    Data recovery services question

Hi guys I'm wondering how data recovery services work exactly in terms of privacy.

If you for example hand over your dead phone to a small business hoping they can retrieve data, are you entrusting that they won't save your pictures etc for themselves if they can retrieve them?

Is there an unspoken law about that or if you're simply desperate to get all that data back you don't care if that does happen?

    Of course you are.
No unspoken law. It's what's separates the professionals from the cowboys.

      Re: Data recovery services question

Data recovery is essentially unregulated. The fact that there are NO academic requirements or official accreditation standards should tell you what kind of people this business attracts. Everything is primarily a matter of trust.

        Re: Data recovery services question

I thought most reputable companies do write up an agreement that they won't collect data from your devices that are trying to be recovered. Perhaps you can get them to sign such, and sue them for breach of contract.

Best is that you have backups and you will never need these recovery services, and answering the question to "Will It Blend?" is sufficient to make sure your data is safe.

The best approach on those matters is to contact the harddisk manufacturer . They'll provide you with one or two entrusted companies . Usually , they include their reply by a pre-warning against reverse engineering , especially if you ask them technical infos .

Iphone was given as an example , but the issue is about recovering data integrity and it apply on all kinds .

Maybe this is actually a practical matter which is why I was trying to ascertain the device in question.

ALL the professional data recovery tools are either reverse engineered or based on stolen or leaked information. The fact that some HDD companies refer you to their "partners" is hypocritical since these "partners" all use tools created by Russian or Chinese hackers. Furthermore, there is no real partnership since there is no exchange of real, inside technical information, nor do the HDD manufacturers provide any spare parts. In fact spare parts are sourced through the second hand market, or by cannibalising new drives. Just imagine if your car dealer had to rely on wrecking yards for parts, or third party workshop manuals, or Chinese diagnostic equipment.

As for accreditation, imagine you wanted to become a surgeon. What do you do? Well, if you follow the approach of a data recovery professional, you would collect a bunch of cadavers and practice on them until you decided that you were good enough. Then you would hang out your shingle and start cutting into real bodies. There is no AMA in data recovery, no text books, no consultations between experts and interns. It's just open slather.

I understand your point of view , but i cannot accept it the way you put it . Today , the net is a jungle and you are the prey . Maybe You , you can defend yourself as highly experienced and can choose a safe path , but that doesn't apply on common people , or let's say customers . Everyday i see people hacked , phished , abused stolen and of course frustrated as they didn't choose the right path . Actually , most of my business and i believe yours too is fixing after stupid customers .

Here , the word Trust emerge heavily , Trust is what people want , and Trust can only be obtained on the net within the well known companies , with a high reputation of credibility and integrity . When those companies commit a mistake , it's very easy to sue and pursuit them (USA high court federal case against HP-Nvidia is one example ) and this concept is international , well established and reliable .

It was a general question using iPhone as an example as I've seen services for iPhones being offered.

Hello, A customer told us that there is a data recovery company that can by pass IMac pro 2020 with t2 chipset GPU to get their data back, I am wondering if that is possible. GPU is shorted and Imac wont boot at all. I informed customers that data are almost impossible to be retrived, and they are upset and think we are BS them. Of course being up in Canada, people like to believe that usa will have a better solution for it, a US data recovery company they searched on google told customer that they could get the data back without needing worry about T2 chip or Imac not working all that, I do not...

                            Hello everyone.
I would like to know more about the following topic:
Nand flash on smartphone for data recovery.

I have been reading of people swapping nand flash from a faulty mainboard to another in order to save the data.
But I also read about encrypted data which to be read must been swap also cpu, or nfc or something else where is located the key to make the data being readable.
How does it works? How do I know if data are encrypted or where is the key?

I know there are also very expensive external socket where you can put the nand flash in...

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
