Re: DVD Drive problems.
OK that seems nothing short of a fluke. it happened twice. on the 2-12 and when i reported back. it seems that i am probably screwed. on the upper news i am getting a new machine! and this one is going to an old friend who's whole one got burned up during a lightning storm. a bit more powerful than this one.

Erratic behaviour on Benq fps 567 LCD.
Sometimes the monitor works fine but then it comes up no signal then returnes to normal then no signal then normal every 2 seconds and keeps going for a while. I suspect a short somewhere but am unsure where. i havent yet taken off the back but might if it is easy to fix.It was a good display untill it <CENSORED>ed up a few months ago.

Re: Hello to all, first post and nc8230 hell
well i dont think bad caps would be the problem. Arneson has a point. get the covers off and try some attempts at raising the bottom down from the motherboard. maybe some aluminum can help with that. if the motherboard is mounted on the case, trim down some normal motherboard risers to size and then the trick is getting the same size.

Re: Killer Computer Cases Research
well i have a horizontal ATX case.
Takes about 20 minutes to get apart though. 10 seconds to take of the top panel. 10 minutes to get the disc drive out and 9:50 minutes to get the HDD out. and if i need to get the frount bezel off. i need the HDD out so a further 15 seconds.
And THAT is when i am concentrating...

Re: Best power supply you've had
sorry for the late reply. anyway my best power supply is a generic 230W ATX power supply. 4 years and counting and a PC Wattage calculator said that my setup would pull about 225W. Shows that not all generics are bad. also i know this person who has a generic AT PSU 12 years old. about 85W And it is still working fine!

Re: Benq power board failed, no backlight
Well you can find a few transistor test methods out there. i always skip them because my multimeter has a nice little feature where you slot the transistor in a socket and switch it to "Transistor test" mode. look around and you should fine one.Re: Benq power board failed, no backlight

Re: Monitor goes off briefly.........
That used to happen before i took the computer upstairs. except in this case it is a 19 inch CRT. When the thermostat hits it would go dim and out of focus for a second or so before returning to normal. EVERY electronic device has inrush current. even lightbulbs.
the current is a tiny bit higher than normal but with a high power fridge (or bad one for that matter) you could see literally kilowats of Inrush current. just get a powerpoint loadmeter and see what it does sometimes spikes of over 7 amps hit that fridge.

Re: What the hell is this?!
or carefully solder some wire onto the thing and that to where it went.

Re: Medion 1998 OF no picture after suspend mode
Heh like me and the dvd player. No left channel sound. check "ALL" solder joints overlook the one at the left channel witch is soldered on the pcb pop as i pop the cover back on i hear something falling. the left channel plug has fallen inside. resolder it and i laugh about it to this day.

Re: Basic question regarding use of ungrounded sockets
those figure 8 plugs. they can be plugged in up side down and still work. still i would like to know if neutral even does anything.
I also had something to do with a non-grounded computer. i rested my hand on top of the computer CRACK huge sparks hit my hand and the computer promptly turned itself off. turned it back on(still works today and this was 3 years ago) all was well.
it goes to show that ground is compulsory on todays computers....
