reasons I still use a CRT:

1. not enough $
2. not enough $$
3. not enough $$$

If I had the money and more incentive, I would. however it never seemed like a priority to me. As many decent CRT's i have gotten free, if it works, I'm happy.

for the zip ties- I used to have more in there for the front panel cables... but for the others, there is little point since the PSU is not modular and there is so much cable there that zip ties wouldn't help much... why this one was not made modular is a mystery to me. It was a freebie (needed a recap) so whatever.

The touchpad does not work, even in Windows, some sort of hardware issue with it since it appears in the list of devices. Also, the battery is cooked, if you unplug it from the wall it will last about 5-7 minutes then just click off, no warning whatsoever.

Neat! Now all I can say is that I bought a new Hp a few months back. Can't tell you what model is because its dark in here and I can't see the sticker on the side of it. Here is what I can tell you. Its has a four core AMD Phenom II CPU, and eights gigs of RAM with a 1.5 TB hard drive. There is also a card reader and a 16X DVD burner with two USB sound jacks on the front of the case. The monitor is a 25" Hp flat screen. The OS is windows home preium and I'm loving it so far...

The purpose of this computer is the same as the purpose for any computer!

I gave two dollars for this mother board to prevent it from going to the garbage. I checked my junkbox for other things to finish the project. Don't have a case yet....but maybe in the future. I hope to find a processor for it that is a little faster.

The power supply STANK and was full of brown (nicotine) dust. I took the case apart, removed the pc board and fan, and put all in a dishpan full of soapy dish water. Scrubbed it all, washed it off, dried it. Then took the fan apart, cleaned and oiled it. Capacitor C36, the usual culprit, was bloated. I replaced and relocated it on the other side of the heat sink. Power supply now works great. the GeForce video card works much better than the onboard video. For a ten year old system, it runs well with Ubuntu.

Some people enjoy getting dirty greasy working on old cars. Not me. I think I will just stick with an old computer project like this.

I had one and hated it... got it NOS, it never ran right. the 512mb limit was my biggest complaint... the VIA based boards were much better.

I think my TUSL2-C with Tualatin 1400-S is the best thing since the proverbial

Got that one with faulty PS/2 ports which irritated me so much I was tempted to scrap it a few times, but eventually stumbled upon a fix which I documented in another thread

Asus's S370 boards were pretty much their last product before corporate greed got the better of them, and their cost shavers spoiled later offerings

Not sure on which criteria "VIA based boards were much better"

If you want something which works without hassles, Intel chipsets are the way to go

Or if you want a VIA chipset, why use a S370 processor ? - S462 all the way

That appeared to be true with socket A boards, except for the divider, PCI and AGP OC roadblocks.

And you often could get the same for less, compared to the Nvidia versions, the only con was the lack of locking the PCI and AGP!

Because Asus introduced C.P.R., (CPU parameter recall) a feature that allows the motherboard to recover from an OC unstable enough to cause POST failure, without clearing the CMOS.

Unfortunately, it appears that Asus cannot support C.P.R. with the nForce chipset. It appears that Asus ran into a technical problem with implementing it on the nForce (and nForce 2) chipset.

And nForce 2 appeared to be more BIOS corruption prone than Via was at the time with the KT400, KT600 and KT880.
