• Interesting, I got the same router but the first revision from 2019, bought early 2020. Been working 24/7 first as a router, then as dumb access point, flashed with openwrt. Rock stable, newer any problem with it.
This is the second forum post with blown caps on the newer revision (there is one post also on openwrt forum).
On newer revisions Xiaomi omitted shielding from the SOC and wifi chips and one of the larger caps on the input.
Could it be that OP's router blew the caps because of one cap less on the input?
I opened my router today, all caps are OK, no bulging, measured...

• APC SMT1000I, 2011 model, recap

Hi, I need some advice from the experts in the APC recapping department :-)
Got an older APC SMT1000I, 2011 model without fan that I would like to save if possible.
It came with 2 noname 7Ah batteries inside and some packing foam to fill the space, someone was creative :-)
It's working fine, tested it with light load, it charges batteries, passes self test, no strange behaviour.
Except for some quiet high freq hissing coming from a transformer compartment. Its hissing all the time, with or without battery, on battery... ...

Re: Real or fake?

He brought the rubycons in a envelope that says "PC MotherBoard Capacitor Store" and also http://www.capselling.com, arrived a couple of days ago from ebay. Has a neat logo on it, well, that' a luxury package for ebay seller, i always get the goods in a plain bag. As for The NCC, i would have to check with him, i got it in a plain plastic bag, friend says they are some time older, he would have to check which seller he got them from. But it was also some store that deals primarily in electronics/caps etc.
I just searched for that PC...

You mean that line "S0624" should be something like 2006, week 24?
Probably not a good idea to use them even if they are genuine ...

Real or fake?

Friend brought some caps to test on my new chinese T3/T4 :-)
Since he got it from ebay I'd like to hear your opinion.
I never used caps from ebay out of fear they would be fakes, these look really good to me, but I'm no expert.

NCC KY 47uF/25V 5x11mm - are they supposed to have these stamps on top of can?
There isn't eny info about it in the datasheet.
Measures 49uF with ESR 0.36 ohm.

Rubycon YXG 4700/16V 16x31mm- There is "K" vent, font and sleeving looks good, bungs also.
Measuring 4980uF and ESR 0.00
Probably...

Re: PWM splitter

There is not tacho (pin 3) on the connectors to the two case fans. they have only pwr,gnd and pwm (pin 4).
If i disconnect pin4 that fan would spin at full speed and that is what I'm trying to avoid....

PWM splitter

MBO in my main rig at home has only 4-pin fan connector, for the CPU fan. The rest are standard 3-pin.
Recently i got this PWM adapter and two of these fans.
In theory it should work fine: fans are drawing power from molex and are controled via PWM signal from the MBO that reads rpm from the CPU fan (old Freezer 64 pro)....

• Re: Asrock A770DE+ bad caps

Update:
Had a couple of longer power outages, UPS did shut down the PC as expected but it wouldn't come back up so easily
The fans and HDDs would spin but no video output. Shutting it off via the power button and powering back on did the trick - after 2-3 times it would post.
Had some Panasonic FRs 8x20 (1000uF,16V) at hand so used them. A bit higher (20mm vs 12) but the MBO is stable now, no problems.
Of those three replaced Samxon GKs, the bulged one is dead, other two measure 930 and 880 uF, ESR 0.18 and 0.23 respectively....

How to spot the one with input protection among all those models?
Also, got any info about differences between T3 and T4?...

That's the one. No any markings or logo ond the PCB.
Found some links in this thread:
http://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/$20-lcr-esr-transistor-checker-project/

All models (link can be found in the forum above):

Unfortunately, have no time to fiddle with this tester
What interface is needed to upload firmware into this?Re: Help needed getting an ESR...

I bought this one because of ZIF socket.
If desoldered cap has really short leads you have to hold it on the contacts for SMD elements. Kinda pain in the ass to work with.

Interesting.
Was checking some datasheets, is vloss the same as "Dissipation factor"?

I see some models have leads with hooks. Would that help with measuring desoldered caps with short legs?...

Only contrast setting in the menu. If held longer, device shuts off.
Software version is 2.07.

Nice.
I got this one a couple of days ago:
www.ebay.com/itm/251563800953
For me as an amateur and hobbyist it will do.
Seems to be working, i tested a couple of known good/bad caps and the results are ok. Even found some caps to be bad that i was not planning to replace
Is any calibration on this things needed?
How do you get this menu for special functions like frequency generator?
Nice job with the acrylic shield btw Re: Help needed getting an ESR meter...

Edimax DSL modem/router

Hi,

This is Edimax router from my father in law, started making some problems. Opened it and found only 2 bulged caps
All caps are Suncap and Canicon (both found where in the hall of shame) with no extra markings.
I was thinking to replace those two, maybe all on that side but am not sure if caps should be low esr or regular?
Values are (right side, top to bottom):
2x Canicon 100uF 50V
2x Suncap 470uF 16V (bulged)
4x Canicon 47uF 16V
Local store has Panasonic FC and NHG and a couple of other lower quality brands like Yageo.
So, FC...

• Re: Cyberpower DX800E UPS bad cap

I saw some Panasonic FCs at a local shop (everything except 1uF cap). I could try to recap with those like budm suggested.
Hope the low esr would not cause problems

So, the capacitance was reading ok, but the ESR was too high, were those low esr caps or standard?
Can i use low ESR caps in my UPS?...

• Cyberpower DX800E UPS bad cap

USP is 4 years old, simptoms were:
- on power loss it would not switch to battery but reported error instead
- sometimes the pwrstat service would turn off the computer on boot, as soon as the service started, UPS told it battery was low and it would issue a shutdown signal

First I thought it was the battery, opened it up and found a bulged cap. It seems it also leaked brown fluid around the case (last picture).
It was Su'scon 4700uF 16V SD series (low ESR), replaced with Yageo SC series 4700uF 16V 16x25mm that I had at home. The big cap is right under the small...
