yeah, i disagree too. i have lite-on everything, multiple devices, all my clients have lite-on drives. not a single failure. maybe i'm just lucky. i count around 90 lite-on drives that i have.

sony, phillips, lg, etc have all had problems with me tho for some reason.

Lube the slides [or rail] on the laser platform.

              Haven't had trouble with LG.
Quit using Lite-on back when they were called Gold Star.
HL-DT-ST types usually work good after a firmware update.
Only had one Phillips and it was crap from day one.
My [real] Plextor from back in the 90's is still going strong.

                  *?!*

                  LG = HL-DT-ST = Goldstar

HL-DT-ST = Hitachi-LG Data Storage = what most ppl. call "LG" nowadays..
Goldstar -> Lucky Goldstar -> LG

lite-on (more like lite-off when the lasers die after half a year) has nothing to do with any of these..
from what i know, lite-on is somehow related to JVC.

                    I think your right.
I bought an 8x Gold Star back in the 90's and it wouldn't do Linux [which is what I specifically bought it for and it said Linux compatible on the box] and I swore I'd never get another Gold Star again.
I guess 10+ years later I forgot who was who.

half a year.. naa.. more like 1 year 1 day.. just out of warranty. I have had that happen 2 times with lite-on drives.. one was a DVD ROM for the PC, the other was a DVD Burner for the TV. Both crapped out just after a year and just out of warranty..

10 years ago i was doing SGI stuff,

optical drives on unix was always a problem then, the drive had to have a specific block-size.
good drives like pioneer & yamaha had a jumper to set the blocksize for unix comptability.
                        the junk didnt.

the best drive i ever had - still have is my pioneer scsi slot-loader.
those are built like tanks with a mechanism that is pure quality.

i used to carry it around for doing software installs because it was soo much better than other peoples drives!

lite-on isn't related to anything. out of all the optical drives, it is the only one from taiwan. jvc, sony, plextor are japanese. lg is korean, so is samsung. pioneer is japanese too. phillips might as well be korean, they share with lg.

Plextor doesn't -make- optical drives anymore.
Their drives are OEM from someone else now with a customized firmware.

Couple years ago I tracked down who made 3 or 4 of the Plextors that were current then and all but one were Lite-on.
I haven't considered Plextor since then as just buying a Lite-on branded unit would get the same part for something like 20% less $$.

                                    not good these days,
                                    Plextor - gone
                                    Yamaha - gone.
Pioneer - quality not always what it was, it varies from drive to drive. the 111 is a good one.
NEC - now optiarc, did sony help or damage the NEC quality? i think we dont have that answer yet.

                                            Asus P4C800-E VRM issues
                                            by c_corr
This board had the initial fault in VRM with high side Mosfet from PWM1 (phase 1) getting very hot. It also had the VRM caps quicly heating up in 10-15 seconds after power on.

This board uses mext ICs and Mosfets in VRM:
                                            - ADP3180 PWM controller - in 3 phase mode
                                            - ADP3418 as Modfet drivers
                                            - High side Mosfets STD38NH02L (from ST)
                                            - Low side Mosfets STD90NH02L

Some of the symptoms were very similar with the "Dead Asus P5P800-VM" in this forum.
I had the sawtooth voltage on Vcore too this was probably the cause of the Vcore caps...

Kenmore electric range replacement infinity switch?
                                            by CapLeaker
Actually this range had multiple problems but I fixed all the others already.

I am stuck finding a replacement infinity dual burner switch for a Kenmore C970-605121. The dual burner is stuck full on as soon as you turn the knob either side, either the difference of either only one or both burners running full tilt.
I tried cleaning it inside contacts, but that didn’t do anything.

I believe the dual burner switch reads a part number of: 318191021 which is hard to find. I came across a 318191026 part number but it has 2 pins on the row missing. Is there anything...

                                            Hello everyone.

Some background - I have one of those chinese diesel heaters, which I'm using to heat a garage. Probably most of you are familiar with that units, but here is some basic info - the main heater body is enclosed with the motherboard+sensors unit inside a plastic case. The heater has a glow plug, that works only when the unit is starting (start the fire in the burner) and stopping (make sure to completely burn the fuel inside the burner) and two fans on a single motor. One fan is used to push fresh air in the burner, the other is used to push cold air in the case and...
