    comp problems.

Well I just got a new intel 850E mobo (VR), to replace an old gigabyte GA-8IHXP, that was nothing but trouble...

I instlal everything in case, no post no video... Everything's running all fans etc, the GPU/CPU warms up, but thats it.

so I take mobo out of case, I install CPU, RDRAM, Video card, no post no vid, same shit... Test with another PS, SAME, another video card SAME!

so I say hmmm, maybe something to do with the rdram (had all 4 slots filled 4x256 pc1066) So I start switching the ram around (first to slots) and use CRIMM. Still nothing same shit no post no video...

    I'm now thinking it's the CPU, but I don't have a Mobo to test a pent 4 478.

Anyone have any ideas of what else I might be able to do, or what could be wrong? I've reseated CPU memory etc.. no go.

PLEASE HELP I'M RIPPING MY HAIR OUT!!!!

    EDIT: hardware duh...

    p4 2.66 ghz cpu.

    a 500 watt Power supply.

a ati radeon 9200 vga vid card.

    1 gig pc1066 RDRAM.

    Re: comp problems.

make sure you have p4 power and aux plugged in if they are used.
some intel boards also use a 4 pin drive power too.
and it wont run without it!
just put a ibm intellistation board in a machine at the shop.its oem intel.
uses 20 pin atx,aux power, and a drive power.aux is the one that looks like an at connector.
also make sure the psu supplies -5 esp if the board has isa slots.
too many cheap psu dont have -5

      Re: comp problems.

      Jumpers/power everything looks right :/ BUT;

Umm I see here on the "MB layout case sticker" (different then the manual.) ab AUX PWR it just has 2 pins thats all! WTH is it? In the manual it says power LED. also, I have the PWR 12V (p4), and reg power (20 pin?!?) connected.

The lights are coming up on board and everything, just no post from the onboard speaker/no vid?!?

I didn't really get what you were saying about the PS anyway, it seems I over rated it... it's a turbolink switching power supply MODEL: CWT-420ATX 12V (420 watt max). the board to be more specific is an INTEL 850EMVR (850EMv2 revised).

kc8adu, with ATX revision 2.01, on June, 2004, the -5 was dropped. That's the white wire in the 20/24 pin ATX shell, Brandon. Along with the ISA slots the -5 was used by some older PCI sound cards. Some PSUs still have it on the pcb but no wire is run.

        Starts on page 3.

477 socket... Bent pin!!! WELL SOB!! I can't believe I didn't spot it b4... it's a pin right on the edge too, and boy is it bent, more like folded... WISH ME LUCK, I'll post results, if all else fails CPU is still under warranty so maybe they will replace it? )

          Thanks for the post's!

477 fixed the bent pin... but found one broke :/, damn things are hard to spot... I'm going to try to put a pin in the sock, and maybe it will work...

                  Very fine soldering is required.
Are you sure it's not the guide pin, meant to be missing?

yes. on the opp side.. Well I can't soder THAT well. Again do you think intel would replace it?

                    -if intel won't.
so, I have a question, will the intel pentium 4 3.0GHz 800MHz 478pin 1MB CPU work in this board? (850EMVR) I'm not sure it supports the 800mhx FSB, and thre have been so many damn revisons of this board, and not much updated info.

                    Thanks for the information guys.

I've never soldered pins back on a processor. Nice work! Post up some pics of that! Anytime I had a CPU that shed pins like a sick cat, I always tossed them in the trash.

I've soldered a pin back once - on a Tualatin PIII CPU. It took two attempts to do it properly.

I doubt if any i850 board can reliably support a Prescott - it was introduced with the Williamette. Anyway, check the caps and keep your fingers crossed.

might be a bios for it.
anyway make sure vcore is right and the vrm is not overheating.

Recently I discovered my SSD died (OCZ/Toshiba 240 GB). It was in a USB enclosure, attached to the Linksys WRT-AC1200 router. Since then I removed the USB enclosure and attached it to my Win7 PC (AMD 8150 CPU, 970 chipset, 64 GB RAM). I also gathered one or two other USB enclosures to figure out what is going on.

(I suspect that I lost quite a few MP3 and FLAC files I recently ripped from my audio CDs, I think I lost very little un-replaceable stuff.)

I think it is IMPOSSIBLE for Win7 to have any problems with a USB enclosure as long as Win7 knows how to speak to the...

Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Mobo MSI B550-A PRO password popup

                                          Hello guys,
I have interesting problem. My MoBo MSI running on Ryzen 7 w/o graphics just good. I swapped to Ryzen 5 5600G and on the boot I stuck with screen on picture. Enter Password. I checked BIOS setting with Ryzen 7, no security is enabled, BIOS password or TPM.
BIOS I updated to last one.
                                          any suggestions?
And same thing for two different 5600G, and yes, MoBo supposed to support it.
                                          Thank you...

Dell G3 17 3779 - no display after mobo replacement

                                          Hi guys,

I have a friend's Dell 3779 that came to me with severely shorted mobo. Did not manage to isolate the cause, most likely that was a bga shorted. Went for a replacement motherboard. Got one from China, apparently it's been tested prior to shipping. The mobo starts up normally but I am getting no display whatsoever.

Tried using external monitor, but being blind I am not sure if laptops goes as far as booting to Windows, a d without it I cannot get hdmi to work. Can't see boot menu options to make sure it boots to Windows. Went ahead and did a blind bios update,...
