It doesn't seem to be temperature related, it's totally random whether it will run or not. When it doesn't run everything goes off, no lights.
I think you are right about cracks in the joint, I desoldered the filter cap for replacement and the scorched pad delaminated immediately. Just waiting for the replacement cap to get here to do a bridging repair....

Also does anyone know what these plastic blades are called/where I can find a replacement? I snapped it by accident and cannot for the life of me figure out where to get another. Pump works fine without so I'm guessing they just serve to cool the motor down? I guess I might need to 3D print one.
(Edit just 3D printed one)...Last edited by spleenharvester; 01-18-2024, 11:15 AM.

Einhell Pressito air compressor not working on mains voltage
Hi all,
I have this air compressor by Einhell, history unknown. It has two modes - 18V battery and 240V AC. On battery everything works fine. On AC it switches on, but makes a quiet repetitive buzzing noise, and the second you start either of the air pumps it completely dies most of the time. On occasion it will work without fault.
Only thing remarkable on physical inspection is that the filter cap on the PSU board has a scorched positive lead. It is 150uF, 400V, 105*C. The cap is...2 PhotosLast edited by spleenharvester; 01-18-2024, 09:40 AM.

Re: Dell P2317H - backlight, no display
Final update, it appears to be the SM4047 IC on the panel... after a minute or so of power it gets extremely hot. Replacing QFN is pretty much beyond my abilities (thanks to a tremor) so I'm just going to scrap it.

Re: Dell P2317H - backlight, no display
Just checked and the LM230WF9 is getting +5V and +3.3V and the controller board is getting +5V, so it seems like this is a signal transmission issue rather than power. The computer properly detects it and everything, shows P2317H @ 1080p60. I am thinking maybe ribbon cable as it was working when the seller tested it but perhaps was damaged in transit.
EDIT (again): Just tested continuity of the 30 pins on the LVDS cable, all are fine.

Dell P2317H - backlight, no display
Hi friends, got this one basically for free (sold as working but refunded) so interested to have a play about with it.
It powers on but to a black (backlit) screen. Every 10 seconds or so the screen goes dark (power LED stays lit) then comes back on to a black screen again. Rinse and repeat. No response to OSD controls or to input being plugged in. USB ports have power and the display is detected properly and doesn't disconnect if HDMI is plugged into my laptop so it seems to be at least partially alive.
Disassembled but can't find anything obvious wrong....Last edited by spleenharvester; 07-10-2023, 07:35 AM.

Re: Dell C1660w excess toner keeps getting onto drum
Tried to take it apart to have a better look and unfortunately seem to have wrecked it even worse now. When trying to print it immediately goes from green light to orange light with "paper jam or no paper in tray" without any attempt to pull the paper up. Can't figure it out for the life of me, any idea what the heck I've done to it? Can't find any sensors that could be causing it
EDIT - now it's trying to take paper up - it reaches the first small feed roller then stops there (like 1" in)Last edited by spleenharvester; 10-12-2022, 01:58 PM.

Dell C1660w excess toner keeps getting onto drum
Bought this colour laser printer dead and brought it back from to working order, so I have no idea how much use it's had/what its storage conditions have been before it came to me.
It is working but leaves repeating horizontal yellow lines about 2" long from the right side of each page, as well as a vertical black line at the far right. Opening the rear after each print there is visibly a lot of loose toner on the drum. If I clean it off and print again it just gets covered in mostly yellow toner again.
Any ideas? The cartridges are compatibles as Dell no longer...

Dell C1660W laser printer - no power fix
Just wanted to share my fix of this printer.
Upon receipt it was completely dead, no power. Cosmetically looks perfect. Opened it up to find the power PCB was severely cracked at the front edge. One is just surface, the other goes all the way through. Given it looks cosmetically perfect I suspect someone applied a lot of pressure at the front of the printer, which causes the chassis to deform slightly and flex the PCB.
Put in some jumper wires and it fired right up. Going to 3D print a plastic piece to reinforce the cracked section of the PCB....

Cheers everyone - still no idea what it is but I eventually found the right cable in the loft!

OptiPlex Micro 3050/5050/7050 - D8-MFF-SFF schematic request
Hi all
Anyone happen to have the schematic for the D8-MFF-SF? It's an OptiPlex 7050 Micro but I believe the 3050/5050 also use this board.
EDIT - Title should say SF not SFF.
Many thanksLast edited by spleenharvester; 10-07-2022, 10:50 AM.

Re: Pinout of TV antenna cable
The house has coax cables hanging out of the ceiling in various rooms (we just bought it) so they were clearly connected to the antenna somehow at some point, but they're not connected to anything now. So I'm not sure quite how they worked with it....

Pinout of TV antenna cable
Trying to bring the antenna cable down from my roof to my living room, it's currently not wired to anything. But instead of a coax cable, I found two of these 4-core monstrosities. I'm guessing the two light green wires are common to eachother, as are the two dark green wires - and each 'pair' is either signal or shield. Any ideas?...

Re: AEG U3100-4-M Oven - RCD trips after heating up
Think I've figured it out, it was the terminal block after all - opened the rear cover and it's a complete mess of melted wires and plastic. I think there was some arcing going on between the live terminal and the chassis. Going to replace the terminal block, should hopefully fix it.

AEG U3100-4-M Oven - RCD trips after heating up
Odd problem here with this oven. Once it's been heating for about 10 minutes the RCD trips. If you try and flip the RCD back on it will trip instantly until the oven has cooled down again.
It's previously eaten an element so I replaced the element again - fault remains. My next thought was possibly the cooling fan, as the mainboard's cooling fan kicks in after about 10 minutes usually, but the resistance is testing OK.
There's some quite badly melted plastic around the earth connection at the back of the oven, but I'm not sure if this damage was caused by the fault or...Last edited by spleenharvester; 08-18-2022, 01:03 PM.

907A knockoff soldering handle voltage
Hi all
Element just blew on my 907A knockoff handle. I've ordered a new one, but checked the voltage at the element and it's reading in as 30V AC. Is this enough to kill the element, it should be 24V right?
Cheers

Re: Cheap LED backlight replacements?
Thanks, thought this was the case. I'll get some strips ordered for the next time it inevitably goes kaput....

Cheap LED backlight replacements?
I have an LG 42LN540V that is blowing LEDs. Blew the first one at Christmas, didn't have a spare so just pulled it off and jumped with solder. This week it blew another one (different strip). I'm weighing up whether to replace all the strips as I suspect it's going to keep doing it.
I see complete replacement strip sets for £12 from Ebay. This seems way too cheap to be true to me. Does anyone have any experience with these? Am I better off buying a used OEM part?
Cheers
