Re: Need to find suitable replacement for APL 1086 transistor
Thanks for all of the useful info guys. Momaka thanks for the suggestions and I think I understand your instructions on the needed measurements (noob and sometimes idiot when matters of electronics are concerned). As soon as I find the time I will remove the transistor and give it a shot. Meanwhile could you point me to a suitable TO-220 replacement from other manufacturers of the chip because that would be the only type which I could get where I am. Thanks in advance guys....

Re: Need to find suitable replacement for APL 1086 transistor
The full naming of the regulator is APL 1086 and below it is GK1 GK. That's all there is written on the chip. no luck finding a datasheet for that specific model of the chip. I'll double check the naming in case I'm missing something. And yes the chip was next to the ram slot.

Need to find suitable replacement for APL 1086 transistor
Hi guys,
I have an ECS AM2 motherboard that has a dead APL 1086 transistor which is getting hot if I try to start the motherboard. The only remotely close alternative I have on hand is an APL 1117 from another board and they are of similar specs. Would it be ok to replace the 1086 with 1117 just to see if the board will start or maybe even for a permanent replacement? Also can you please point me to suitable alternatives for the 1086.

Re: How do I unplug this??
That seems to be the flex cable from the display, just pull upwards with a bit of force because those things are usually glued on the underside, after the flex is free you can unplug the cable from the T-CON board.
Pics would help.

Re: Help finding lost components
Those are a SMD capacitors judged by the markings C152, and C1.. and probably the lower smaller one, just find appropriately sized capacitors from another scrap board and solder them on. Although that might not be the only problem with the card but its a good place to start.

Re: Poor old ThinkPad
Here's some batteries for the X60s, I know they're china made but they will work

Re: USB kicks in, but won't appear?
Probably the drive is dead. Try formatting it and try it out in another machine to make sure.

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?
He said it fell off in transport while he was moving the case somewhere doing something. The case was open and he simply lost it. He must have banged it pretty good for the chip to exit the socket or for some reason he's lying to me....

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?
Ok guys, I stipulate to the fact that the SPI chip is the BIOS and that the mobo would not boot without it. Next step, suggest chip replacements, will any run of the mill SPI flash rom chip work or does it have to be the one chosen by the mobo manufacturer?Last edited by Koda; 03-25-2013, 02:26 AM.

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?
Per Hansson I would agree with you had I not located the BIOS chip already but it is there and I can read actually
shovenose thanks for the offer and I would take you up on it but I'm from Macedonia and no paypal here
Do you accept moneybookers/skrill?

Re: Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?
Wrong, that is not the bios as the bios is located at the top right corner of the mobo next to the ram slots. look at this pic, bios chip market with green, label clearly reads AmiBios 636 and some other stuff. I would think a bios to a more advanced mobo wouldn't be on a dip-8 chip. Maybe some sort of backup?...

Empty SPI socket on Foxconn motherboard, will it work?
So I got this board from my cousin, its a Foxconn A7VMX AM2/AM2+ mobo. Checking the pics from the manufacturer's website it shows the chip in the socket and the mobo I got is without that chip and the socket is empty. Normally I would test the mobo to see but I'm having a hard time finding a AM2 CPU to test it. Does anyone know what this chip is and will the mobo work without it? I'm hoping it's for some non critical features. Here are some pics from the net showing where the chip is located....

Re: Burned hp motherboard
Part number? Motherboard model? Can you get the replacement part?
To clean off the part use some flux and rubbing alcohol. Flux is not only used for soldering

Re: PSU with 12.67V on the 12V rail, should I be worried?
So I took out my cheap MM and I measured the PSU under load and it gave me 12.15v under load and 12.55v without load. So I took Behemot's advice and adjusted the potentiometers just to be on the safe side. Now the PSU gives me 11.98v under load and 12.09v without load when testing with a MM and Everest reports 12.42v. Now I am much more comfortable with these voltages although I loaded down the 3.3v rail to about 3.15v but that's still within specs so I'm satisfied. Thanks to all of you guys especially to Behemot who pointed...
