• Re: My ATA PAP2T-NA Adapter Bricked, I want to fix

I have repaired a pap2 but it is a different revision than yours. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29433

Mine had a bad transistor that I found by plugging the board in and touching components one at a time till I found one that was hot to the touch. Using an ohm meter I confirmed the failed component. See my thread for the readings.Re: My ATA PAP2T-NA Adapter Bricked,...?t=29433

• Re: Dell E228WFPC goes dim after 10 minutes, not 2 seconds

This thread helped with my E228WFP repair but is missing a clear success report, so here goes.

For me, the fix was C806 replacement. I used a 1uF 25V ceramic surface mount cap.

History:
1. Monitor had 2 seconds to black problem.
2. Soldered thru hole cap on top of C806 - no change.
3. Although caps had no visual defects, did full recap.
4. With thru hole cap still on C806, took a little longer, but still went black.
5. Removed thru hole cap and smt cap and...

• Re: Linksys PAP2 - Loud Static

I decided to only replace the caps and Q156. After initial power up static was gone and it seemed to work well. Then I picked up the board and some static returned.

Rats! I must have missed something or the other transistor might have a problem. I thought about it a while and remembered how hot the board was because of the shorted transistor. I hoped it was just a cracked solder joint or two from the heat so I touched the iron to nearby joints and rechecked my work for stray solder/whiskers. Not sure which it was, but now it has been...

• Re: Compaq Evo N410c overhaul

Back when my N410c was still being used daily, I had the battery professionally rebuilt. It never worked properly. Despite multiple calibration attempts it never fully used all the new capacity. All the info I found at the time suggested it was because the eeprom did need to be reset. I tried to find the links I had but none of them worked and they're probably outdated anyway.

I still have multiple batts and the machine in my junk box, so please keep reporting your efforts ...

• Linksys PAP2 - Loud Static

Since I found only one other PAP2 thread with no pics I thought I would add one for the record.

Linksys PAP2 VOIP adapter had dialtone but with loud static noise. All caps are Teapo execept the two 27uFx100v which are Capxon. LOC pic has datasheet info if you can read my scratches. OHMS pic has readings to ground at top left screw hole in ohms. The readings are rounded a little but should still be usable.

Started with visual inspection - all caps/everything looked normal to me. Plugged in power supply and felt for hotspots and found one! Started measuring ohms and...

• Re: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB won't even spin

Before chucking it, I would try putting it in a sealed plastic bag (or two) and leaving it in the freezer overnight.

This is a technique I heard sometimes works but haven't tried myself so YMMV...
