Someones Idea of a badcaps fix

A guy brought me an Epox nforce 2 board today, had teapo and GSC, the row of gsc near the lpt port had failed, and some random 1000uf gsc also failed.

Here is a link to a board like it
    http://www.ixbt.com/mainboard/images...8rda+board.jpg

He had taken it to another place and they flattened the caps back down, covered them with super glue and told him that would take care of it.

I found that hilarious and had to share, needless to say he still had problems.

Quite sinister... one wonders whether the caps would then eventually develop sufficient pressure due to the obstructed vent to (possibly disastrously) rupture.

I don't quite know what to say.

I think your customer can learn from 'Slim' here...

Well out of south Alabama come a country boy
He said, "I'm looking for a man named Jim
I am a pool shootin' boy, my name is Willie McCoy
But down home they call me Slim
And I'm looking for the king of 42nd street
He's driving a drop top Cadillac
Last week he took all my money, and it may sound funny
But I've come to get my money back."

You Don't Mess Around With Jim
            , Jim Croce

I'd suggest he demand a refund, and then recap the board for him...If it works, it's worth saving.

Just goes to show... there's no shortage of PC cowboys in the world, pity it's the average joe who must endure their (so called) service

Kinda' also make you ponder... how many otherwise repairable boards end up as land fill?

                Id say a lot taz

from A look at these forums there probably heaps of stuff just scrapped because of bad caps

RE what they did to the caps..... they obviously have no idea what they are doing on the electronics side at best and at worst it could be deemed fraud.
(Per you comment says it all thought )

If it is a registered mob (calling themselfs pc, electronic electrical repairers) I shudder to think what else they have put back in the hands of customers.

Its mobs like that that make it hard for any genuine techs in bizz to make a living.....give us all a bad name with thier shonky jobs

As shroomie said...tell him to get his money back

Jim Croce.... what an artist, pitty a plane crash killed him very

This was so funny I'm still quoting it weeks later.
I'm pretty sure that was dialectric super glue on there, which is ok, and pushing down repressurizes them, till next time.
I do the same with beer bottles, then put them back in fridge.

That is the most stupid idea i had ever seen. my father did that to his old power supply caps and flipped the V/S comp cut out and five seconds later there was this moltin glue all behind the computer and inside another cap ended up sealed like that..

If thats what I think it was, someone attempted to reseal the leaking caps.... (the image wont load, server error)

I had an Mac board in here a few weeks ago packed with 1800uF Nichicon HN series caps that had all vented. The guy dabbed RTV silicon sealant on the tops of them, thinking that would fix it, which of course it didn't...... lol

I can't imagine a tech would be that dumb to glue the top of a venting cap.
It's much better using bubble gum, then if there's a broblem later just look in to see,,, the,,, little,,,,, pink,,,, bubbles.
