Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
i am using this.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181861030068
Do you know if that's a standard item ?
And if so, where to get it / what to search for ?better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubtComment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
the cable is included, the test-clips on the end arent.

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
If desoldered cap has really short leads you have to hold it on the contacts for SMD elements. Kinda pain in the ass to work with.
Was checking some datasheets, is vloss the same as "Dissipation factor"?
I see some models have leads with hooks. Would that help with measuring desoldered caps with short legs?Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
@stj: Do you have schematics/info for the rotary selector and/or zener testing?Comment
-
Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
rotary encoder schem is in the pdf, it also needs 4 resistors.
the zener circuit is on the forum i think was linked in a previous thread.
or a seperate one i posted about in a previous thread that works with your multimeter.Last edited by stj; 10-01-2015, 06:47 AM.Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
I bought this one because of ZIF socket.

Interesting.

it's more usefull with big transistors & stuff, but you could use it for caps.
keep in mind the cable length may effect the esr reading.Comment

Ok, let me re-ask, what TYPE of rotary encoder will work?Last edited by SteveNielsen; 10-01-2015, 08:07 AM.Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
rotary encoder looks like a pot but goes 360' and often clicks as you turn it.
it has a pair of switch contacts in it.
the good ones also have a switch in them that is under the shaft so you push the knob to "select" stuff.Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
Thanks. I guess the question should be can you give me an example of one I can get that would work with the tester when I get it?Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
I use this one and it's pretty good.

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
Thank you. Wouldn't a DPST momentary-on pushbutton switch do the same thing?Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
no.
i found this:

will order one and see how well it fits - and if it's enabled in the firmware!Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
Ok, so it's not a passive device then. There isn't a lot of explanation that I can find online as to how such a device actually works. I am left to assume it produces some sort of timed logic pulses?
BTW, the part you linked to does not ship to the US.Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
once stj has verified its in the firmware etc i bet a few of us will do the mod if stj gets it working and dosntmind posting pics and how to do the mod.I need to learn how to use my old tester first better yes im fine on testing capacitors and resistors but when it comes to testing transitors etc im still learning what a good or bad reading should be.Comment

Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...
it's a passive device, but it's not a case of up / down contacts.
the contacts switch in order based on the direction you spin it.
as for ebay, search the part "ec11 a617" there are a number of sellers.
there are cheaper ones sold in 5's but they look like shit.

by chth96I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that
"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."
Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...-

by jorpecHi
I want to change the scale of an analog meter, to monitor the charge of an li-ion single cell, so the needle at the end would point 4.2 volts and the 0 on the meter would point 2.5 volts or so, i tried to add diodes or a zener in series with the meter but the changes of the ambient temperature also changes the voltage value on the meter
I wonder how i can accomplish this so the meter would be precise at any temperature ?

by sam_sam_samAbout a month ago we had a transformer jumper wire that burned in two different places between two transformers caused over $200 thousand dollars worth of damage to VFD drives at least 10 of them and a memory card and quite a few power supply as well
Now we have most of the equipment that got damaged back up and running except a feeder that has issues and we are waiting for some parts for
Now we also have another piece of equipment that was blowing fuses on the 110 volt controller switch circuit with the “E” stops and one switching power (24 volt) supply and a transformer... -
Greetings, new guy here but always interested in the crazy universe of modding
We just finished construction of around 25 vacation houses, all inside the same private area.
Each house has 3phase power , and we bought an atlas MK10 meter for each house (25 meters total ! )
The metering on a per-house basis is done privately. Its not done by a utility company. The utility company will only charge us for the total consumption of all 25 houses together.
Id like to do a small modification on the firmware of our MK10 to make it easier identify each house's...05-20-2025, 09:09 AM -
by sam_sam_samI have had this in my wish list for quite a while now and I might need to test BMS protection board with this device because of the limitations of the battery testing machine that I have been using
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...yAdapt=glo2usa
What this will allow me to do is use my load testing machine that is having issues with the voltage cutoff set/ current meter monitoring system and I decided not to try to replace it or repair it I just going to use a very primitive load testing... - Loading...
