    Recommend GOOD cheap PSU

Putting together a new build for client.

Intel i5 build with ati 6850

    Using newegg.

Need a recommendation on brand for PSU or recommend a GOOD cheap PSU.

I only need 500w single rail, need decent amount of amps on the 12v. The more wattage, the better.

I was going to buy Corsair 750TX then I saw the CV series but it doesn't look as reliable as the TX series.

I'm cutting cost where I can.

Thats about the best for the money. If you want to take a chance:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817494002

It's an HEC unit, and they are typically hit-and-miss in terms of performance. Usually so-so voltage regulation and not so good ripple suppression. I don't see your computer going much over 200-250W, so I would say it would be fine, but would suggest coughing up the extra $20 and getting the known quality and extra year of warranty.

Careful of the corsair. IIRC the CX series are full of samxon GF series

        I'd use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207018 - XFX pro series 450W

The Silent Pro M 600W is on sale for 59 (after rebate).

It is an enhance design, group reg, mostly modular, good reviews.

I think the best choice would be a decent hardware design and then pre-emptively replace the capacitors if needed?

I grabbed an OCZ Falal1ty 550W a few weeks ago at Newegg (an older PSU, Newegg was probably clearing the last of them out). I don't see many reviews for this PSU, and you'll have to follow the rebate instructions EXACTLY, but for $45 ($35 if you let them send their promotional e-mails to you), I'm satisfied.

(The PSU fan is inside the top/bottom of the PSU, not the side that faces out the back of your computer. So the heatsinks have to be shorter inside. But it's probably a pretty good PSU.)

That's a pretty common way to mount the fan nowadays. Large, slow fan makes it quieter.

I got a good deal on an "Antec Earthwatts 650", for $69 when the retail price was still $99. Now I see them on sale again, , , you guessed it, for $69 again.

I have two of them, one in each of my main systems and after more than a year, never a complaint. I run a lot of extra hardware and the PSU's take it in stride. I can think of nothing worse, than being Underpowered.

Remember, the rating on the label, is the momentary startup wattage, not the All Day, every day running wattage.

Any decent brand puts the continuous rating on the label.

You should get a Kill-A-Watt and play around with it.
I dunno what you have and I could be wrong but the odds are you'll find you are past just over-kill and well into hyper-over-kill.

You should check yours out inside.

We have a customer with a 300w variant of these in their PCs.
Some of the collection of caps inside are Capxon, which fail and then send the ripple to the mobo, which overheats components and takes out caps there too.

yeah... warning on all the funky caps, especially in corsair CX (not cool cause they replaced the VX which were good with these)... last i checked tho, ablecom/supermicro was fine, but topcat knows more since he sees those all the time:

                                          Hi all,

I was looking to upgrade my main multimeter (Asita MD591) with something that has more features. I'll use it mostly for board diagnostic and diy repairs. I've been eyeing out many of those multi-function ones from Aliexpress but can't seem to make my mind up. Here are the features that I'm looking after:

                                          - Autorange
                                          - DC volts up to 30V
                                          - Accurate Resistance
                                          - Diode test (Beep mode)
                                          - Frequency up to 200MHz
                                          - Capacitanze up to 5000uF
                                          - as cheap as possible

Other functions are not needed but those which are needed...

Good power bank shells for 18650 cells?
                                          by spleenharvester
I did a cell salvage run on some Dyson batteries to build out a new fleet of Milwaukee batteries and the yield was a lot higher than expected, so I now have a lot of extra Sony VTC4s that are in reasonably good health. I'd like to build them into power banks, there's a glut of shells for 18650s on AliExpress but I don't know which are any good (read: won't explode). Can anyone recommend some (especially the ones that just fit a single cell)? Weld or weldless are fine, I have a spot welder

I suppose USB-PD and/or quick charge would be desirable too

                                          Cheers

For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
                                          http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

Boston Acoustics fans, this thread might not be for you.
A few years back (~2018 time frame), I picked up a set of free JVC speakers from someone on Craigslist that no one seemed to be interested in. The guy also had a single Boston Acoustics HD8 speaker – yes, just one cabinet. He said he had no idea where he got this one from or why it's only by itself. But like the JVC speakers, it was going to get tossed at the end of that week… so I came to collect, as usual. And that's all I know about this HD8. After all, I figured why not take it and see what's inside… show it to the...
