Sony LMD-2110W LCD monitor shuts down when warm

I would very much appreciate any help or guidance with attempting to repair this Sony LMD-2110W LCD broadcast monitor.

It shuts down when warm after running around 20min or so. I can only get it to turn back on by physically removing the power cable for around 1 minute. It will then run for around 10min and powers down again.

Sometimes on a cold start, I can see a little flicker in the backlight in the bottom quarter of the screen.

If required I can remove individual boards to take pictures of the back of each board.

    pics attached.

Flickering and shutting down to heat sounds like a failing ccfl or failing connection where the wire joins the end of the ccfl.

Does the whole monitor shut down or just the backlight? (can you still see the image on the screen by shining a light on it) Have you checked any voltages on the G1 board plugs?
Like diff said, it sounds like a ccfl problem.

This is what I was afraid of. Would love to keep this monitor running if at all possible. Would it be possible to try and disconnect the bad ccfl and continue to run the monitor somehow?

Complete shutdown. No backlight and front green status light turns off. Can only cycle power back on by removing mains cable.

May need some help in checking the voltages in a safe manner. I'm quite a novice at testing live voltages. For example using the correct grounds.

The protection circuit will cause the inverter circuit to go into shutdown if it detects open connection to the CCFL, it only takes on bad lamp for the protection circuit to kick in.

Pls explain a little further do you mean trying the sdi and composite inputs instead of the hdmi? I am feeding the monitor with a compliant HDMI signal via a Blackmagic Mini Moniter Ultra via thunderbolt to HDMI 1080p at 50hz

                      Hi budm,

No arcing or ozone smell just a sudden shutdown.

Would it be possible to terminate the offending ccfl tube and trick the ps to still run the monitor?

Budm is there any work around that a novice like myself can apply to keep the monitor running ?

After close inspection of the inverter board, I do not see any error feedback pin on the inverter board to tell the monitor to go into shutdown due to error on the inverter board.
Please check the Voltages on that CN801 connector when it is working and when it goes into shutdown.
Also look at the bottom side of the inverter board around the inverter transformer to see if it has any sign of over heating.

Maybe check the underside of the boards for any cold/bad solder joints. Do the voltage checking first.

Not exactly sure what's wrong yet, you do have a multimeter yes? Do testing in post #13, testing example in second link in my signature below, don't be afraid, just be careful where you put the probes.

i used to have spare lamps to plug in for this sort of thing.

How about the Voltage readings at the inverter board connector when it is working and when it goes into shutdown?

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Hi community! Germany calling I am wondering if you guys can help me out. I have an issue with my Sony LED TV. I've been told this is a good place to ask. Thanks for anyone who will reply and offer advice. Appreciated!

I have a KD-65X9005A Sony 4k LED TV. For a few weeks I've got this problem where I turn on the TV and within a few seconds the TV starts getting darker until it shuts itself off and I get the 4 blinking error code. HOWEVER there is one exception: Whenever I switch to the i-Manual, a full screen on-screen instruction manual, the TV never turns off. I tested for hours!...

                                          Hello there, helpful forum people!

I am in the process of fixing an old (ca. 1990) Sony BVM1410PM CRT monitor and need some help. The PSU board of this monitor had failed and I had to replace quite a few capacitors and other parts but now - with my limited knowledge - I ran into a wall.

On the board there is a coil choke that has failed (tested with inductance meter) and I don´t know what to replace it with. According to the device´s service manual the part in question is a "Coil, Choke 525 uH (Sony P/N: 1-459-643-11)".

                                          The original part...

                                          Hello Badcaps Community,

I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.

The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...

                                          Hi Everyone

Lately I am experiencing the deja-vu incident on one of the led monitor like this.
                                          https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...lashing-on-off

The monitor is HP 27es LED Monitor

The monitor will randomly blackout and display no signal and will recover again.
Sometimes need to power and off again to restore the display but...
