Re: Nichicon HM/HN/HZ scheduled for discontinuation
Here is what I got from my contact at Nichicon:
The main reason is that all our comp has already decided to discontinue water base series and now their customer are searching for another supplier
We will not accept orders in those 2 series . The only water base parts we will still manufacture HD and HE series.
Thanks

Re: DELL XPS 600 BAD CAP Leaked NO BOOT
I'd be interested. I fixed a couple of these by cleaning the coil and re-wrapping with magnet wire of the same diameter and turns....

Re: Does cap physical size matter????
Do you have anything to back this up? I've used tons of these HNs and in my experience 2280 will be more than enough ripple....

Re: Does cap physical size matter????
The replacements will work fine. Physical size will affect ratings ( ESR, Ripple ) within a series. It looks like an HN 10X16mm but Nichicon also makes that size in HZ.
KZG 6.3v 2200uF 10X20mm
ESR 13 Ripple 2550
HN 6.3v 2200uF 10X16mm
ESR 11 Ripple 2200
HZ 6.3v 2200uF 10X16mm
ESR 10 Ripple 2960

Re: Dell XPS 600 Mobo Capacitors
Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm 2 for 2 with XPS600 boards. Didn't have any coils to scavenge so I removed the wire, cleaned the coil, rewrapped with magnet wire of the same diameter and replaced the caps. One of them is a file server for our techs and it has been up 24/7 for over a year with no issues.

Re: SSD recommendations
Those anandtech articles are from 2008-2009, SSDs have come a long way since 2008. I'm not sold that they are more reliable than a good HD but the jump in performance is worth the risk that it is as reliable as a HDD. Only fools don't back up their important data regardless of storage media.
Quote from the Teds article ". Should you be deterred from adopting a solid-state solution? So long as you protect your data through regular backups, which is imperative regardless of your preferred storage technology, then we don't...

Re: SSD recommendations
OCZs have a 3 year warranty and MTBF of 2,000,000 hrs. With no moving parts there isn't much to fail. SSDs are not new, they are just new to the consumer market. ( http://www.storagesearch.com/chartingtheriseofssds.html )
. All 3 machines I use daily are running 100% on SSDs and I have yet to have a problem.Re: SSD recommendations<br /> <br /...sds.html

Re: SSD recommendations
I have 3X OCZs from tiger direct and I love them all. The latest is a OCZ Solid3 120GB for my windows 7 box and it flys. I have 2 older vertex series SATA 2s, one in my laptop and one in my SX280. Watch newegg and tiger for black friday deals. The prices on these have come way down. I was going to get a REVO drive ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=426323&CatId=5303 ) for my beast machine but the solid3 was almost as fast R/W, Read up to 500MB/s and write up to 450MB/s.Re: SSD recommendations

Re: Do u think that hardware repair will dissapear?
My 2 cents: Tablets are a fad like PDAs/netbooks. Cloud computing and storage is not going to take over any time soon, I personally like the idea of being able to access my data from any device but I don't trust any of the current offerings with anything important or private. Thin clients like wyse terms sound good but they suck and almost every one we rolled out ( about 500 ) were replaced with PCs shorty after due to user outrage. As long as the economy stays in the crapper I think there will be a healthy market for component...

Re: Dell SX280 "Phrizbee" MOBO Recap?
interesting that the 2200uFs near the memory almost never die after a regular wet recap. Wonder if its something about the polies they used that causes them to go bad. most of the Dell recaps come back with these blown but none of my ruby recaps have.
