neutral for noise filter), the monitor will function without it. You can get it from Digikey: Panasonic ECQUL series, there should be more numbers on it for the Value.

Ok, soldered new caps on power board, still doesn't work.
I used the same values as old caps, Panasonic brand, made sure negative lead to negative side, made sure the lead and board had a good solder joint. Picture comes on for a few seconds, and right off again.

Any thoughts?

We need more details such as which caps, all the caps are replaced? Good pictures of the board will helps a lot, make sure to use 'GO ADVANCED' and upload the pictures.
You may have bad lamp assembly, bad transformer, power supply, inverter circuits problem.

What was the initial fault with your Dell? is it the same as the title states 'Goes dim after 10 minutes not 2 seconds' or was it going dim after 2 seconds before you changed the caps?

Bringing this thread back on topic, I was finally able to get to replacing this cap tonight, and I'm 5 minutes into burn testing this monitor now.

I stopped by the local Rat Shack and they didn't have any ceramic caps in 1uf flavor, but they did have a couple of tantalum ones. So, I used one of those.

I'm going to give this monitor a good burn test tonight, and as long as the inverter board holds up, I'll call this repair done.

Since the Tantalum is more likely to be polarized and the ceramic one is not, you should make sure the polarity is correct by using the meter to see which is positive and negative on the board.

And...it went dim again after 10 minutes.

I'm getting very frustrated here.

I've already tried two different inverter boards, and the monitor acts the same way with both inverter boards.

I've already tried my LCD panel in a known working sister monitor, and it works just fine with a known working monitor.

I've tried the logic board from two different monitors, and no change in behavior.

I'm about to throw in the towel here.

Hi - How about trying the external heat again - maybe another cap with the same problem. Oh and just to be sure make certain the monitor power save
mode is not kicking in. This may have been asked and answered but after it has has gone dim does it come back on straight away when you switch off and back on. When you do that does it still take 10 mins to go off or is it quicker because its warm. If you just leave it dim does it stay dim or if left long enough does it come back on.

I don't believe it's the power save. The monitor will turn back on again after going dim, but it won't stay on for very long. Usually 10-15 secs, then 5-10 secs, then pretty much 2 seconds to black consistently after that.

All of the symptoms point to overheating, but I can't seem to pinpoint it. Heating the board before turning it on doesn't seem to consistently replicate the issue.

In another development, I just won an auction today on feeBay for a clone of this monitor for $25. The screen has pressure marks, but the monitor is working. I'm going to wait until it arrives, swap in my panel, and see how it goes.

Just stop, cool down and think. You have a working monitor with a bad screen and a good LCD with bad boards. Just swap the boards from the good monitor with the ones from the bad board monitor and everything should be cool so to speak. Make sense, if not PM me and I will take them off your hands for the cost of shipping.

Hey guys. I know this is old, but hopefully someone can steer me towards the right direction. I naively bought this monitor from a Goodwill Outlet Store since my Samsung LCD died. I plugged it in and the boot diagnostic graphic showed and disappeared after 2 secs. I thought this was normal until I plugged in via both vga and dvi onto my computer and same thing: 2 seconds of my desktop each time I power on. Picture looks great as long as it lasts. I had poor lighting so I'm not sure if the backlight just turns off, and of course, after reading about bad caps, I couldn't help myself but to rip apart the monitor. Looked at least 5 times at both boards and caps don't look bad. I know the recommendation for my symptom is to recap as it's not reflective of the title. I probably will try this later, but I read about C806, and wondering if this was known to help the 2 second problem as well. My guess is NO because 2 seconds isn't long enough to raise the temperature passed the tolerance of a faulty cap at C806, but I'm a noob at soldering so I want to try the easiest fix first. I'm highly confident I can recap my main LCD, so if I don't get any new info, I'll prob recycle it. Can't really provide any more details other than pictures, but like I said, everything pretty much looks new when opened it, including the super tiny C806 ceramic cap.

Well, glad to say I fixed my Samsung Took a while, but got it done. As for the Dell, because from what I read, seemed like the resister fix was for me, and not C806, I tried it. It works, but the left side like another user gradually gets dark, and C806 seems to fix this. Not sure if I should remove the resistor, but I'll be ordering the part for C806. At least I know that C806 seems to fix MOST of this Dell's model despite symptoms.

This thread helped with my E228WFP repair but is missing a clear success report, so here goes.

For me, the fix was C806 replacement. I used a 1uF 25V ceramic surface mount cap.

History:
1. Monitor had 2 seconds to black problem.
2. Soldered thru hole cap on top of C806 - no change.
3. Although caps had no visual defects, did full recap.
4. With thru hole cap still on C806, took a little longer, but still went black.
5. Removed thru hole cap and smt cap and replaced with new smt cap
6. Like new for months now.

Notes on recap: One cap is directly under stand attach screw and stock height is VERY critical. Ask me how I know

Thank you all for your help, I heated up C806 with a rework heat gun and shuffled it around with some tweezers and put it back into place, backlights no longer exhibit the 2 second power off problem, monitor fixed

Seems to have been a cold solder joint, or something of the like?
